Review: Smolder - Cassie Cole

Smolder Smolder by Cassie Cole
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Smoulder by Cassie Cole is a standalone reverse-harem style romance. Haley, Derek and Foxy are smokejumper’s who have just completed their training and are sent together to work together with a new team out in California where they come up against dangerous fires, a new team who doesn’t like them, a hot, new team leader and sabotage.

Haley is one of the only women who has become a smoke-jumper and she works hard to keep on top in a male dominated job. She’s strong willed and strong minded and knows her place in the world. She and Foxy have a good friendship before things start getting more serious and they start of as friends who sleep together. Foxy can’t deny the attraction, but as the less serious smoke-jumper, he is often overlooked as the sexy but jokester of the group. Derek has a past that has come with him into the smoke-jumping academy and on his new assignment. Believing that the Commander of the training facility has it in for him, he is determined to not start something with Haley that he can’t finish, although he can’t deny the attraction. The comes Trace, the new ‘leader’ of the group who is thrown in with the rookies and has to look after them, much to his displeasure.
What I really liked with this story is that we saw all of the characters as individuals who came together not only because of attraction but because of mutual respect for each other. I particularly liked Haley as she was a strong female character who owned her sexuality and wouldn’t apologise for it. The story-line was strong and showed you the work that smoke-jumpers have to do and how dangerous the job is.

There were a lot of twists and turns in this book which was enjoyable and because you knew who was causing the issues you were basically following the story along until he got his comeuppance. It was a really well written book with lots of steamy sexy scenes. It was certainly intriguing to see how the four of them would work and I liked the additional scenes at the end which showed you more of the relationships and didn’t just put a bow around it
.
If you like your harem’s hot and sexy, then Cassie Cole is an author for you!
