Review: Legacy - Laura Pavlov

Legacy Legacy by Laura Pavlov
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Legacy by Laura Pavlov is book one in the Montgomery Brothers series. This one focuses on the characters Ford Montgomery and Harley. Ford is a hardworking, straight-shooting kind of guy. Having taken over the reigns of the family company due to the death of his father he doesn’t have time for the quirky or snarky so that especially means that someone like Harley doesn’t make it onto his radar…or does she? When a business opportunity comes up for Harley to open up her bakery in one of the Montgomery buildings, Harley takes it with both hands. Afterall, she has worked hard to get to where she is and no one, not even the no nonsense businessman Ford is going to stop her. But what happens when they start spending more time together and see a different side of one another?

This was a lovely book to read. It had just enough angst to keep you turning the pages. Ford and Harley have a lot of banter with each other, they are two very different types of people, but as friends and then a couple they really work well together. Ford can sometimes be overbearing in his protection of Harley, but it is also very sweet. Harley has had to endure a lot throughout her life and I felt like she showed Ford a part of herself that she doesn’t show anyone else. The Montgomery family as a whole is wonderful to read about and the brothers can be quite hilarious!

There are a few surprises thrown into the mix that will keep you guessing and make you teary eyed at the same time. But if you like your romances, sweet and sexy then this is going to be a good read for you! Great characters, a great story and a brand new series, what more could you want?

Review: Dex - Rie Warren

Dex Dex by Rie Warren
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Dex by Rie Warren is a seriously sexy, mafia romance and the third book in the O’ Sullivan Brothers series. The story focuses on supremely alpha male Dex and the equally strong and opinionated Ivy. Ivy has a function in Dex’s family club and wants everything to run smoothly, even down to the clothes that the help needs to wear, to say that this rubs Dex the wrong way is an understatement. When both of them meet, it seems to be instant dislike between the two of them, but there are also sparks flying which sets off a series of events which puts the two into close and sexy proximity, especially when Ivy learns some home truths about her father and what he does for a living.

Dex and Ivy are scorching on the page and get up to a lot of shenanigans. Both characters are certainly headstrong and try to dominate each other, but Dex is totally an alpha male who isn’t going to let Ivy step all over him, especially in the bedroom. Ivy is also a woman that knows her mind and what she wants. There are some moments of vulnerability between the two when it comes to communication and when Ivy becomes a sort of pawn between Dex and her father.

There are some good twists and turns in this book and the story keeps you wanting to turn the pages. The chemistry between the two characters also makes it a very enjoyable mafia read!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Hero - Renee Rose & Vanessa Vale

Hero Hero by Renee Rose
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Hero by Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale is book one in the Alpha Mountain series and boy is it a hottie! The book looks at the relationship of Indigo and Ford. Ford is friends with Indi’s older brother Buck. After trying to tempt Ford one night, many years ago and being shot down, Indi is a bit gun shy, but with the death of her beloved brother, a conspiracy on how he died and Ford being back in her hometown, things are going to get slightly heated!

This book ticks all the boxes, it has suspense, drama, hotness and some great characters. Indi is a strong woman who knows her mind and she does put Ford in his place when he starts getting overprotective. She also shows vulnerability on what happened with Ford and how the death of her brother has affected not only her but others around her too.

Ford is the dominant alpha male, he does try to take over Indi’s life at points, but more in a protective way than a domineering one. He has a great relationship with his grandmother and men who are still technically under his command. As he tries to find his best friend’s killer, he has to precariously balance his feelings for Indi as well as how he thinks Buck would have felt with him being with his little sister. Once Ford and Indi do get together… well lets say sparks certainly fly!

I can’t wait to read the next book as this one I definitely couldn’t put down!

Review: Forbidden Mafia Prince - Brooke Blaine & Ella Frank

Forbidden Mafia Prince Forbidden Mafia Prince by Brooke Blaine
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Forbidden Mafia Prince is book one in the Malvagio Duet by Brooke Blaine & Ella Frank and falls into the mafia/suspenseful genre. The book focuses on Dom and Luca. Luca is a young medical student who has his future mapped out and has a great family, or so he thinks. When he is kidnapped by the domineering Dom, his world is turned on its axis and he is thrown into a new world of mafia, violence and sexual tension created by his kidnapper.

Dom and Luca’s relationship starts off very unconventional, full of threats and suspense as we’re dropped into Dom’s world of the mafia and what that means when he and another family are at war. He has an instant dislike for Luca but as tensions escalate, their relationship becomes more heated as the chemistry explodes between them. There are some twists and turns throughout the story as we figure out why Luca is so important as well as finding out how Dom is trying to cement his place as mafia leader and we definitely learn more about the two as the story progresses.

There is a cliff-hanger at the end so be warned. Overall, a good M/M mafia read!

Review: Dark Poison - Bec Botefuhr

Dark Poison Dark Poison by Bec Botefuhr
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Dark Poison by Bec Botefuhr is book one in the Dark Brother series. The book focuses on Jagger and Willow. Willow has had quite a difficult life with her addicted mother and a father who has died. But not everything is as it seems and Willow is caught up in a gang war, kidnapped and abused to find out information that she may or may not know by Jagger and his band of brothers.

The book focuses a lot on Willow and her need to escape as well as her mental health issues which seem to be exacerbated by Jagger who also seems to have his own issues. There is a lot of to and fro in this book regarding the characters getting together, what it means and if Willow has Stockholm Syndrome. There is some violence against Willow from both Jagger and his brothers as well as violence in general as they all try to find out the truth about Willow’s father.

I felt sorry for Willow in the sense that she had such a rough upbringing and the man that is meant to love her (her father) and the Jagger both kind of leave her out to dry in different ways. There are definitely some sexy scenes between Jagger and Willow, but I came away with the sense that they don’t really like each other!

There is a cliff-hanger at the end which I didn’t see coming and readers should read with caution for triggers.

Review: Whit - Cora Rose

Whit Whit by Cora Rose
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Whit by Cora Rose is a beautifully written M/M book with some intriguing and fun characters. Whit and Caleb are roommates and are totally different from one another. Whit is quiet, reserved and a mystery in comparison to the outgoing, fun-loving Caleb. But Caleb is needy and possessive of his roommate and also straight…or is he. Whit definitely pushed all of Caleb’s buttons and before long, the two of them are experimenting with each other. But, Whit is a closed book and the more Caleb tries to get to know him, the more secrets he seems to keep until it all gets too much!

This was a beautifully written book with some wonderful characters and a great story. I loved the neediness of Caleb and where it comes from. I also loved his family who are crazy but love and support each other so much. Caleb is such an open book in comparison to Whit and we see that throughout the whole nook with how he talks to Whit and even his brothers about how he feels.

Whit on the other hand certainly doesn’t waste his words. His story is heart-breaking at times and he sure is stubborn. When we find out his secret, it does rip your heart out a little bit and is monumental to the whole Caleb/Whit relationship. If you like your M/M books emotional, sexy and unputdownable, then this is the book for you. A great read and I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Sidenote: there could be triggers for some readers.

Review: The Dark King - Gina L. Maxwell

The Dark King The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell is a seriously hot and sexy read! The story looks at the characters Caiden Verran and Bryn Meara. Bryn gets a free trip to Las Vegas with a lot of perks. During her time there she meets the enchantingly dark Caiden, a reclusive billionaire and King of Las Vegas and so much more. After a passionate night, the two find themselves married but not everything is as it seems, and Bryn is thrown into Caiden’s world of the dark fae and him being the fae king of the Night Court.

Bryn and Caiden find themselves embroiled in some deviousness with some serious twist and turns throughout the book. We also have Caden and Bryn’s relationship with its kinks and darkness. Caiden is definitely a dominant alpha and knows what he wants and he certainly finds the perfect partner in Bryn, who throughout the book finds herself in a new world, attracted to a fae and doesn’t lose sight of who she is. I especially liked the sarcasm that she throws at Caiden at times.

This book is definitely a lot of fun to read, especially if you like a little bit of paranormal with your romance. It has some great characters and pulls you into an intriguing world. Scenes are sexy between the characters and we are also introduced to a plethora of new characters (especially Caiden’s brothers), who you want to know more about. A great start to a new series!

Review: Abandoned in Death - J.D. Robb

Abandoned in Death Abandoned in Death by J.D. Robb
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Abandoned in Death is book 54 in the ‘In Death’ series by J.D. Robb, can you believe it! A woman is found on a bench in a playground , neatly arranged and with a note “Bad Mommy’. This brings in Eve and her team to try and figure out what the killer is trying to say and if he will kill again! Of course, the case isn’t as cut and dry and you would think and Eve is thrown into the chase of trying to find a killer before he kills again!

This was another great addition to this series. Of course, all of the usual characters are there: Roarke, Feeney and Peabody to name but a few as they all have their roles to find the killer whilst trying to balance their social lives. I definitely think Eve doesn’t have as many rough edges as she did in previous books, this is certainly due to her finding Roarke and her ‘family’ who put up with Eve just being her hard-headed but loving self.

The story is full of suspense as we try to figure out who the killer is and has some good twist and turns as well as some good family moments (Peabody & Mavis) Overall, this was another enjoyable read in a great series!
