Review: Repeat Offender - Lani Lynn Vale

Repeat Offender Repeat Offender by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Repeat Offender sees Lani Lynn Vale return with a new series: Souls Chapel Revenant MC. The book shows the story of Lynnwood ‘Lynn’ Thatcher Windsor, a man who has had a lot of personas and lived a lot of lies. He’s the new mayor in town and he is not going to let the seedy underworld destroy everything good he is trying to work for. If only Ines ‘Six’ Broussard got the message. She is a hot mess of understatement and finds herself in the centre of Lynn’s problems. Thinking that Lynn is boring, he doesn’t ding on Six’s radar, until he does and then everything in the game starts to change.

This is a fast-paced passion filled, easy read. The characters are brilliant. I loved Six’s snarkiness, goofiness and just being different in general. She only seems to show her vulnerability to Lynn, but overall takes the world by the proverbial horns.

Lynn is completely different in contrast. An older man who has seen and done a lot in his life, he skirts the fringes of right and wrong and he seems to have a different persona depending upon the people he is dealing with. How he wants to run his town is intriguing and I can’t wait to get more into the series to see what each character brings to it.

Overall, another good read and a great start to a new series!

Review: Feuds and Reckless Fury - K. Webster

Feuds and Reckless Fury Feuds and Reckless Fury by K. Webster
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Feuds and Reckless Fury is the new MM, enemies to lover’s romance by K. Webster. The story focuses on Canyon and Alister. Canyon’s father has just proposed to Alis’s dad, much to the surprise of Canyon and the rest of his family. What ensues is pure drama on an epic scale and all Canyon can think about is getting even with his dad, and the best way to do that is through his new stepbrother Alis’. But Alis’ isn’t going to go down without a fight.

This story starts off with Canyon looking basically for revenge and there really isn’t any length that he won’t go to, to make Alis’ submit, even when it causes issues with his relationships with others as well as his standing in school. Canyon is definitely the wildcard throughout this story with a lot of sorrow, vulnerability and betrayal going on for him.

This brings us to Alis’ who is trying to be the perfect child so that his ‘father’ won’t throw him away. Alis’ has a completely different story from Canyon, and it plays out throughout the pages whilst he tries not only to fight his attraction to Canyon, but also keep on his good side. The moments that Alis’ and Canyon have together are beautifully complex as they become more tangled in each other.

There is definitely a lot going on story wise in this book and the duel POV certainly help us as a reader to better understand what is going on. Scenes are emotional, angst filled and full of passion. It’s definitely a page turner, full of surprises and some difficult issues.

Review: A Bullet Between Us - K. Dosal

A Bullet Between Us A Bullet Between Us by K. Dosal
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

A Bullet Between us is the first book by new write K. Dosal. The story is set with a mafia style background and a woman who feels like she has nothing to lose. Davina has experienced a lot in her life, and it goes from bad to worse when she witnesses something she shouldn’t have and becomes embroiled in a fight for her own life. She is haunted by what she has witnessed, and we see her barely surviving until Ilias comes along.

Ilias is a very unique character with a complicated history. He is an enigmatic character, an alpha but who had a vulnerability to him, which was a refreshing change for this genre of book. He has to balance two sides of his life, one being a police officer and the other being part of the Mafia and making sure he’s protecting his brothers.

The story is complex and there is a lot going on as we figure out what roles characters play. I enjoyed the fact that the love wasn’t instant between he two characters and that Ilias wouldn’t let Davina hide, but also wouldn’t let her do anything stupid. There was a lot of steamy chemistry between the two characters with a lot of action and suspense which kept you guessing what was going to happen.

A really good start to a new series and a new author!

Review: Undercover Wolf - Paige Tyler

Undercover Wolf Undercover Wolf by Paige Tyler
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Undercover Wolf is book 2 in the STAT: Special Threat Assessment Team by Paige Tyler. The story centres around Alpha werewolf Harley Grant and Alpha werewolf Sawyer Bishop who are thrown together due to their jobs overlapping with one another. The story follows them as they travel around the world trying to beat the bad guys and save the day as they both figure out who they can trust.

Like previous Paige Tyler books, this one is full of action, suspense and passion. Both the characters are instant hits with me!  I enjoyed reading about their journey as well as them juggling their increasingly dangerous jobs and their relationship with each other. I love the paranormal element of Paige Tyler books, which definitely makes her a one click author for me.

Review: Merciless Saints - Michelle Heard

Merciless Saints Merciless Saints by Michelle Heard
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Merciless Saints by Michelle Heard was one unstoppable book! The story focuses on Winter Hemsley and Damien Vetrov. The story is unique in the sense that we are dealing with two really strong characters who have both been through a lot in their short lives. They are both attending  Monarch Academy which is set up for students whose families are part of organised crime as a kind of neutral territory, where they can learn skills and once they graduate get a contracted out to either help others or to build their families empire. The fact that they are all enemies who have to work together is wonderful to read about as everyone skirts the line of trying not to kill one another.

In the centre of this we have Winter, who wants to protect her family whilst keeping her status as ‘Blood Princess’ strong. There isn’t anything she won’t do for her family and we see this when she takes on the stoic and sexy Damien Vetrov. Damien’s future is set, he knows what he wants to do, but a tragic set of circumstances has him having to protect Winter and everything her family stands for.

Winter and Damien as separate characters are strong but putting them together is pure magic and we see that through the instant chemistry between the two. Winter definitely makes Damien more human and vulnerable, whereas Damien makes Winter stronger. The push and pull between the two is a page-turner.

There is a lot of action and changing of dynamics in this book and the sexy scenes are definitely hot! This was a dark, suspenseful romance with some cracking characters! A must read!

Review: Ronan - Cee Bowerman

Ronan Ronan by Cee Bowerman
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Ronan by Cee Bowerman is book 4 in the Connor Brothers construction series. It is an easy read about twin Ronan and his budding new relationship with Thea. Ronan is between women after the death of family members and is just plodding along in his daily life. When he is caught up in the middle of a prank, he goes on the rampage to find out who has put his picture on a poster which has made him part of an auction, only to come across Thea, the event planner who is behind it all. For Ronan, the attraction is instant but for Thea, she has a lot going on in her life, not only with her ex-husband, but also big life decisions which make falling for Ronan a little difficult.

This was another quick read for me. It was great seeing the rest of the Connor family again, their dynamic, banter and pure love for each other makes each book a page turner. Ronan and Thea’s relationship were sweet and actually not as complicated as you think it is going to be. Everyone kind of has a place in this book, but it works. Thea was a perfectly, imperfect woman and it was refreshing to read about her story and how she felt growing up as well as her relationship with everyone she meets. Ronan was simply perfect for her, giving her enough push and pull in the relationship and just overall, making their dynamic work.

If you like your romances, sassy, sexy and sweet, then this is a series for you!

EXCERPT

“Okay.” Brandon slaps his hands together and rubs them villainously. “Let’s go get our palms read.”

“In there?” I point to the double-gallery house behind him. There isn’t a sign. There’s a blue neon light in the shape of a palm in the window, and in the middle it says, ‘Palm Readings.’ Nothing else. No business name or anything. If anything, the building gives me the creeps. It’s two blocks over from Bourbon Street, so it isn’t as busy. It’s dark; the only light illuminating the sidewalk is from the blue glow of the sign.

“Look, this place has got to be legit, right? I saw a flyer at the bar,” Brandon protests.

Michelle is grabbing my hand tight and hiding behind me, peeking out from around me. “It looks creepy,” she whispers, just as the wind blows, causing the wind chimes hanging above the doorway to tinkle mysteriously.

I narrow my eyes at the musical instruments creating gorgeous high-pitched tunes, but the closer I look at them and the more my eyes adjust to the night, I begin to notice something off about them. I take a step forward, the porch groaning as I step onto it.

“What are you doing?” Michelle hisses to keep her voice low so no one inside hears us.

Doubtful, since no one seems to be here.

“How have we lived in New Orleans all this time and not done this? I’m excited.” Brandon goes to knock, but I grab his wrist before he can.

“Because locals fucking know better. Either you dive into the real shit or you don’t. Tourists don’t care,” I explain.

I keep my arm stretched out to keep Michelle behind me. Something feels off. I look around noticing no one else around. The upbeat jazz music has faded in the distance, but the cheers of drunk people can still be heard.

The clonks of hooves tap against the road, which has me turning my head to see a horse and carriage. The loud wail of the chimes rings again, bringing my attention back to the odd shapes. Are those… my eyes widen when I finally see what I think they are.

“Oh my god, are those bones?” I reach up to touch them to see if maybe they feel real, but Michelle stops me.

“Don’t you dare. If they are bones, you could catch something…”

“They aren’t real. Come on.” Brandon runs his finger over what looks like a ribcage. “It’s supposed to be spooky. Gives it the ‘real feel.’”

“Your friend is right, mon cher.” An old woman’s Cajun accent has us all jumping and taking a step back.

When the hell did she open the door?

“‘Dem bones are from a cat. Don’t worry. It was already dead. Did not want to let it go to waste.” She rings the chimes by pulling the spine that sways in the middle and runs it across the ribs to create more music.

Honestly, now all I hear are sad meows.

AUTHOR BIO

K.L. Savage decided they were tired of looking for the kind of books they wanted to read. They had an itch that needed to be scratched, and as every girl knows, nothing scratches better than an alpha.

They write about gritty, alpha males, sometimes their dark sides, and the women they love.
If you have the same itch, their alpha males should fix that.

Review: The Offer - Becca Steele

The Offer The Offer by Becca Steele
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Offer by Becca Steele is book one in the London Player series. The book is a quick read novella which focuses on the characters, Jake and Victoria. Jake is a rugby player with a bit of a short temper and is getting a lot of flak for losing said temper on the field and Victoria is a recent divorcee trying to make it on her own in a society which can often be cruel and a mother who just won’t let up.

The two are pushed together to try and help each other’s reputation. I loved the fact that it wasn’t an instant fix relationship and that Victoria held her own against the often brooding and mixed messages of Jake. There are some funny moments in the book as well as some heartfelt, sexy scenes between the two, with some added banter in to make it a good solid read.

This is definitely different from other novels I have read by Ms. Steele. But if you want to wile away a few hours with a cute and sexy read, then this is the one for you.

Review: Mafia King - Rachel Van Dyken

Mafia King Mafia King by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Mafia King is the new novella by Rachel Van Dyken in the 1001 Dark Nights anthology. For me this was a one-click purchase and I wasn’t disappointed. Mafia King tells the story of Tank and Kartini ‘Tiny’. Kartini is the oldest daughter of Sergio (who we’ve met in previous novels) and although one of the younger siblings, she feels like she doesn’t fit in with either adults or the children. That is until one night she has to make a decision which will change the course of her life.

Tank also has to start making decisions. Is he going to be part of the Family or the FBI? He has also sworn to protect Tiny, not a small feat, especially when her snarkiness and need for self-destruction seems to be everywhere he turns. He also can’t deny the attraction that he has for her, even though he continues to fight her wily ways.

Together both Tank and Tiny just make this story, they are so suited for one another. The book has enough actions, drama and passion to keep you turning the pages. The rest of the family are here too to add their opinion as well as letting us see what they are up too. The only downside to this novella is how short it is. I would have loved a longer book, but I feel that way about all of Ms. Van Dyken’s novels….there just aren’t enough pages.

Overall, this was a great edition to the Mafia Royals series, and I can’t wait to see whose up next.

Review: Stealing Ronan - Isabel Lucero

Stealing Ronan Stealing Ronan by Isabel Lucero
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Stealing Ronan is a super sweet MM novel by Isabel Lucero. The story is about Lorenzo (Renzo) and his growing infatuation for his sister’s boyfriend, Ronan. Renzo is cocky, self-assured and overly confident. He hasn’t met a guy that he couldn’t get, that is until the preppy looking, quiet and gorgeous Ronan turns up and spins Renzo on his access.

The story follows the two men as their relationship develops (with the help of a snowstorm), whilst Renzo tries to fight the attraction that he has to Ronan as he doesn’t want to hurt his sister. This was a really sweet story with low angst, some sexy times and some sad moments, highlighting the importance of love, acceptance and support when ‘coming out.’

Renzo’s family, including his sister and friends were hilarious at points and supportive as Renzo comes to terms with how he feels about Ronan. This is in comparison to Ronan’s family who are flip side different! Both have a powerful impact to the reader; especially what Ronan’s mum says to him.

If you like your MM books sweet and sexy, then this one is going to hit the spot for you! A good, easy read!

Review: Mercy - K.L. Savage

Mercy Mercy by K.L. Savage
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Mercy is the first book in the new Ruthless Hellhounds series by K.L. Savage and boy is it a heartbreaker. Having read the previous series, you would have been introduced to Mercy and Michelle who are Daphne’s parents. Well, this is their story and it’s going to give you all of the feels!

This book takes us into the past as we see the development of Mercy and Michelle’s relationship, going from friends to something more, which is full of hot and steamy passion. To make the story even more complex are the challenges that are thrown in the way for both of them which shows their strength as a couple and also as individuals. Alas, we know that this story is going to be a heartbreaker, so get your hankies ready as you’re going to need them!

There isn’t too much I can say without giving away the story. Just know that once you start reading, you’re going to binge read this beautifully written book.
