Review: Role Model - Rachel Reid

Role Model Role Model by Rachel Reid
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars!

Role Model by Rachel Reid is book 5 in the Game Changers series and my first introduction to this steamy hockey world. The story focuses on the characters Troy Barrett and Harris Drover. Troy has been traded after saying his piece to his one time best friend, which has caused him to be outed by his previous team and fans and literally thrown to a team not doing very well in the league but who support each other through a variety of crises and celebrations….also Ilya Rozanov is there and what a great captain he is!

Troy may not have been the best person in his last team, but he is trying to make up for that as well as being honest with himself on his sexuality and what that may mean for his career as well as his family whilst trying to keep it all a secret and to say that he is at bursting point is an understatement.

Enter Harris, the team’s social media guru. A sweet, loud, teddy bear of a guy who sees through Troy’s vulnerability and standoffishness straight away. Harris is attracted to Troy straight away and wants to help Troy with the demons he carries. The guy is just sweetness personified and I loved him instantly. He is smooth compared to Troy’s rough edges and just has a great vibe about him. Also, his dog Chiron…..cuteness! The chemistry between the two of them is just hot and definitely makes the pages steamy!

I loved the slow burn, sexiness of this story, throw in some hockey, team camaraderie and politics and you’ve got this amazing series of really great characters. There are also some serious elements of the book such as talking about sexual assault, views on that, sexuality as well as the mental toll that life can take when people aren’t allowed to be themselves (I could talk a lot about that one!) which changes this book from a romance to something a little bit more serious.

Its not often that I give a 5 star for a book, but this one just did it for me. I can quite happily put my hands up and say I could have ignored everyone in my household to finish this book, that’s how engaging it was. Now onto the next one!

Review: Break Inside - Karen Renee

Break Inside Break Inside by Karen Renee
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Break Inside by Karen Renee is part of the Riot MC Next Generation series and focuses on the characters Ryan ‘Nickel’ and Ivy. All Ivy wants to do is find her sperm donor, but when she does Ryan and his two siblings are standing in her way. When Ivy gets into a spot of bother, it is Ryan that literally stands in the way of a gunman to save her, even though it means being taken himself. Thus, starting the slow burn romance between the two as they try to survive a gunman and threats not only to themselves but also other members of the MC.

This book starts straight in with the action and although we get a little bit of backstory, this series is very much focused on the new generation with other characters popping up now and again. I liked the sass that Ivy gave Ryan. Yes, she thought her was cute, but she wasn’t going to put up with his nonsense either, especially when at the start he certainly got it all wrong on why Ivy was looking for her ‘father’.

Both characters fight the feelings they have for each other from the get go and don’t want to get into a relationship, but low and behold, that is exactly what they get into, and they’re totally meant to be together. Ryan is a protector trying to look after a woman who can protect herself, and Ivy smooths some of Ryan’s rough edges.

I liked that this story didn’t have any relationship angst and it was more focused on the action and attention that outsiders were trying to throw at them.

I would definitely read the previous books in this series as well as the series before just to get your head around characters and things that may be going on with them and the MC. But, if you love strong characters and a great storyline, you’re going to want to read this book!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

BLURB

I blame getting pregnant on my sister getting mauled by a bear.

If she hadn’t been attacked that day, I wouldn’t have come home to check on her. I wouldn’t have run into Boone Windsor at that bar. I wouldn’t have gone home with him, ready to drown my sorrows in a different, more satisfying way.

I wouldn’t have given him that second chance.

Not after he’d so badly burned the first chance.

I would’ve gone back to work half the country away, and I would’ve kept my head in the sand where Boone was involved.
But my sister did get attacked. I did give Boone a second chance.

And I almost died because of it.

After my memories are lost in an accident that almost takes both of our lives, Boone makes me fall in love with him all over again.

And since I didn’t know all the hell that awaited me, I didn’t guard my heart.

I fell, and fell, and fell until there was nowhere else to go but down.

Then, when those memories come back and I’m faced with the consequences of my actions, I didn’t falter.

I knew he was hell, yet I chose to burn with him anyway.

Review: Be The Full Problem - Be The Full Problem

Be The Full Problem Be The Full Problem by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Be The Full Problem by Lani Lynn Vale is book 4 in the “Don’t Date Him’ series and focuses on Boone and Nettie and boy is it a story filled with angst and drama. If you have read previous books, you are going to have a little bit of a backstory on the two and the love/hate, push pull that they both have for each other. But when you delve into this book, you are going to get more of the backstory on how they ended up where they did and how the drama continues from there, especially when Nettie finds out that her life is going to change forever…again.

This story had all the feels and although Boone and Nettie are perfect for each other, their love seems to be challenged at every stop, especially by Boone’s psycho mother and his sister (lots of drama there!) and the drama that they bring is full on and vindictive at points. At times this book is going to make you tear up with just how sad it is and also tear up just because it is such a lovely book to read!
