Review: Tears of Betrayal - Michelle Heard

Tears of Betrayal Tears of Betrayal by Michelle Heard
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Tears of Betrayal by Michelle Heard tells the story of Demitri and Ariana. Ariana is trying to get her business to start up, look after her ailing mother and continue to connect with her Russian father, who also happens to be the head of the Bratva. Her life gets complicated when a hit is put out on her and Demitri is put in charge of keeping her alive. Although his methods of doing that at times can be unusual i.e., kidnapping, tying up, etc. His intentions do come from a good is slightly complicated place. Demitri Vetrov, is an assassin, a killer and protector of the innocent. When he is given a task of looking after an innocent, it throws his rather violent but structured life into a tailspin. He is really taken with Ariana who hasn’t lived the Bratva life but knows that she is strong enough to survive in his world, with both him and Andrei by her side. I really enjoyed the push and pull between the two characters as they try and stay alive whilst their relationship becomes something more. Both characters were self-sacrificing towards each other which highlighted how deep their feelings really ran. I also liked how Andrei ended up playing an important role in their relationship and I can’t wait to see what becomes of him and if he’ll get his own book. Scenes between the characters were sexy, sometimes sweet and with a touch of violence (mainly due to the lives that they needed to lead!) I also enjoyed the fact that Demitri didn’t cut Ariana’s wings, but let her flourish and become strong herself, even when she didn’t want to be. There are some genuine moments in the book that has some deep feels and vulnerable moments. Overall, another great Bratva read with some great twist and turns. ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Romancing the Stone Witch - Keri Stevens

Romancing the Stone Witch Romancing the Stone Witch by Keri Stevens
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Romancing the Stone Witch is book one in the Cards of Coventry series by Keri Stevens. The book focuses on main character Delia Forrest, who has the unique gift of being able to speak to statues. Being a stone conservator, the statues talk to her incessantly and seem to be her only friend in a world which has been quite cruel to her and her gifts. When her estranged father is hurt in a house fire, Delia’s world comes crashing down around her as a man from her past, Grant Wolverton comes back into the picture and tries to take her beloved house from her. But Grant is not the person that Delia remembers and the reason that he has come back into her life may not necessarily be altruistic.

This was definitely an interesting story with a good story line and some great characters. Delia is shy, quiet and vulnerable to begin with, but her confidence grows throughout the book as does her relationship with the ever-brooding Grant. I enjoyed the sometimes-hilarious interplay that Delia has with the statues as well as the twist and turns in the book as we figure out who the players are and how they all fit together.

A good read and a great start to a new series!

Review: Aftereffect - T.L. Hodel

Aftereffect Aftereffect by T.L. Hodel
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

T.L. Hodel is a new author to me, but after reading this book, she is definitely going to be on my TBR list! The story focuses on Misha Kessler and Riley Adams, two very different human beings. Having met when they were younger and making a lasting (not quite in a nice way) impression on one another and now Riley is on Misha’s radar, and he isn’t letting her go!

Riley is the town’s Sheriff’s daughter, moving in with him after the death of her mother. To add insult to injury she has a new stepmother and brother. Her life is not going as planned and she has some snarkiness to her when people are trying to tell her to act or be a certain way. She is definitely the champion of her own story, and we see throughout the book how much she has put up with stuff in her young life, especially from Misha who seems to be arounds every corner, brooding, intense and alpha male!

Micha was a ruthless male, dominant and part of a secret society where no one seems to be safe, and secrets are dealt out like playing cards. At moments he is brutal, especially to Riley and it takes a long time to realise why he is that way as well as the rest of his friends.

This was an intense, dark, bully read with some sexual scenes that some other reader may not like. For me, I loved it and thoroughly enjoyed the banter between all of the characters. I am intrigued about other characters and can’t wait to delve into the other books in the series. I would definitely recommend!

Review: Rushed - Aurora Rose Reynolds

Rushed Rushed by Aurora Rose Reynolds
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Rushed is part of the new ‘Adventures in Love’ series by Aurora Rose Reynolds and focuses on Cybil and Tanner. When Cybil is dumped by her fiancΓ©, she is stuck going to a wilderness retreat that she can’t get a refund for. There she meets Tanner, a man who is going to turn her world upside down and who also happens to be one of her guides during the retreat.

Cybil and Tanner just work well together, and they are both super sweet. It is an insta-love type story, especially more from Tanner’s point of view, but it is a supremely cute read and page turner. Tanner’s business partners and an extremely annoying woman on the tour try and make things complicated for Tanner and Cybil, but when you know you know and that is what this story focuses on. Taking chances when you’ve been burnt and not settling for anything less than butterflies.

A swoony read with a masculine but caring guy and a woman that just needs to believe in herself a little bit more. A great start to a new series.

Review: Vicious Union - Jocelyn Soto

Vicious Union Vicious Union by Jocelyne Soto
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Vicious Union by Jocelyn Soto is book one in the red-hot cartel series ‘Flor De Muertos’. The story focuses on Serena and Leo. Serena has just been dumped and in a bid to cheer her up, her best friend and room mate decides on a spur of the moment trip to Las Vegas. Not only do they have fun, but Serena is also helped by the mysterious Leo….and an instant attraction is born.

Leo hates the life he is born into, but can’t get out of it, at least not without sacrificing his life. As the son of the head of the Mexican Cartel his life is full of violence and bloodshed as well as protecting his younger sisters. Even when he meets Serena, he is worried about bringing her into his world and it takes him a little while to be honest with her about it.

There is a lot going on in this insta-attraction book, with two different types of people trying to figure out their lives together and what that means for not only them, but for those who surround them especially when there is treachery and violence around every corner.

Serena and Leo really do deserve each other. They overcome a lot and go through a lot to have their happily ever after. Through bloodshed and tears, but they do make it in the end. This was a perfectly put together read with some steamy scenes and a very interesting take on the whole cartel and the relationships that go on in and around it.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Blurb:

Unapologetically f*cked up. Heartlessly cruel. Broken beyond repair.

Corvus, Rook, and Grey – The Crows.

Bred in a world of gang wars, violence, and secrets, they rule the bloody town of Thorn Valley and all the people in it…too bad for me I’ve never been good at kissing ass or keeping quiet.

Even if their savage spirits awaken something inside of me I thought was long dead, I can’t break. I won’t.

They think they scare me, that I’ll run and hide, but the joke’s on them. The Crows aren’t the first monsters I’ve faced, and they won’t be the last. There are worse evils out there waiting to take their stab at Ava Jade Mason.

I say let them try. I’m tired of running. Tired of holding back my darkness. Thorn Valley isn’t ready for a new boogie man. Too bad I’m already here.

Crooked Crows is a dark enemies-to-lovers reverse harem romance, meaning the main character will have more than one love interest.

Warning: This series contains foul language, explicit sexual content, graphic depictions of gang violence, and jealous/possessive themes. Recommended for readers aged eighteen and up. Please read responsibly.

Review: Find Me - Ashley N. Rostek

Find Me Find Me by Ashley N. Rostek
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Find Me is the brilliant new series by Ashley N. Rostek. The story follows Shiloh as her life is forever changed after the death of her parents and twin sister, she is completely alone and learning not only to cope with their death’s, but to put her life on track. We follow her emotional story as she starts her new school and makes friends with her sexy neighbour brothers and overall, just try and be normal. But what happens when the past is just around the corner ready to pounce at any moment, she may just have to rely on the brothers more than she thinks whilst trying to keep herself together.

This was a very emotional read. We experience everything Shiloh has gone through and is going through. She has quite a few flashbacks which tells us the story about what has happened to her. We also see her strength and determination as she tries to rebuild her life, even with the setbacks she has. Her relationship with the brothers is intriguing and it is going to be interesting to see how it develops over the series, especially since they too have their own baggage that they bring into their relationships with Shiloh.

Shiloh is an epically strong character, not only has she dealt with a lot, but she also has to deal with some of the students at school who are just plain mean. I loved that she didn’t take any of their crap lying down and spoke her mind when she needed too. I also enjoyed the relationship that she had with Ethan who was witty but a big protector of Shiloh’s.

Overall, this was a well written book, with a slow burn twist. The cliff-hanger at the end is going to leave you wanting more. After having been in a book slump for a while, this book picked me up, shook me out and took me on a wild ride. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Review: Crooked Crows - Elena Lawson

Crooked Crows Crooked Crows by Elena Lawson
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Crooked Crows is book one in the exciting new series by Elena Monroe. The book focuses on the characters Corvus, Rook and Grey, better known as The Crows. A dangerous group of men who rule the town of Thorn Valley with blood and violence and the equally hard-core Ava Jade, new to town and from the wrong side of the tracks. She isn’t scared of The Crows and their agenda, especially when she has one of her own!

This is a wild ride of a story as each character’s tale unfolds and we are entrenched in their violent world. As it is a reverse harem, it’s not long before the sparks and sass are flying and Ava Jade certainly isn’t going to make it easy for The Crows, especially when there seems to be a lot of secrets and mistrust going on. But Ava Jade can hold her own, as we see with each turn of the page, she definitely isn’t a simpering heroine and can certainly save herself! As the new girl at school and town she knows not to make waves, but she just can’t help it. Hence The Crow’s trying to control her….oh silly Crows! Ava Jade is a law unto herself and she’s going to make the boys learn that she too has a darkness in her that rivals all of them.

This is a dark book, with lots of twist and turns and some triggers for some readers, so make sure you read the author’s blurb before going in. But if you’re like me and like your reads, dark, sexy and sinful then this new series is definitely the one for you. A hot, reverse harem with some dangerously dark characters! Also, it has a twisted cliff-hanger at the end (be warned!)

Review: Poseidon's Lady - Darlene Tallman

Poseidon's Lady Poseidon's Lady by Darlene Tallman
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Poseidon’s Lady by Darleen Tallman was a quick MC read for me. The story is fast paced and focuses on the relationship of Poseidon, former Navy SEAL and President his MC and Lillianna Rose, a woman on the run from her ex-fiancΓ©e and best friend who are definitely shady! Poseidon saves Lillianna from near death in the snow and from there , their relationship grows in leaps and bounds. Poseidon is a no nonsense, alpha male who only wants to protect Lillianna, especially when he hears about everything, she has been through following her parents’ death and escaping her ex-fiancΓ©s clutches. Lillianna seems to catch on quickly that Poseidon is the real deal, even though it takes her a little while to wrap her head around going from one man to the other. But there is definitely instant attraction between the two and it’s not long before both of them are fighting and loving on each other….with a little bit of help from the MC boys and girls.

Overall, a fast-paced, insta-love MC story with a little bit of drama, some steamy moments and great characters.
