Heated Rivalry by Rachel ReidMy rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars!
The story focuses on arch-rivals Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, to ice hockey players that start off on opposite teams and are kind of pitted against each other throughout the whole book, their rivalry becomes legendary on the ice but it is behind the scenes that things start to change for the two of them when they both realise that they have feelings for one another that develops from something fun, into something more. But as with a true angst book, this isn’t all plain sailing, especially within the sport that they are, and we see they characters trying to balance their personal and professional lives whilst they keep their love affair from everyone.
This book is just full of personal struggles. We have Shane on one hand, the good Canadian boy who likes perfection, comes from a good family. He’s excellent at the sport he plays and things seem to come easy to him. Whilst on the reverse side of that we have Ilya, cocky, self-assured, but fighting his own demons from his past and his family which we see throughout the book. We also see that it is a facade he puts on and it is only through his developing relationship with Shane that we see his vulnerability. Both characters struggle with who they love throughout the book and then there is sort of a turning point for both of them, but this story is complex and at times it hurts to see them go through what they are going through and have to hide who they are.
This book is certainly sexy and there are a lot of scenes with Shane and Ilya together which are just page melting! They have such a great yet complex relationship throughout the whole story that you’re rooting for them to get their happy ever after. This series is addictive, and you don’t necessarily have to read them in order which is great. Overall, an amazing and enjoyable MM, ice-hockey book that I couldn't put down!
