Review: The Lying Tree - Sundae Leighton

The Lying Tree The Lying Tree by Sundae Leighton
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Lying Tree by Sundae Leighton is a M/M contemporary romance read. The story looks at the characters Killian and Matthias. Matthias has been in love with Killian for a long while and even though they have a secret relationship, he believes that Killian is his white knight. That is until he does the unthinkable and breaks Matthias’s heart into small pieces and moves away, leaving Matthias devasted in a small town with small-minded people. Fast forward many years and Killian the rock star is back with really heavy baggage and a world full of hurt, especially when he knows how much he has hurt Matthias and he doesn’t know if he will ever be able to redeem himself.

The story closely follows Killian’s mental health issues as well as his erratic behaviours, his feelings for Matthias and the confusion he has in being honest with himself. Matthias is also going through his own journey of forgiveness when it comes to Killian and whether putting his heart on the line is worth the risk.

The love both characters feel for one another at times is intense and emotional with lots going on and lots as a reader to break down. Whether you love or hate Killian as a character, you’re going to want to know what happens between Killian and Matthias.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Rogue - M.D. Stewart

Rogue Rogue by M.D. Stewart
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Rogue is book one in the Black Dagger MC series by M.D. Stewart. The story focuses on the characters Stevie Anderson and Mac ‘Rogue’ Steele.  Stevie is on the run from a serial killer when she ends up having to stay at Rogue’s house, mainly due to the fact that no one would think to look for her at an MC. Straight away sparks fly between the two characters, and they enter a quick and passionate relationship with Rogue wanting to protect Stevie from the dangers which lurk around every corner. When they are compromised, Rogue and Stevie go on the run whilst trying to stay alive.

I really liked both of the characters in this book. Rogue had just enough alpha-ness in him to be protective and Stevie grew on me throughout the book as she grew stronger in her own abilities to defend herself. There was enough action and intrigue to keep you wanting to turn the pages of the book as well as some good steamy scenes. Overall, a quick and easy read!

Review: Bring Me Back - Kristen Granata

Bring Me Back Bring Me Back by Kristen Granata
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Bring Me Back by Kristen Granata is a wonderful standalone book. The book tells the story of Phoenix Bridges, a young woman who has survived a suicide attempt and is trying to live with her depression whilst figuring out what she wants to do with her life. Moving into her family’s old house in New Jersey, she is introduced to her brooding cop neighbour who literally takes her breath away, but James Russo has his own demons and tragic past which could derail his relationship with Phoenix before it starts.

This was a wonderfully written story which also highlighted mental health issues and the choices that people make as well as other people’s understanding of that. James and Phoenix’s relationship was cute and sexy with some really touching moments. I also particularly liked the relationship that Phoenix had with James’s brother Leo…I would definitely like to read his story.

The book definitely will have some triggers for some readers, but it is wonderfully written with an honest opinion on what it feels like to live with depression. There is a lot of emotions going on in this book; love, anger and humour to name but a few. The chemistry between the characters was hot and there was enough angst and drama to keep you turning the pages to find out what was going to happen. Overall, a wonderful read and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Review: Chosen by a Sinner - Michelle Heard

Chosen by a Sinner Chosen by a Sinner by Michelle Heard
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Chosen by a Sinner is book four in the Sinner series by Michelle Heard. The story looks at the characters Mariya and Luca. Both have mafia backgrounds, Mariya being the mafia princess and looked after by her father and Luca who has worked up the ranks of the Italian Mafia and now is the head of it and the Brotherhood. Both characters have loved each other from afar, but appear aloof to each other, mainly due to miscommunication and assuming what the other is thinking. A drunken birthday night in Las Vegas changes all of that and both of their worlds are turned upside down with the words; husband and wife. But with lots of twists and turns, the path to love isn’t going to be easy for this couple!

This was a great book to read. Mariya and Luca definitely have some chemistry, they just need to figure out what they mean to each other, which is easier said than done in the mafia. There is also action galore in this book and we see what Mariya goes through and her strength in not becoming a victim throughout the book. She definitely has her own personal hero in Luca who will go to the ends of the earth to save her.

This is another wonderful addition to this series and I can’t wait to read more!

Review: Every Time We Touch - J.E. Parker

Every Time We Touch Every Time We Touch by J.E. Parker
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Every Time We Touch is book 5 in the redeeming Love series by J.E. Parker. The story focuses on Kyle and Carissa. Kyle has had a difficult life since the death of his sister, not only does he blame himself, but he feels like his family do too, leaving him a hollow man, that is until he meets Carissa a woman who enthralls him from the start, and he knows that he has to have her.

Carissa looks after her father and sister after her mother’s death. She carries a lot of guilt due to her mother’s death and the financial struggles that the family are going through. But a chance meeting with Kyle puts her on a different path of love and self-discovery whilst growing as a person.

The book jumps three years from Kyle and Carissa meeting, and we see the angst that both characters go through with their families, and they come to terms with their new relationship. Kyle is quite domineering and really wants to look after Carissa (mainly due to his won trauma), but there isn’t any doubt that he loves her! Carissa is also quite naive but seems to follow Kyle without having many doubts. She definitely starts to know herself more as the book progresses.

The book focuses a lot on friendship, forgiveness and self-growth and there are quite a few characters to keep track of throughout the book. If you like your books sweet, with a slow burn theme and some angst, then this is the one for you.

Review: Always the One for Me - Carrie Ann Ryan

Always the One for Me Always the One for Me by Carrie Ann Ryan
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Always the One for Me is book two in ‘The Wilder Brothers’ by Carrie Ann Ryan. The book focuses on the characters Evan and Kendall who meet on the way to Las Vegas and have a whirlwind romance which ends up with them getting married. But life throws them a curveball and after two years of being married, Evan walks away and it could be his biggest regret.

Fast forward numerous years and Kendall works for Evan’s family, and it seems that everywhere she turns Evan is there, being broody and still wanting her yet continuously walking away. Kendall is frightened to put her heart on the line again, but there is just something about Evan that calls to her. When the Walker resort is put into jeopardy and the truth about why Evan walked away comes to light, relationships are going to be put to the test!

This was a beautifully written story with some heart-wrenching moments. Kendall and Evan together just make sense, they make each other whole but sometimes they say and do things which just hurt each other. Time definitely made the heart fonder in this story and also highlights how PTSD can affect a relationship. Sexy scenes between the two characters were steamy as was the added drama of will they/won’t they get together. Secondary characters were also great, and I definitely think that some of them will have their own stories soon! Overall, a really great read!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: The Devil You Know - Veronica Eden

The Devil You Know The Devil You Know by Veronica Eden
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Devil You Know by Veronica Eden is a standalone, contemporary romance about a girl falling for her brother’s best friend. Tate is heading off to college, but before she does, she wants to lose her V card, but not just to any stranger, to the sinfully hot Cooper, who also happens to be her brother’s best friend. But soon both have feelings that they can no longer hide, and emotions get in the way.

This was a very sweet read. Tate and Cooper have off the chart’s chemistry. Tate is also a fun and quirky character with her lists and plans. Cooper definitely upsets all of that but also makes her live a little. Cooper is also very much the boy next door, but he is a genuinely sweet character who doesn’t want to hurt Tate and tries his best to do the right thing. There’s only a little bit of drama in this book compared to other books by Ms. Eden, but it is well worth the read!

There’s a lot of steam between the two characters which keep the pages turning in this book. Both characters are well suited and bring out the best in each other. Definitely a good book to while away some hours!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Inked Temptation - Carrie Ann Ryan

Inked Temptation Inked Temptation by Carrie Ann Ryan
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Inked Temptation by Carrie Ann Ryan is part of the Montgomery Ink/Fort Collins series and focuses on the characters Killian and Archer. Archer is at a loss in his life after his divorce and feeling like he is putting on a brave face for his family. That is until he meets Killian, his gruff and tragic neighbour who doesn’t want anything to do with him…at least in the beginning. As the two slowly become neighbours, then friends, that friendship develops into more. But the past of both men may hinder there budding relationship if they both can’t let go of the past and look towards the future.

Both Killian and Archer have sad pasts. Killian’s more so with the loss of his family and the guilt that he carries with him because of that. At times he can be quite abrupt with Archer, but you know it comes from a place of hurt. He definitely has instant feelings for Archer, and we see the guilt of that throughout the beginning of the group. Self-forgiveness for Killian is a really important part of this book.

Archer is trying to find his place in his family again. We get some background information regarding his relationship with his father and other siblings throughout the book, but at times it just feels as though he lives in his head a lot and doesn’t let his family in too much. Both men are risking their hearts for each other and are definitely well suited. We see their relationship grow throughout the book and it really is a sweet story! Another well written book from a great series!
