Review: The Long Game - Rachel Reid

The Long Game The Long Game by Rachel Reid
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The Long Game by Rachel Reid is book 6 of the Game Changers series and this is the second book to feature Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov and the progression of their relationship. Having been together for over 10 years, it seems that their relationship is still top secret, especially more so from Shane’s end, who seems to be struggling with coming out and what that would mean for his NHL career. On the other side we have Ilya who is equally scared by ready to announce to the world that he loves Shane but is also battling his own demons.

We’re thrown into the thick of the story as we see through both characters eyes what they say to each other and what isn't being said which often leads to conflict between the two. You really see the struggle that Ilya is going through at times and how vulnerable he becomes (compared to when he pops up in other stories).

The spicy scenes between the two are still equally hot and interspersed throughout the story, but there is also the added bonus of the love shared between the two characters which gives this book a chef’s kiss from me. We are definitely immersed in the struggle to come out, either when you’re not ready, you're scared or you don't know how it is going to affect your future. There are some hard moments to read in this book due to the topic of sexuality and coming out which will resonate with anyone who has ever had to do it, but the author (I think), has done it in a really good, emotional way which pulls on your heartstrings.

Although I do love Shane (because who doesn't love his OCD tendencies), I do have to say that I have a soft spot for Ilya, especially in this book where we see more of a soft side to him rather than always being the dominating Captain.

Overall, if you like hockey, some very steamy scenes and some great characters, then this is going to be a great addition to your e-reader of choice! Now, onto the next one!

Review: Forget That Guy - Lani Lynn Vale

Forget That Guy Forget That Guy by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Forget That Guy by Lani Lynn Vale is book 5 in the Don’t Date Him Series and focuses on the characters Denver and Holly. Holly is struggling to make ends meet, especially after the death of her father and the reading of his will which has left her with nothing, or so she thinks. Throw in a mother who treats her like rubbish and not very much going her way. When circumstances means that she ends up sharing space with Denver and his girls, she starts to see a side of him that she hasn't before and there might be more to her losing everything than she thinks.

Denver is one of those rugged, handsome family men who just get the job done. Looking after his two young daughters and working on the farm from sunup to sundown, he doesn't have much down time himself. Throw into the mix Holly, what her father left him and a crazy ex-wife and life for Denver is just complicated.

The chemistry between the two characters is great in this book. It starts with a slow burn until it becomes a simmer to a white-hot flame.

Like all of the books in this series, this one is an easy read with some really good characters and a good storyline which develops more as the characters relationship develops. You don’t necessarily have to have read previous books in the series to understand what's happening in this one, but it is always good fun if you do.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own.

My favorite principle in landscaping and in transition. In life? Not so much.

I can’t stand change when it comes to my life. I was married to the same woman since I was in my early twenties and now I’m just supposed to move on from being married to being single. Sharing custody of our daughter.

Transition works for landscaping. It’s the easiest thing for me. Making sure there’s a natural flow in everything we do.

But that works because it’s gradual.

This feels so abrupt, it’s jarring. I don’t know how to make this change.

I’m not sure that I want to.

I like my routine. I love being in my house, working from home and I realize that most think I’m weird.I couldn’t really care less what other people think.

But when I hire Oakley’s Crew to build a new greenhouse, I feel things starting to shift. Like it’s possible that maybe the way I’ve been living my life for the last three years isn’t as satisfying as I’d like to think.

Maybe it is time for a change.

Maybe it will be worth it for…him.

Karen Renee is the author of the Riot Motorcycle Club, Beta, and O-Town series of books. She once crunched Nielsen ratings data but these days she brings her imagination to life by writing books. She has wanted to be a writer since she was very young, but it's taken the last twenty plus years for her to amass enough courage and overall life experience to bring that dream to life. Some of those life experiences came from the wonderful world of advertising, banking, and local television media research. She is a proud wife and mother, and a Jacksonville native. When she's not at the soccer field or cooking, you can find her at her local library, the grocery store, in her car jamming out to some tunes, or hibernating while she writes and/or reads books.

Review: Heated Rivalry - Rachel Reid

Heated Rivalry Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars!

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid is book 2 in the Game Changer series and boy does it have everything I need in a book; angst, steamy scenes, drama, unbelievably hot characters and much more. I can't believe that it has taken me this long to jump headfirst into this book.....also note I have not seen the tv series yet!

The story focuses on arch-rivals Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, to ice hockey players that start off on opposite teams and are kind of pitted against each other throughout the whole book, their rivalry becomes legendary on the ice but it is behind the scenes that things start to change for the two of them when they both realise that they have feelings for one another that develops from something fun, into something more. But as with a true angst book, this isn’t all plain sailing, especially within the sport that they are, and we see they characters trying to balance their personal and professional lives whilst they keep their love affair from everyone.

This book is just full of personal struggles. We have Shane on one hand, the good Canadian boy who likes perfection, comes from a good family. He’s excellent at the sport he plays and things seem to come easy to him. Whilst on the reverse side of that we have Ilya, cocky, self-assured, but fighting his own demons from his past and his family which we see throughout the book. We also see that it is a facade he puts on and it is only through his developing relationship with Shane that we see his vulnerability. Both characters struggle with who they love throughout the book and then there is sort of a turning point for both of them, but this story is complex and at times it hurts to see them go through what they are going through and have to hide who they are.

This book is certainly sexy and there are a lot of scenes with Shane and Ilya together which are just page melting! They have such a great yet complex relationship throughout the whole story that you’re rooting for them to get their happy ever after. This series is addictive, and you don’t necessarily have to read them in order which is great. Overall, an amazing and enjoyable MM, ice-hockey book that I couldn't put down!
