Review: Apex Basilisk - Terry Bolryder

Apex Basilisk Apex Basilisk by Terry Bolryder
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Apex Basilisk by Terry Bolryder is book one in the Big Bad Basilisks series and boy is it a different take on shifters. The story centres around April and Gunner. April has a hard life in her hometown of Clawson’s Creek which is ran by two different types of shifters, the Bears and the Wolves. To make things worse, she has the worst family ever who underpays her, treats her abhorrently and continues to make her work in their crappy bar. On the night of an important meeting in the bar the feud between shifters turns deadly and she comes across the silent and stoic Gunner, a part basilisk, part man who is protective of April from the start, especially when she gets blamed for what happens that night. From here on out, he isn’t going to leave her alone to face her challenges, but instead is going to help her face them head on.

This was a great story to read as were introduced to what it is like to be a basilisk and what that means for both Gunner and April when they cement their relationship. Yes, Gunner is a bit overprotective of April, but it comes form a good place, especially when you see how everyone treats her throughout the story…especially her own family! The chemistry between the two of them is also hot!

I enjoyed getting to know the other men in this book as well as finding out how everything played out and can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store!

Review: The Alpha Awakens - Anna Fury

The Alpha Awakens The Alpha Awakens by Anna Fury
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Alpha Awakens is book one in the Alpha Compound series by Anna Fury. The book focuses on the characters Mallory and Orion. When the virus hits the world, it brought about changes that only effects men, making them into violent, killing machines at least according to Mallory who watched a loved one go through the change. Now living an isolated and often scared life seems to be the way to go. That is until she gets onto the radar of not one, but two Awakened, but especially that of Orion an Alpha who is captivated by Mallory to begin with. Since Mallory is a journalist, it only seems fitting that she looks into the Awakened world to see what it is truly about, no matter how frightening it can be. There she may find a place where she truly belongs.

This book definitely has a lot going on, set in a post-apocalyptic time with an Omegaverse feel and throw in a bit of werewolf too, it is going to appeal to a lot of readers! The story is quite slow-paced as we see through the eyes of both Mallory and Orion as well as learn about the Awakened and what it means to become and be one and builds up into some people keeping secrets and not always being honest. As a first book though, it definitely was an introduction into the world of the Alpha Compound.

The chemistry between Mallory and Orion is instantly hot and as you read more of the book, you find out why that is and what it means for both of them. Both characters were really likeable, and their relationship flowed quite easily. You are definitely left with some questions regarding the Alpha/Omega/Awakened story line but I’m sure that the answers are to come in further books. Overall, an enjoyable read!

Review: Nate - C.M. Marin

Nate Nate by C.M. Marin
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Nate is book one in the Chaos Chasers MC by C.M. Marin and boy is it a hot read! The story centres around Camryn a woman who has come back to her hometown to heal and find peace, only to be flung into the MC world and the dangers that it brings. Along the way she meets Nate, the President of the Chaos Chasers a man who can be hard and tough but has an instantaneous soft spot for Camryn and everything she has been through. When Cam seems to be in some serious trouble, Nate and the rest of his MC is there to protect her.

This was a good MC read and a great start to a new series! I loved the introduction to other characters and can’t wait to read about them. Cam and Nate’s chemistry is insta-hot and with the twist and turns in this story, it was hard to put it down. Both characters are well suited to each other and even though the book might not have the violence of some other MC books, this was still a really good and enjoyable read. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Review: Death - Laura Thalassa

Death Death by Laura Thalassa
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Death is book four in The Four Horseman series by Laura Thalassa and the end to a brilliant series! The book focuses on Lazarus, a woman who cannot die, not by humans, the elements or by Death himself, which makes her intriguing to him. When he comes into her life repeatedly and leaves a trail of destruction, Lazarus knows that she must do anything that she can to stop him, or for him to at least help him to see that the end of humanities destruction may not be the way! Making a deal with the three horsemen might be the only way that Lazarus can save humanity, but at what cost?

From the get-go, Death aka Thanatos has been an intriguing character. Dark and mysterious with wings of an angel, he is an enigma, who comes across his own mystery in the form of Lazarus, a woman who he is attracted to but doesn’t quite understand. The build up between the two characters was page turning as they walk a desolate road of death and destruction whilst fighting an insane attraction to each other.

I really enjoyed finding out about Death’s rationale for his quest as well as him as a character as we only got glimpses of him in previous books. I couldn’t imagine anyone better for him than Lazarus who holds her own and is strong, determined and honest when it comes to how she feels about Death and what he is doing. Also, finding out about what has happened to the other horsemen was great and really tied up the series. I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Thalassa, I’m just a little sad that this series has come to an end!

Review: Addicted to You - Nikki Mays

Addicted to You Addicted to You by Nikki Mays
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Addicted to You by Nikki Mays is book two in the SAPD SWAT series and features Michelle and Damon’s story. Damon has literally been stalking Michelle for two years but has been too scared to ask her out as he feels like she is too light for his darkness. In doing so and only grunting at her in response to anything she does, he might have cut off his nose to spite himself and needs to try and get into her good graces again, if only she would stop hindering him every step of the way!

Michelle has put up with a lot from Damon and just doesn’t get where he comes off demanding things from her all of a sudden! Yes, he may be hot and she is attracted to him, but in other ways he completely gets on her last nerve! She may let him into her hear but first she is going to make him pay!

I really enjoyed the banter between these two characters who have been sniffing around each other for a while. There is definite chemistry between the two and when they do eventually get together…wow! Other characters also have a hand in the story and give some great if albeit hilarious advice whilst just rubbing Damon ‘the quiet one’ the wrong way. Twist and turns are a plenty when Michelle’s life is put in danger, and I can’t wait to see what happens to the rest of the guys in this series. Overall, a fun, contemporary read!

Review: Nanny for the Firemen - Cassie Cole

Nanny for the Firemen Nanny for the Firemen by Cassie Cole
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Nanny for the Firemen by Cassie Cole is a sweet and sizzling story about a woman who finds not only one but three men to literally light her fire! Clara is in a slump after moving back to town to help her mother at their restaurant after her father’s death. That all changes when she gets a date with a hunky fireman that she has been swooning over for a while now, but nothing goes to plan and when he catches up with her again it’s to ask her for a life changing favour, one where everyone gets a happily ever after.

This was a steamy and sweet read as we got to know all characters and their rationale on how to deal with their lives and the little bundle of joy that mixes up their plans. All of the men have their own personalities and vulnerabilities and bounce off each other! The twist and turns in the story were great and the sassiness of Clara’s mother was at times hilarious. Steamy scenes left you a bit sweaty and wanting more. A really good, quick reverse harem style book!

Review: Enemy Heir - Carrie Ann Ryan

Enemy Heir Enemy Heir by Carrie Ann Ryan
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Enemy Heir by Carrie Ann Ryan and Nana Malone is book 2 in the Tattered Royals series and boy is it a hottie! The book focuses on Breck and Sparrow. Sparrow is a strong, independent woman, who although has great chemistry with Breck, at times can’t stand him. He is the epitome of annoyance for her! Breck lives behind a facade of being a playboy without a care in the world, but underneath the playboy exterior is a caring man with a brilliant brain. When Sparrow is attacked, he’s going to let nothing get in his way of protecting the feisty woman who has his heart!

This was a wonderful, fats paced story with two great characters who although wind each other up are a perfect match. Both are strong characters individually, but together they become unstoppable. The banter, the passion and the action keep this book flowing and keep you wanting to turn the pages.

I loved the vulnerability of Breck at times and how he felt within his own family and Sparrow and her sassy attitude was great, especially when she was throwing it at Breck. Overall, this was a great suspense and passion filled book.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Hyde and Seek - Layla Frost

Hyde and Seek Hyde and Seek by Layla Frost
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Hyde and Seek is book one in the Hyde series by Layla Frost and boy is it a scorcher. The story focuses on Piper Skye and Jake Hyde, two complete opposites who collide together in passion, misunderstandings and suspense. Piper is a young woman on the verge of owning her own business whilst attending school. She knows that there is a lot to focus on and needs to stick to a plan. That is until the stoic and often grumpy Jake steps into her atmosphere.

Jake is a mechanic who has worked hard for what he has. He’s a workaholic, doesn’t trust people but has a great group of people who he calls his family. He is bowled over by the instant attraction that he has for Piper and worries that her age and innocence is not for him.

This was a wonderfully sweet book with two people trying to figure out what they mean to each other, with lots of miscommunication, laughs, passion and some extremely hot sexy times. I liked Piper and Jake for each other as they did bring out the best to each other. I also enjoyed reading the side story which at times was suspenseful and I didn’t see the twist at all.

If you’re looking for a cute, funny and sexy read then this is a great series for you. No cliff-hanger and some great characters! I definitely recommend!

Review: Wild Cowboy Wolf - Kait Ballenger

Wild Cowboy Wolf Wild Cowboy Wolf by Kait Ballenger
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Wild Cowboy Wolf is a wild ride by Kait Ballenger. The story focuses on Blaze and Dakota, friends who become something more, but danger is around every corner and when Blaze’s past comes back to haunt him, his and the lives of his pack mates become more complicated. Both Blaze and Dakota are warriors, but both questions their lives. Blaze questioning his past and Dakota questioning who she really is and what is missing from her life. The two have a passion for each other but have been afraid to make the first move due to their long-time friendship, but once they cross the line, boy do they burn! There is a lot going on in this story, with secrets coming to life, a new breed of shifters (who are certainly different), friends becoming lovers and people just making things complicated. It may have been easier to read this series from the beginning, but you can still follow along with the storylines if this is your first foray into this series. Overall, a good read with some intriguing twist and turns and two great characters who fight their attraction, but ultimately know that they are better together! ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Surrender to You - Nikki Mays

Surrender to You Surrender to You by Nikki Mays
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Surrender to You is a sweet and sassy story by Nikki Mays. The story focuses on Mel ‘Melanie’ and Morris, two people who seem to bumble around each other, even though they are both harbouring an attraction to one another, but both are scared to make the first move in case they come across as silly. Enter Mel’s brother and the rest of his SWAT team, who push their SWAT buddy and friend, Morris, straight into Mel’s path with a lot of jokes and ribbing, but danger lurks around the corner, and it has Mel in the crosshairs.

Mel was a great character. She was quirky, often neurotic and snarky. She had a great relationship with people, especially her brother and I enjoyed reading about her relationship with Morris as it became something more. She was totally infatuated with Morris from the start, and it was hilarious when she got tongue tied around him.

Morris is the quintessential nice guy. He loves Mel’s quirkiness and just wants to protect her. The build up between the two is full of passion, fun times, some hilarity and some drama. This was definitely a cute read and a good start to a series.
