Review: Broken Crown - Rachel Van Dyken

Broken Crown Broken Crown by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Broken Crown by Rachel Van Dyken is the final instalment of the Mafia Royals series and focuses on the characters King and Del. The premise of the book looks at what you would do for your family, what would you give up for someone who doesn’t love you like you love them and can love truly be selfless?

King has a reputation for being a ladies’ man, but when he meets Del, that all changes and he literally is a changed man whose sole focus is on her to make her his Queen, but things don’t go to plan, and it is soon clear how messy their story is going to be. Throughout the book we follow along with King’s agony as things go from bad to worse and he has to make decisions for the ‘family’ which may ultimately get him killed.

Del fits King, but it isn’t an easy road for her either as she is placed between two men who make her heartbeat in very different ways. She may love another man, but the feelings she feels for King are something indescribable. The push and pull between the two characters was heart-breaking at times and also influenced a lot by the drama that was going on around them.

This is definitely not a light story and although we see other characters from previous books and series, they are more on the outer this time then in other books but still have some life lessons to share with both King and Del. It is definitely a rollercoaster of a book with emotions, violence and twists that are going to leave you breathless. A must read for any mafia genre fan!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Doc - K.L. Savage

Doc Doc by K.L. Savage
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Doc by K.L. Savage is book 7 in the Ruthless Kings MC series and boy is it full of action and drama! We finally get Doc’s story, and it opens with a bang, and we’re just thrown into the story of Doc and Joanna. Doc has always had feelings for Joanna since she was rescued by the Ruthless Kings MC, but wanting to let her grow, face her own trauma and his own demons, he stepped back as he already has a lot on his own plate, but a call one day changes everything and he may be the only lifeline that can keep Jo alive.

Jo has been through her own trauma and is still living with her demons. Her lifeline is Doc, but she feels like she is severing that as she needs too much help and doesn’t see her own self-worth. When she takes matters into her own hands, she doesn’t know that the Ruthless Kings are going to rally around her to keep her alive and that Doc is finally going to stake his claim!

This book had a lot of drama going on within it, not only with the MC itself but also with Doc and Joanna as we’re thrust into their past and present and how hard it is to live with mental illness on a daily basis. Jo is a fighter, and it is only through her constant daily battle and the help of the MC and helping Doc to overcome some of his demons that we start to see her heal. The same can be said for Doc who just feels like a character who is going through the motions because of everything that life has thrown at him. The relationship he has with his mum is both beautiful and heart-breaking (no spoilers!)

Of course, this book may not be for everyone due to it’s triggers and it is quite a dark read with a serious subject matter. The characters both primary and secondary in this book are really good and you want to read everyone’s story to see what made them how they are. It is a gritty and violent read but well worth the dive into it! I can’t wait to read more in this series.

Review: Frisked by You - Nikki Mays

Frisked by You Frisked by You by Nikki Mays
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Frisked by You is book 6 in the SAPD SWAT series by Nikki May and it is quite hilarious and sweet! Frisked by you tells the story of Declan and Aimee. Declan ends up in the hospital one night due to his job and no other than Aimee is his nurse, to say that he made a fool of himself is an understatement, but it was still hilarious, especially since it was recorded by his work colleagues who like nothing more than to joke with each other. Declan can’t forget the wonderful nurse who treat him and takes on a little bit of his brother Damon and decided to try and persuade Aimee ‘stalk’ her into taking a chance on him.

Aimee has been burned before so she is reluctant to get into another relationship, especially with a man who doesn’t suffer from an ego and has washboard abs! But her friends aren’t going to let her fear hold her back. When her friend is attacked, Declan and the rest of him buddies’ step in to find out who did it, which only helps to plant him more firmly into Aimee’s heart.

I loved the banter between the characters in this book which made the seriousness of part of the story a little lighter but no less page turning. Declan and Aimee just work; Aimee for her snarkiness and Declan for his jokes and helping Aimee not to take herself so seriously. The camaraderie between Declan and his work brothers is strong and hilarious as are the relationships between their wives. Aimee definitely fits right into the group with her tequila drinking!

If you’re looking for a feel good, sexy read with some great characters then this series as a whole is one for you!

Review: Joker - Andi Rhodes & Nicole Cypher

Joker Joker by Andi Rhodes
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Joker is book two in the Soulless Kings series by Andi Rhodes and Nicole Cypher. The book focuses on Joker and Riley. We met Joker in the previous book, he is a hard man, who doesn’t trust women at all (why would he with his history). When he meets Riley, he has an instant attraction to her but knows that she is hiding secrets that could possibly put his brothers/family in danger. To make matters worse, his mother has also turned up again and opened a bag of worms that Joker isn’t ready to face.

Riley is scared and she has nowhere to turn other than to the Soulless Kings for help. What starts off as a white lie puts her on Joker’s radar and they have a lot of arguments due to her lack of honesty, something which is integral to Joker. But when the truth comes to light, Joker will do anything in his power to help the strong yet vulnerable woman, which in turn will help him slay his own demons in the process.

I really liked that Riley was a tough woman in the world of boxing and she did what she thought was right to protect her friends. She puts up with a lot from Joker and his mean ways but she calls him out on it. Even though she is slow in trusting him, she knows that he is broken too and she sees that first hand when his mother turns up out of the blue.

Not everything was roses for this couple and there are times where Joker can be quite brutal but as he gets closer to Riley we see a more human side to him, especially when he tells his brothers what happened to him when he was a child. This is definitely a gritty MC series with lots of actions, honesty, violence and some very hot sexy times. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Review: Cross - Lena Bourne

Cross Cross by Lena Bourne
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Cross by Lena Bourne is book one in the Devil’s Nightmare MC series with lots of steam and suspense. The story is about Cross a complicated man and President of a 1% MC. He is a hard man to like but is trying (as best as he can) to raise his daughter Lily, look after his MC and trying to keep his distance from his daughter’s school counsellor Roxie.

Roxie has had her own hardships after losing her father and brother in violent circumstances. IN a new town and trying to help students in her care, she comes across Lily who has seen her own type of violence and experienced her own abandonment. Roxie has Lily’s best interest at heart and goes head-to-head with Cross to make sure the young girl gets everything she needs. But she finds herself falling for Cross even though being thrust back into the MC fold is not what she wants. What starts off as just having a good time becomes something more with Cross, but both of them have to meet in the middle which seems to be something neither of them can do, causing angst and hurt feelings along the way.

There was a lot going on in this story with both main characters and also with Lily (whose own story gets a little bit lost further along in the story). Cross is a hard man to lie but he does show some vulnerability when it comes to Roxie and what she has been through. Roxie’s own story was intriguing as were the twist and turns regarding it towards the latter part of the book.

This book had a lot of steam, suspense and some good characters and also helped to set up the next story in the series. It will be interesting to read what is going to happen to the Devil’s Nightmare MC next and who is going to be on the next ride!

Review: Fender - Andi Rhodes & Nicole Cypher

Fender Fender by Andi Rhodes
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Fender is book one in the Soulless Kings MC series by Andi Rhodes and Nicole Cypher. The book focuses on Fender and Charlie who have a history which turned violent and chaotic one night which ended in Charlie running for her life and Fender trying to pick up the pieces of his life after the murder of his parents and the destruction of his MC. Not knowing Charlie’s motives and thinking she had something to do with all the carnage, he believes his MC brothers when they say she was involved. Charlie coming back into the picture years later makes for the perfect time for revenge, but not everything is what it seems, if only Fender could believe what Charlie says.

This was a good book, it had moments of being dark and gritty especially from the side of Charlie who is fighting to clear her name every chance she can get. Fender can sometimes be harsh with Charlie and tends to believe what his MC brothers say without really any proof which was frustrating at points, especially when he had such big feelings for her and knew that she belonged to another MC.

The story develops as we see Charlie trying to make piece with that night as well as fight her attraction for Fender ( who she’s never forgot), try to heal past hurts with the rest of her family and stay off the Soulless Kings radar as she is always going to be guilty in their eyes until the proof is thrust upon them. Charlie was definitely the stronger character in the book with her bike riding ways and saying what she thought, and it will be interesting to see if she pops up in future books. Overall, a good start to a new series.

Review: Justice for You - Nikki Mays

Justice for You Justice for You by Nikki Mays
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Justice for You by Nikki Mays is book 5 in the SAPD SWAT series and is about the characters Rocco and Lavender. Rocco and Lavender lived by the adage of what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. With Lavender now trying to stay away from Rocco due to continuously getting tongue tied when she is around him, she is trying to move on and not think about the sinfully sexy policeman that gives her butterflies…trying to be the main word. Rocco isn’t going to go down without a fight though, he finds the sweet and sexy schoolteacher alluring and wants her for his own and he is willing to play a little dirty to get what he wants. If only things were as simple as that!

This was a sweet story and easy read. Not only do we have Rocco and Lavender working on their relationship as life throws them a curve ball, but we also have other characters from the series popping in and at times they are hilarious and snarky and really do help (and sometimes hinder) Rocco and Lavender’s relationship. Lavender did change a little throughout the book and became more outspoken, but sometimes it felt like all she did was grumble at Rocco throughout parts of the book which kind of took the shine off her for me as a reader. Rocco was a sweet and sexy character who tried in every way to make Lavender come out of her shell.

With a vindictive ex, life throwing a curveball and family getting in the way, this was a sweet read and a good addition to the series as a whole.

Review: Bones - Lily J. Adams

Bones Bones by Lily J. Adams
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Bones by Lily J. Adams is book one in the Rebel Saints MC series. The book focuses on Bones, the President of the Rebel Saints MC and Harper a manager of a casino which is seeing issues crop up and two MC go into battle with each other. Bones has an instant attraction to Harper but isn’t looking for anything serous (which he tells her from the start). As their relationship develops and things start to get a bit more serious, emotions become confusing for both of the characters and that’s when their relationship becomes a bit more difficult.

This was a good start to a new series. We see a lot of Bones and get quite a comprehensive background to his MC. It is slightly different for a 1% club and not as gritty as some other MC stories out there, but still enjoyable. If only Bones wasn’t so rigid. I do like that he brings out a bit of a spark in Harper whose main focus for a long time is on her job (mainly due to how she was brought up).

The scenes between characters are hot and we get a front row seat to the developing emotions of their relationship. The story also has a little bit of action which keeps it flowing and it will be interesting to see how the series develops in the next book. Overall, an enjoyable read!

BLURB

I had her and loved the taste of her.
But she’s too young, too sweet and good.
But I’ll keep her safe, and I want her happy.
Even if my own heart tells me I’m a fool for not making her mine.

Our one night is electric. She left her mark and burned her goodness into my heart.

There’s no room left for anyone else, only her.
I can’t chase her. I have to let her go.
Sure, she’s a club girl and I could have her under me whenever I want, but I can’t do that to her. I refuse to pull her any deeper into the Diamond MC.

When that decision is taken out of my hands and she’s dragged into the darkness, all I see is rage and bloodshed.

I’ll make them pay. Every single one of them who thought they could steal her away, take her from me.

She’s everything.

And once I have her back, I’ll make sure I never let go.

She’s light and goodness.

Maybe she’s too good for me, but maybe she’s just what I need to balance my world.

I’ll give her everything and make her mine.

And just maybe she’ll make me hers too.

EXCERPT

From the corner of the room, I watched as Country flirted with his new woman of the week, Rochelle. To me, it sounded like she was related to a roach. I hated her even before I met her. Pathetic, right? It wasn’t like I was in love with Country. We’d slept together a couple of times, one before and then after his breakup with a different girl. Isla. Both of us had been a little tipsy each time.

So why can’t you get him off your mind?

Shut up, stupid brain.

I didn’t know why my eyes sought him out whenever I entered the compound. Or why my belly clenched when I caught other club ladies flirting with him, or why my heart turned into a wildly buzzing vibrator whenever he smiled or winked at me.

All right, I did know, but I wasn’t going to let my little crush stick.

Not when I could save myself from hurt, since I knew, and I definitely knew, he was a player. He liked younger women, which I was, right along with a heap of other club girls.

I could have pussy punched myself for joining as a club girl when I didn’t even need to. I didn’t have bad parents. I didn’t have someone to hide from or someone after me, as far as I knew. So why did I join? Because I wanted something different and exciting in my life, and when I’d first applied to become one of the club women in the Diamond MC where I wouldn’t sleep with anyone outside of the club they promised I wouldn’t have to have sex with every member. could pick. That was two years ago, when I was a lot more nervous and shy, and the only member I had slept with was Country.

Review: Prodigal Son - Jay Crownover

Prodigal Son Prodigal Son by Jay Crownover
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Prodigal Son by Jay Crownover is book 2 in The Forever Marked series and focuses on the characters Hyde and Remy. Remy has always loved Hyde, mostly obsessively and her world centres around him, that is until he lets her down in the worst way and she doesn’t see him again for many years. Fast forward some time and they are both put onto each other radars again and a lot has changed for both of them. Remy is coming to terms with being an adult and taking control of her life and Hyde is thrown into the deep end and is learning to float, this time though, he may need Remy more than she needs him!

This was a very enjoyable, emotional read which had a lot going on, not only with the main characters but also secondary characters too. Remy and Hyde’s relationship is complicated, often messy and certain shines a light on what it is like living with a mental illness 24/7 and how that can be perceived by other people.

There is a lot of love going on in this book and a lot of different types of love, from young to obsessive to a more mature love but it all ties together beautifully to give us Hyde and Remy’s story which at times is emotionally hard to read but makes you want to continue to turn the pages to see what happens.

Please read the triggers by the author before going into this book as it may not be to everyone’s liking. Overall, for me, it was a great read and nice to see previous characters as well as following Remy and Hyde’s journey to finding their own happiness, regardless of the hardships and obstacles placed in their way!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Throttle's Seduction - Chiah Wilder

Throttle's Seduction Throttle's Seduction by Chiah Wilder
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Throttle’s Seduction is book 7 in the Insurgent’s MC series by Chiah Wilder. The book focuses on the characters Throttle, the Road Captain of the Insurgents MC and Kimber a feisty mechanic that knows her own mind. There is definitely an instant attraction between the two, but when Throttle opens his mouth, his chauvinistic side seems to come out instantaneously which puts up Kimber’s back!

There is a lot of too and fro in the book, especially with how Throttle feels and at times he is quite negative about Kimber’s job as well as women in general which gets a little bit repetitive. Knowing that Kimber doesn’t know how the MC works and get treat horribly for asking questions and sticking up for herself was at time uncomfortable and it felt like it took a little while for the characters to get into their groove in comparison to previous books in the series.

There is still a lot of chemistry, sexy scenes and scenes between other members of the MC in this book and it hasn’t put me off reading any more of the series. This one just wasn’t one of my favourites!

Review: Shaker - Teagan Brooks

Shaker Shaker by Teagan Brooks
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Shaker by Teagan Brooks is book 5 in the Blackwings MC series. The story focuses on the characters Shaker and Keegan. Shaker has had a lot happen to him in his life which has made him very weary of women, often making him come across as cold and rude. That is until Keegan enters his life, he can’t put his finger on what it is that attracts him to her, but he knows that she has her won secrets and he is reluctant to start anything with her in the long term.

Keegan has had a difficult life, having lost her mother and being under the thumb of her abusive stepfather to try and keep her sister safe. She isn’t expecting Shaker or his high-handedness. When truths come to light about Shaker, she is ultimately fighting her attraction for him whilst trying to keep off the radar of her stepfather who has some deadly plans for her.

This was a wonderfully written book with two great characters. I enjoyed reading about the attraction Keegan and Shaker had for each other as well as how Shaker balanced his life both with the MC and with his background of coming from money. Sometimes he didn’t always communicate what he was thinking which caused some issues in the relationship, but I liked how Keegan kept trying to pull the truth out of him as well as trying to maintain her independence in a difficult situation.

This is a great series which has everything you need in an MC book; sexy scenes, some suspense, great characters and some really great storylines. I cant wait to read more from this author!

Review: Obsidian Star: Hook & Tinkerbell Retelling - AJ Wolf

Obsidian Star: Hook & Tinkerbell Retelling Obsidian Star: Hook & Tinkerbell Retelling by A.J. Wolf
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Obsidian Star by AJ Wolf is a dark retelling of Peter Pan but from the point of view of Hook and Tinkerbell. Bellamy (Tink) is a snarky young woman caught up as collateral damage and given to the deliciously dark Hook as payment for a debt that cannot be paid. What ensues is a dark story about giving up control and how sometimes a villain is just a villain.

The chemistry between Hook and Tink was great throughout the story, and I loved the fact that Tink doesn’t really love Hook but loves the power that he wields, even when he makes her own body betray her! Tink is definitely a strong woman and when she goes head-to-head with Hook the results are explosive.

I loved that the book was a retelling and not in the traditional sense. We see Peter as this snivelling, nasty young man who doesn’t take any responsibility and causes a lot of issues for Tink without any apology for it! When Tink comes to her senses about him, it is quite liberating!

This book definitely has a lot of triggers for some readers and may not be for everyone! Overall, a great retelling with some kink, bloodshed and strong characters!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Blurb:

When she was a little girl, Remy Archer fell in love with Hyde Fuller at first sight. In fact, he was the only thing she could see for a very long time. For Remy, it never mattered to her that Hyde was always too serious and always seemed so sad. To her, he was the very best, and the center of her entire world. She never dreamed he would let her down when she needed him the most.

Now Remy is a semi-reasonable adult, one with a better understanding of why her intense feelings scared Hyde away when she was at her lowest point. She’s moved on, and if anyone asks she's perfectly happy with the chaotic and hectic life she's built. She’s also really proud that she's still around to experience all the best and worst that surviving something deeply traumatic has to offer. The last thing she needs or wants, is Hyde coming back and taking over her every thought and feeling the way he once did. Unfortunately, they picked the exact same time to come home to search for a little redemption.

When he was a little boy, the instant they met, Hyde Fuller wanted nothing more than to protect Remy Archer from everything, including herself. She gleefully took up every moment of his free time, and every ounce of his patience, as they grew alongside one another. He was so intent on keeping her safe, he didn't realize how deeply Remy had worked her way into his heart.

Now that Hyde’s facing the biggest challenge and biggest change of his entire life, he deeply regrets walking away from Remy. She was always the one person who always had his back, no matter what. The way Remy loved him used to terrify him, but now, it’s the way he loves her that scares him to death.

Hyde knows he needs Remy in his life, so he can finally figure out how to be the man she always believed him to be. History has a bad habit of repeating itself, and Remy has a knack for turning even the most simple of situations end over end. This time Hyde is determined to stay by her side no matter what, even though his love for Remy is going to change more than his life this time around.

Review: Night Rebels Motorcycle Club Series (Books 1 - 4): Night Rebels MC Romance Box Set - Chiah Wilder

Night Rebels Motorcycle Club Series (Books 1 - 4): Night Rebels MC Romance Box Set Night Rebels Motorcycle Club Series (Books 1 - 4): Night Rebels MC Romance Box Set by Chiah Wilder
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Night Rebels Motorcycle Club series (Book 1-4) by Chiah Wilder is explosive. There are four books in this collection; Steel, Diablo, Muerto and Goldie and each book can be read as a standalone. The books are gritty and at times raw and centre on the Night Rebels Motorcycle Club a 1% club that literally takes no prisoners. The men rule with an iron fist, work hard and party harder! I enjoyed reading each individual story and what happens with each character as they meet their own ‘old lady’. As with most MC books nothing comes easy and with the rough edges of the men and the oftentimes independent women, its not hard to see why there is sometimes conflict.

Scenes between the main characters are hot in this book set, as in light the pages on fire hot! As a reader, you’re definitely thrown into the heart of the MC and what they will do for redemption, to save the woman they love and most especially for the club! The stories do have a lot of suspense going on in them as well as some drama which make this series a page turner!

If you like your stories action-packed, with hot-blooded men who don’t apologise and the women who tame them, then this is the series for you. A really good read!

Review: Dark Ties - Jamie Begley & Sarah Brianne

Dark Ties Dark Ties by Jamie Begley
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Dark Ties is an interwoven duet by mother and daughter duo Jamie Begley and Sarah Brianne. The book tells two different stories, one of Dante Caruso and Desmond Beck.

Dante Caruso’s story can be seen as book 9 in the Made Men series and focuses on Dante Caruso (father of Lucca, Nero, Maria and Leo). We see a more human side of Dante as he meets a new woman who although can sometimes be intimidated by him, also gives him some things to think about as well as trying to get him to see past the trauma of losing his wife and think about what he has now. It was nice seeing Dante in a different light and a bit more reflective. I would have liked a longer story, but I always feel that was about Ms. Brianne’s writing. I can’t wait to see who is next in the line up!

Desmond Beck’s story was also good. I hadn’t read previous books my Ms. Begley so I don’t know if that would make a difference on knowing Desmond a bit better and more about his background. This story was quite fast paced, and Desmond and Hailey try and figure out their relationship and how everyone was interconnected. Hailey was a bit of a nerd a suited Desmond well and also had her own issues which made her more relatable.

Overall, two good stories in the Mafia genre with some sexy scenes, some intrigue and some vulnerability.

Review: Girl Island - Kate Castle

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

This is my 1st Kate Castle book and OMG – loved it so much, that I read it in a day!  Loved the characters and all their flaws!  The premise of Mean Girls + Lord of the Flies + lost & found teenage f/f love = thrills, adventure & human spirit.  The author sucks you in with some great character development that I think most girls/women can relate to, no matter which crowd you fit into.  Ellery is the odd one out when she earns a scholarship to attend a prestigious school, thanks to her sporting abilities.  Before she even gets to school, she has to attend a special training/bonding session with other athletes from this new school.  All hell breaks loose when their overweight pilot has a heart attack and dies mid-flight.  This is when the s%*t gets real, and the kids take control of the float plane and somewhat land it near a deserted island.  Dawkes and Ellery create a bond before take-off and Ellery & Skye have a history you just can’t put your finger on why it all fell apart!  Then there are the 2 boys, their teacher and the ‘it/mean girls’.  Survival is key and things all start off rosy until it isn’t – when they realise that help isn’t coming as soon as they hoped; lines are drawn between the remaining 6 girls.  This was a thrilling quick read that pulls you in, my only grievance is that the ending happened, and I was left not wanting the story to end just yet.

ARC received from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Highly recommend – totally enjoyed reading Girl Island and will be checking out more by Kate Castle.

Review: Holding On - L. Wilder

Holding On Holding On by L. Wilder
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Holding on by L. Wilder is a slow burn romance and part of the Ruthless Sinners MC. This story focuses on the characters Shotgun and Remington. Remington and Shotgun have an instant attraction when they meet one night, but their acquaintance with each other is fleeting when Shotgun, the Enforcer of the Ruthless Sinners MC is called away to deal with a problem. Thinking he will never see her again; he is surprised when he finds the same woman fighting for her life in a dumpster.

Remington is in the wrong place at the wrong time and finds herself in a life and death situation, forcing her to stay with the Ruthless Sinners MC until she is healed, she again comes across the man who she had an instant attraction too. But he is a hard but to crack and with her life on the line, she will need to put her trust in him, no matter the secrets that he holds.

Shotgun and Remington’s relationship is a slow burn. There is a lot going on in the story; we learn about the stoic Shotgun’s past and what has made him the way he has. What has led to Remington being beaten as well as what the MC are going to have to do to survive attacks, backstabbers and being on the police’s radar.

There was a lot of emotion in this book, especially from Shotgun and how he felt not only about Remington, but also about his past. Like any good MC, there is also a lot of actions, moments with family and some sexy times between the two main characters. Overall, this was a good read, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has to bring.
