Review: Bowie: Speed Demons MC - Jules Ford

Bowie: Speed Demons MC Bowie: Speed Demons MC by Jules Ford
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bowie is book one in the Speed Demons MC series by Jules Ford and focuses on the story of Bowie and Layla. Layla has had a hard life, being a single mother with no family left in a town which is very judgemental of its patrons. She is just trying to do the best for her daughter, even if that means working every hour under the sun and facing the wrath of those around her. She thought Bowie may be different but after their night together, when he treats her like trash, her whole world falls apart and it is going to take a lot of time before she forgives him.

Bowie is definitely a jerk to Layla to begin with, but when he realises who she is and how the town treats her because she is a young, single parent, his attitude certainly changes. It also helps that his father and the rest of the MC put him in his place. There is a lot of grovelling and trying to win Layla over throughout the book and at times, he really messes up! But the love that these two characters feel for each other are enduring, even when they find out what happened to Layla before the birth of her wonderful daughter, Sunshine.

I liked the fact that Layla became stronger as the book went on and she found her place within the MC. The back stories of other characters is also great and you get a real sense of family throughout the book. It has your typical MC things happening within the book but I love the drama, angst and passion that you find in MC book, so it made me happy. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Review: The Jigsaw Man - Nadine Matheson

The Jigsaw Man The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson is book one in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series and boy is it a page turner. We’re introduced to the Inspector as she comes back from being on leave where she is literally thrown into a new case where dismembered bodies are turning up with strange symbols on them. Symbols which can only mean one thing, Peter Olivier ‘The Jigsaw Killer’ must be involved. She has already survived him once, but can she survive him again?

This was a great page turner with a main character who is strong yet vulnerable. We definitely see into Anjelica’s psyche as her and her new partner try and hunt down a killer before more people turn up dead. The twist and turns were great as we as a reader try and figure out how people are connected and what lengths people will go to for their own personal justice. I liked that Anjelica was flawed as well as a woman who is trying to look after her family whilst balancing a demanding job. Her relationship with Olivier is reminiscence of Starling and Dr Lecter and it just makes the book!

At times the book can be quite gruesome and super intense and this keeps you wanting to turn the pages to see what is going to happen next. I also enjoyed that we saw the story from multiple points of view which really let you dig deep into certain characters and really left you wanting more. I can’t wait to see what happens to Anjelica next and I am absolutely thrilled that I’ve come across a new writer.

Review: Shadows - Kristen Proby

Shadows Shadows by Kristen Proby
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Shadows by Kristen Proby is book one in the Bayou Magic series, and it is a brilliant read. The story sucks you in straight away when we meet the main character, Brielle, a woman who literally sees the dead. As a ghost tour guide in the haunted New Orleans, Brielle can’t control what she sees, and when young women start turning up as ghosts with horrific injuries, Brielle knows that there is something more going on. On her tour she meets Cash, an FBI agent who is taking a break from his job and they both feel instantly attracted to one another and kind of become part of each other’s lives rather quickly, especially when dead bodies start turning up.

I loved the fact that this story was set in New Orleans, as you know that it already going to have some spooky elements, and this one didn’t disappoint! You’re definitely sucked into the story of Brielle as well as being introduced to her sisters and the voodoo community that they belong too.  There was a little bit of insta-love between Cash and Brielle, but you see the magic of their relationship and how its almost like they knew each other in a previous life.

The story has enough twist and turns to keep you turning the pages as well as some blood, suspense and mystery to keep you turning the page to find out what happens next. I’m certainly excited to read the next story in this series and can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.

Blurb:

Our first meeting was at a nightclub, and it was something straight out of my most romantic fantasies.

My ovaries exploded at the sight of the Russian God. And by God, I mean he was ripped, tall, dark, and deadly attractive. There were enough sparks between us to light up a city.

Then an explosion blasted through the nightclub, and we got trapped together for three hours, sharing our most personal details… everything but our names.

Two years later, our second meeting is the complete opposite of the first. It’s clear Misha Petrov, a Russian enforcer for the bratva, despises me. The emotional night we shared meant nothing to him.

You see, my family is sworn enemies with the bratva and Italian mafia, which means Misha considers me a threat.

I wish I could hate him the way he hates me. But nooo, my stupid heart wants what it wants.

Every rough touch from Misha makes my skin tingle.

Every low-rumbling threat growled through his clenched teeth has my breath speeding up.

We might be sworn enemies, but I can’t stop myself from wanting this dangerous man.

Then there’s the other problem.

If I can, by some miracle, get Misha to fall in love with me, we’ll only have to face the entire bratva and my family.

What could possibly go wrong?

Review: Destroy Me - Michelle Heard

Destroy Me Destroy Me by Michelle Heard
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Destroy Me by Michelle Heard is book one in the new series ‘Corrupted Royals’ and boy is this one explosive. The story focuses on Misha and Aurora who meet one night in a nightclub and have instantly hot attraction, only for something to happen which sheds light on both of their identities and throws turmoil on their budding relationship. It isn’t until two years later that the pair will meet again at St. Monarchs a school where those in the Bratva, Mafia and Yakuza to name but a few send their children to train in the art of killing, torture and everything else in between. Here the two meet again, but it isn’t love at first sight this time…more like hate with a good dose of lust thrown in. Misha will do everything in his power to make sure Aurora knows how much he hates her, but when her life is put on the line, Misha’s feelings will come to the surface and the monster is going to be released.

This is definitely a twisted version of Romeo and Juliet, with Bratva, Mafia and a girl who doesn’t understand her own strength thrown into the mix. Aurora goes through a lot in the book, and you see her come out of the other side stronger if not a little jaded. Her feelings for Misha didn’t really change throughout the book, even though there were times that he treat he abysmally.

Misha is just pure male all the way through and is sometimes put into difficult positions to help Aurora as well as make sure he is keeping his word to his ‘family’. I loved the relationship that he had with his brothers as well as the lengths he will go to, to protect Aurora…think pure, alpha male.

Overall, this was a good mafia story and a quick read, with characters relationships developing quickly and with a lot of steam. If you’ve read previous books by Michelle Heard, you’ll have been introduced to St. Monarchs previously and what it is all about. For a first book in a new series, this one really set it up for books that are too follow, now it is just the wait and see whose going to be next.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
