Review: Wreck & Ruin - Emma Slate

Wreck & Ruin Wreck & Ruin by Emma Slate
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Wreck and Ruin is a beautifully written MC book with some amazing characters. It is the first book in the Blue Angels Motorcycle Club series by Emma Slate. It tells the story of  Mia and Colt. Mia’s life has been full of tragic events and basically, she is just living moment to moment as she works in a bar where she witnesses her boss do something shady with another local MC (The Iron Horsemen). To make matters worse, the President of that club, Dev has Mia firmly in his sights. Not only does he believe she knows things about his deal with her boss, but he is also slightly obsessed with her.

The whole situation puts Mia on edge, and she chooses to run, only to get caught up in some dangerous situations. Hence, then meeting up with Colt, who is the President of the rival club, the Blue Angels. From there we follow Mia and her developing relationship with Colt and others as she tries to open her heart and learn that family isn’t always blood.

This was an amazingly written book. Not only do we have an intriguing and fast paced story. We also have the development between Colt and Mia, which is hot at the best of times. Mia is a solid character who has been hurt in the past and is trying to come up against the amazing character of Colt who is deep, strong and just gets where Mia is coming from. He asks the difficult questions of her and also wants her to be his equal (even when there are times when their relationship is complicated due to the women not knowing what goes on behind the scenes in an MC).

There was also so many other great characters introduced in this story and you see how the Blue Angels are a family. The story is just packed with so much good stuff, it was hard to put it down, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Be warned, there are moments in this book that are going to rip at your heartstrings! One of the best MC books that I’ve read in a while.

Review: Home Game - Lisa Suzanne

Home Game Home Game by Lisa Suzanne
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Home Game is book one in the Vegas Aces series by Lisa Suzanne. The book follows the story of Ellie and Luke. Ellie isn’t having a great week, not only is she fired from her job, but also dumped by her boyfriend. Ellie’s brother persuades her to head to Las Vegas, not just for his wedding, but to make it a permanent move. Whilst out with some girlfriends she meets the sexiest man she has ever seen and of course the rest is history! Only kidding…nothing goes to plan, and after a night of sexy times with her mysterious man, she’s a little disappointed when he leaves without saying anything, only to turn up at her brothers wedding….as his best man!

This was definitely a fast paced, fun read for me. Ellie is one of those instantly likeable characters, where lots of things seem to happen to her (almost like a Bridget Jonesesque character) and Luke is an insta-hot man who is completely different from Ellie. Their chemistry might be red hot, but it doesn’t seem as though their relationship is going to be plain sailing either! Also, be warned there is a cliff-hanger!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Finding Peace - Dawn Lockhart

Finding Peace Finding Peace by Dawn Lockhart
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Finding Peace by Dawn Lockhart is a romantic suspense story that focuses on the characters Allie and Luke. Allie and Luke have an instant connection to each other, but one of the doesn’t do commitment and the other has scars from a previous relationship. But this isn’t the only dilemma, both are thrown together to catch a serial killer, before he catches them!

Allie and Luke have an instant attraction with a super steamy connection. At times Luke was really rigid in his stance of not having a commitment with someone, but he just can’t seem to escape his ‘angel’ who is strong, smart and sassy. Do note that there are times where his bullheadedness doesn’t help the situation!

Allie is just one of those characters that you connect with straight away and I loved that she wasn’t jaded, and her new job is a fresh start for her. Overall, a good, suspenseful read with characters that have a steamy connection.

Review: Ugly Truths - Jen Stevens

Ugly Truths Ugly Truths by Jen Stevens
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Ugly Truths by Jen Stevens is book one in the Grimville Reapers series. The book focuses on the characters Nova and Levi. Nova is broken after surviving a tragic event which has ultimately changed who she is to her very foundation. Enter Levi, a man who calls to her but has his own demons. As both of them search to mend each other’s broken pieces, truths come to light and they have a fight on their hands, not only to save themselves but each other.

This was a beautifully written book which deals with a lot of traumatic subjects (reader caution advised). I loved the interplay between Nova and Levi as they both showed their vulnerabilities to each other whilst protecting their families (for very different reasons) .

This is a dark read due to the issues the characters deal with, but it is also a slow burn romance as both characters learn to trust each other. I enjoyed the fact that Levi didn’t push Nova into anything, but at times he was frustrating due to the amount of guilt he was carrying around. The characters were imperfect which was great to read as it gave them a more realistic feel as they faced their challenges head on.

BLURB:

A hidden world, secrets, love, betrayal… and dragons.

Sydney Miller—Almost seventeen, unschooled world traveler until the you-know-what hit the fan.  Reality? Gone... yanked out from under me like a cheap Ikea rug.

Here are the doozies I've learned since coming to the Dragon Born Academy: Dragons exist in this whole other world! My dad… not my dad. Also, bondmates exist. Yeah... I'm now bound to a heart-throb Prince to the Dragonborn—Ashe Carrick. The only downside? He won't touch me, and now he's told me to 'go live my life' - whatever that means!

I plan to forget him when I'm shipped off to my grandparents at Briony, the Dragonborn base. But how can I forget Ashe when he's right in front of me? I'm trying to resist his gorgeous baby blues and focus on other more important things. Like George! The man who raised me is here in the dungeon and he's the only one who has the answers I need about my mom, her research and the dragon realm. According to him, she might be alive! So this is my new obsession and I won't stop until I get to the bottom of it all!

*

Ashe Carrick—Twenty-three, Lieutenant for the Dragonborn Guard and the Elibera's hope to become Prime Leader of the Dragonborn. I have a whole host of problems, but I can't stop thinking of Sydney, the girl I'm bonded to. I've done my best to keep her at arm's length but she's like a siren. One look from her heats my blood… rousing something ancient and primal within me.

When our dragons bonded, I thought it was fate. Then I found out how old she was! For the love of the ancestors! How did I let this happen? Logic and reason ruled my life. I was a numbers guy—always in control, but when it came to Syd… not so much. That's why I had to end things.

Besides, I have a whole host of other problems I'm dealing with at the Dragonborn base, Briony. The PL has gone entirely off the rails and when George Miller is brought into lockdown, he might have the evidence to bring PL Lambert down—if we can keep him alive.

EXCERPT – romance

I should've told Logan no, that there could be no us.

Yes, we had a connection.

Yes, I was falling for him…

But Ashe was already living in my heart and Logan was just a tourist.

EXCERPT - Ashe

I poured water over the long dragon scratch, trying to clean away the rest of the dried blood and dirt. "What do I need to do to heal you?"

"We need to face each other," Sydney said, twisting around, keeping her makeshift covering in place.

Sitting between my bent legs, she looked so small and fragile. I grabbed her feet and pulled them around my hips before drawing her closer. She started to fall back with a cry, but I caught her arm, encircling her in my arms.

"Okay," she whispered, gazing up at me, her shoulders heaving with quickened breaths. "Put your hands on the sides of my face, and…" she pulled my head down until our foreheads touched.

"Now what?" I breathed, my body aching at her proximity, frustration boiling within me. My thoughts were all on her and none of them were about healing.

"Keep your eyes closed and focus on pushing it into me."

"Oh, for the love of the ancestors!" I murmured under my breath as I leaned away to meet her eye.

"Healing. Push healing through our connection!" She said exacerbated.

I tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, "You're killing me, you know that right?"

Her body heaved in an exacerbated sigh. "Are you going to do it or not?"

I groaned, "Yes. I am… just stop saying things like that. You're doing it on purpose."

She leaned back, "I am not! You're just all wound up! Maybe I should've given you some alone time first."

"Shhhh…" I ordered, pulling her back in, half hoping she'd drop her shirt, which she didn't. "I'm trying to heal you."

EXCERPT  - Sydney

My mind zoned in and out of reality as wave after wave crashed over me from the dragons.

I gazed up into the calm blue sky, vaguely aware when a shadow blotted out the sun.

"Don't touch her!" This was Durand's voice, but I couldn't understand why he would say that. "No! Corbin! No! Grab him! Hold him down!"

Ashe was near. I felt him. Turning my head, I met his eyes as he was forced down into the pine needles by three other soldiers in black.

"I was just trying to help…" Came the unfamiliar voice.

Durand's snarl vaguely entered my thoughts, "Did I say to pick him up and bring him to the girl? No. This is a dangerous situation. Look at them. They're both wrapped up in the mating."

"Get off of me!" Ashe roared as he clawed at the dry pine needle covered ground toward me.

"Hold him!" My uncle ordered again.

A wave of bliss washed over m,e and I moaned shifting in the dirt.

"Ummm…. I feel like we shouldn't be watching this," one of the soldiers commented.

Review: The Fight In Us - Becca Steele

The Fight In Us The Fight In Us by Becca Steele
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Fight in Us is book four of The Four series by Becca Steele and has been the anticipated story between Weston and Lena. If you’ve been reading this series, you know that a lot has been going on and answers have come to light. There were lots of twist and turns in this book as we watch Weston and Lena’s relationship develop from friends to lovers. We also see in more detail Lena and her life which at times was tragic, but also showed us how strong she was. Her love for Weston is never ending, even when he does things that hurt her.

Weston is just one of those great male characters, he’s sexy, vulnerable and at times funny. He has feelings for Lena but has never acted on them due to her being his best friends’ little sister. But, when things are meant to be, he goes against everything to be with her whilst trying to solve the mystery of what is going on at Alstone Holdings, balancing the relationship he has with his dad and brother and doing some geeky stuff in the background. The emotions just roll off the page with both him and Lena.

Yes, some of the questions have been answered, but there is still a long way to go before we fully know everyone’s role and what is going to happen. Like in previous books other characters such as Winter pop up and help push the characters along whilst trying to stay out of trouble (not an easy feat). Overall, another great book in this series and I can’t wait for more.

Review: Hot for Love - Melissa Foster

Hot for Love Hot for Love by Melissa Foster
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Hot for Love is the seventh book in the Braden & Montgomery series by Melissa Foster. The story focuses on the characters Trixie Jericho and Nick Braden who we’ve met in previous books. Trixie Jericho loves with all of her being. She loves her family albeit her annoying brothers, her friends and her life in general, but she is feeling a little bit stifled when it comes to going for her dreams of being an animal therapist and opening up her own miniature horse therapy business. But she has the support of Nick Braden, her best guy friend and overall hottie. The only issue is that she has feelings for him, and Nick hasn’t shown her anything but friendly interest.

Nick Braden is a hardworking man with simple needs. He loves working on his farm with his animals, doing his stunts with his horses and has unrequited feelings for Trixie who has friend-zoned him. He’s reluctant to make a move on Trixie, not only because of his friendship with her but also because of hurts in his past.

This was another wonderfully written book by Melissa Foster. The slow burn but intense heat from Trixie and Nick kept you turning the pages. We’re left guessing if Trixie will melt Nick’s heart or whether he will be open to love, even though we know he ‘loves’ Trixie. Will Trixie’s business make it off the ground? All is going to  be revealed in this beautiful and romantic story.

I also love the cast of other characters that make themselves known in this book, from family to friends, everyone has a story and a part to play in getting Trixie and Nick together! The book is full of passion, chemistry, fun and lots of animals (which always makes for a good read!). If you’re a new reader or an old reader of Melissa Foster, you’re going to love this book!

Review: My Saving Grace - Melanie Moreland

My Saving Grace My Saving Grace by Melanie Moreland
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Saving Grace is book one in the ABD Corps series by Meanie Moreland. The book looks at the characters Grave VanRyan, a law student who is working at a firm for some experience and Jaxson Richards, a jaded older man, and also Grace’s new boss.

This is a beautifully written story about two opposite types of people. Grace is smart, sassy and strong and is working hard to be the best layer and person that she can be. She also doesn’t let Jaxson get away with anything, even when he is breaking her heart! In contrast we have Jaxson who is jaded due to past trauma. At times you can feel his utter desperation to be with Grace and utter sadness when he does what he does to her. There is definite chemistry between the two characters which makes this a page turner of a book. I also loved the additional characters (Richard = hilarious) as well as Grace’s family members (I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with Grace’s sisters!)

This is a wonderful start to a new series. It is full of passion, angst and a few jokes thrown in just to make you feel a bit better, as there are certainly times when reading this book that you get frustrated by the characters!

Melanie Moreland is definitely becoming my go to author when it comes to sweet romances, that focus on family, friends and building lasting relationships.

Review: Archangel's Sun - Nalini Singh

Archangel's Sun Archangel's Sun by Nalini Singh
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Archangel’s Sun is the highly anticipated story of Titus and The Hummingbird/Sharine and is part of the Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh. At the end of the previous book, we saw the Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease get defeated, but they seem to have left unimaginable horrors behind. The reborn are set on taking over the world, especially in Titus’s area of Africa.

Titus and his people are trying their hardest to get rid of the reborn and to start over again. Enter the Hummingbird, a woman who has risen from the ashes and become Sharine. She is old and powerful, but her mind is like a kaleidoscope, giving her glimpses into her past which are not always easy to deal with.

Titus and Sharine worked so well together. You have Titus who is this booming, no nonsense Archangel who rules with strength and determination who is pitted with Sharine, an angel who is coming not only into her own powers (which have lain dormant), but a woman who speaks her mind, has a core strength about her and doesn’t let Titus get away with anything. I also enjoyed reading about her past, so that we saw how she became the Hummingbird. Her relationship with her son, Illium is beautiful too!

This was a wonderful book to read. It had action, romance and two characters that work well together to build a slow and steamy romance which has a backbone of steel.

Review: Her Hidden Valentine - Monique Moreau

Her Hidden Valentine, A Bad Boy Biker Novella Her Hidden Valentine, A Bad Boy Biker Novella by Monique Moreau
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Her Hidden Valentine by Monique Moreau is a short and fast paced read. If you’ve read previous books by Monique Moreau, you would have met Jazz and Hoodie before. Jazz is trying to survive, working two jobs to make ends meet and trying to help her father with his medical bills. She’ll do anything to get the help she needs, even if that means stealing from the MC that has taken her in.

Hoodie on the other hand is scarred, a mountain of a man and has had unrequited feeling for Jazz for years. When the opportunity arises for him to help her, he’s going to do anything he can to help, even if that means taking over her life in his own dominant, beastly ways.

This is a short and sexy read, just in time for Valentine’s day. Hoodie and Jazz were great characters who just got each other. Even though Hoodie had scars, Jazz didn’t see them. I also loved that Jazz crushed on Hoodie at the same time she did Whistle and that she had an air of vulnerability about her that Hoodie got. He wanted to make her his Queen and he certainly did that!

Another great read from Ms. Moreau, with an imperfect couple who are perfect for each other!

Review: Trapped: A Dark Mafia Romance - Anna Ray

Trapped: A Dark Mafia Romance Trapped: A Dark Mafia Romance by Anna Ray
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Trapped is book two in the Mafia Sinners series by Anna Ray. Were introduced to characters Massimo Accardi and   Alessandra Giuliana who just seem to have a spark, even though they don’t meet under the best of circumstances. Massimo has been looking for the killer of his family for years, but when he finds out that Alessandra’s father could have something to do with it, he is not only going to make him pay, but also her. Here we have a dark and brooding character, met with a fiery and sassy woman who wants to get out from under her father rule.

This was a wonderfully written, mafia romance, which has enough action and sexy scenes to make you keep turning the pages. We see the development of Massimo and Alessandra’s relationship as more secrets come to light and both of them are left questioning their role in their respective families. Alessandra isn’t your typical mafia princess and definitely has her own will and mind. I liked that she told Massimo exactly what she thought and even though she was nervous, told her father what she thought.

I also liked that Massimo wasn’t that mean at all to Alessandra and tried to make her as comfortable as possible as he plotted and planned.

Overall, a good, light mafia read by a new author for me.
