Review: You Can Run - Rebecca Zanetti

You Can Run You Can Run by Rebecca Zanetti
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

You Can Run by Rebecca Zanetti is a fast-paced suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat! The story centres around Laurel Snow an FBI Special Agent and child prodigy who is a little quirky, finds it difficult to relate to people and is brilliant at her job! When dead bodies are found in her hometown of Genesis Valley, WA. She is called home to investigate. Back home under the care of her anxious mother she meets Huck Rivers, a Fish and Wildlife Officer who becomes part of the investigation, rather reluctantly. He also has his own story and even though he is attracted to the quirky Laurel, he is careful to set up boundaries…rather grumpily! Together they both must work against the clock and others within the community to stop the killer before his kill list gets bigger.

This was a thrilling book with some great characters! Laurel is strong but also vulnerable as she tries to relate to the people around her as well as decipher her feelings about Huck. She has a lot of questioning thoughts throughout the story which was relatable, and I loved that she had to keep wearing her mother’s clothes (a light-hearted moment within the book). The chemistry between her and Huck was great, and I enjoyed finding out more about the characters as the book went on. Huck is gruff but with his background you understand why he is the way he is. He also lives alone with his dog and seems to be a little bit ostracised from the community he is in, even though he is brilliant at his job. As the book moves along, he becomes more human, especially when it comes to how he feels for Laurel and how he desperately wants to catch the killer!

The suspense in this story was killer. I had no idea what we were going to get at the end. I will say that Abigail Caine is pure crazy, and it will be interesting to see where she ends up in future books as well as finding out other things she has done for her narcissistic self.

Overall, a brilliant, suspenseful book with a little bit of romance thrown in. This story will definitely have you hooked from the first to the last page!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Review: Cut Wide Open - Abby McCarthy

Cut Wide Open Cut Wide Open by Abby McCarthy
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Cut Wide Open by Abby McCarthy is book one in the Bleeding Scars MC series and boy is it an emotional read! It tells the story of Charlie ‘Mouse’ and Gunner. Mouse lives on the periphery, being a young girl in foster care, she has no voice and spends her days watching the formidable Gunner. We see through her young eyes as she sees Gunner’s life change, their relationship develops into something more and then ultimately Gunner’s disappearance when Mouse needs him the most. Fast forward years later when Mouse is a young mother trying to make ends meet, only to catch the eye of a sadistic man who will do anything to keep her as his pet!

This was quite an emotional story to read, especially when we see what Mouse has gone through, both in her young life and as an adult. She has had to endure the worst that humanity has to offer. I think what made it a little bit harder was the fact that Gunner made an assumption about her to begin with which kind of spiralled what happened to Mouse. I did enjoy how Gunner always said that Mouse belonged to him and how he looked after their son when Mouse couldn’t.

This is a story about enduring, and boy does the main female character endure a lot at the hands of someone who was purely sadistic. At times the story was hard to read due to Mouse’s trauma, but it was also filled with love and an MC that would do anything for Mouse. Gunner was at times really intense but as we heard more of his story, we found out why he was that way and how he was betrayed by someone he called ‘family’.

Overall, a really good, heart wrenching MC story! Note: There are some dark elements in this book which may trigger some readers!

Review: Black Skies Riviera - Catherine Wiltcher

Black Skies Riviera Black Skies Riviera by Catherine Wiltcher
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Black Skies Riviera by Catherine Wiltcher is an arranged marriage, mafia romance which focuses on the characters Issa and Aiden. Issa is a Bratva Princess, who is put into a situation where she is expected to marry Aiden so that he can get answers on who killed his parents. Both of them seem to have an instant hate for each other and both have secrets which they are unwilling to share, mainly due to the fact that it could lead them both into danger.

Aiden sees Issa as nothing more than a pawn, but as he gets to know her more, he knows that not everything is what it seems and that he is merely another player on the gameboard. As he gets to know her, he sees underneath the veneer that she shows to the rest of the world and sees the strong and passionate woman that she is and what she has sacrificed to keep her sister safe!

There is definitely an instant attraction between both of the characters, and everything seems to happen fast in the story. There isn’t too much drama between the main characters but more so from outside forces which show the ugly side of the mafia and how everyone is out to get each other for more power! Aiden and Issa are definitely manipulated throughout the book and there are some ugly characters and reasons for them doing what they did.

Overall, a good mafia series with some strong characters!

Review: Billions: A Constantine Boxed Set - K. Webster, M. O'Keefe & Becker Gray

Billions: A Constantine Boxed Set Billions: A Constantine Boxed Set by K. Webster
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Billions: A Constantine Box Set sees three authors: K. Webster, M. O’Keefe and Becker Grey come together with three full length novels. The stories are set in the Midnight Dynasty world and are interconnected with a lot of suspense, intrigue and sexy times!

Stroke of Midnight by K. Webster is a retold Cinderella story with a lot of twist, turns focusing on a very powerful, downright dirty and controlling man Winston and a young girl called Ash, who is doing everything she can to survive and leave her ‘step-family’ behind! The things Winston makes her do are twisted and sexy and will keep you turning the pages! The story ends on a cliff-hanger, but it is definitely worth the read!

Ruined by M. O’Keefe is a story which focuses on a young woman who is forced to marry and older and abusive Senator. With his death comes a lot of unanswered questions and danger and they young woman must figure out who friend or foe is. Throw into the mix, the mysterious Roman and you have a book filled of suspense and intrigue, never quite knowing what is going to happen!

Wicked Idol by Becker Gray is an absolute page turner! Focusing on good girl Iris and King of the school, Keaton, this story is going to keep you on the edge of your seat. Enemies to lovers, steamy scenes and raw vulnerability. This is one you’re definitely going to want to read!

Altogether, these three stories make up a great collection and leave you wanting to read more by all three authors!

Review: Wraith - Franca Storm

Wraith Wraith by Franca Storm
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Wraith by Franca Storm is book one in the Iron Kings MC series. The book tells the story of Finn and Ashley. Finn aka Wraith lives like a ghost, trying to stay of the grid as much as possible after an incident in his former life nearly took his life and left him scarred. It is only when his old MC brother comes looking for him with help in protecting his daughter that Finn has to come out of hiding and put himself out on a limb again without waking the monster in him that he keeps tightly under wraps.

Ashley is a former MC princess, after the death of her mother and her overbearing MC President father trying to take over her life, she is trying to make it on her own as a tattoo artist. That is until Finn  makes a reappearance in her life. The one man that she can’t stop thinking about and who she helped heal from his terrible injuries many years before. If only he would see her as more than just a pest! Now she is forced to leave her well fought freedom behind and put her trust in Finn and the MC that she tried to leave behind.

This book is full of action, not only with the MC itself but also with Ashley and Finn trying to navigate their feelings for each other. They are both quite stubborn, but Finn definitely needs to open his eyes to Ashley a bit more and see that she isn’t scared of his monster! She is tough and sweet and certainly balances out the darker side of Finn. The two of them together is explosive! Even with the danger they face, they do it together. I particularly enjoyed that Finn is a dark hero and makes no apologies for it, even when he finds that he can’t always get the blood off his hands.

This was a great start to a new series for me and I can’t wait to read more from this author! The book is suspenseful, dark at times and passionate. A great addition to the MC genre.

Review: Hawk - Kimberly I. Belle

Hawk Hawk by Kimberly I. Belle
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Hawk is book one in the Blazing Saints MC series by Kimberly I. Belle. The story looks at the characters Hawk and Hannah. Hannah is running away from  her previous life under the rule of an abusive boyfriend, who has left her emotionally, physically and sexually scarred. Running to her cousin for sanctuary she comes across the Blazing Saints and more importantly Hawk, the President of the MC who takes one look at Hannah and knows that he not only wants to protect her, but also make her his!

The story has a lot going on in it, especially with things that happen to Hannah along the way ( a stronger woman would have been broken!) And do be warned that there could be triggers for some readers. But, saying that along the way, Hawk and the rest of his MC are on Hannah’s side, trying to keep her safe, not only form a rival MC, but also from her ex that is intent on causing havoc in her life.

Hawk is a domineering, hard man who wants to do right by his club and sometimes that means meeting violence with violence. Even though he doesn’t want it to touch Hannah, sometimes it does as this is the way with the MC. He also has a softer side when it comes to Hannah and her needs and helps her to build her confidence and strength after everything that has happened to her.

Scenes between the characters were very good and it was a good introduction into a new series. And there was some good tension between the Blazing Saints and their rival MC which kept you turning the pages.

Review: Mac - Rachel Lyn Adams

Mac Mac by Rachel Lyn Adams
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Mac by Rachel Lyn Adams is book one in the Desert Sinners MC series. The story focuses on Kate and Mac. Kate has had a hard life with the death of her mother and now her grandmother. She is left with her cruel uncle who quickly tosses her out, with no place to go, only a letter from her mother can help her to put her on a new path…to finding her father. On her new journey Kate comes across the Desert Sinners MC, a club that her father belongs to as well as the domineering Mac who is given the task of looking after her. The only problem is that Kate is off limits!

This was a quick read due to the story being quite fast flowing. There is definitely an instant attraction between the two characters which is nice as well as Kate getting to know her father too. There is a little bit of drama in the story, but it mostly focuses on Kate becoming part of the MC life and getting to know her father and Mac better. It was definitely more of a sweet read than and angsty and gritty MC read, but overall, it was good.

Review: Loyalty In the Shadows - Veronica Eden

Loyalty In the Shadows Loyalty In the Shadows by Veronica Eden
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Loyalty in the Shadows is book 2 in the Crowned Crows series by Veronica Eden and boy is it a page turner! The story focuses on the characters Isla and Levi. Isla is not who everyone thinks she is. A fashionista with a quick wit who hides a terrible secret behind her easy-going façade. When someone tries to kidnap her, it is her reluctant hero Levi that steps in and it takes her down a path that she can’t escape….right into the path of the Crows.

Levi is one scary dude! Underneath his mask is a monster that will do anything to protect his brothers. He doesn’t have time for some one like Isla who comes with her own secrets but who is also his own personal obsession. To make matters worse, a secret group seems to be out to get the Crow’s and are leaving breadcrumbs and destruction in their wake!

I would say that you have to read the first book in this series to understand what is going on and to know the characters and who they are/what they do a little better. But this book definitely focuses on the growing relationship of Levi and Isla more than anything else. Isla was a great character to read about, even with everything that she has been through/going through, she is still a wonderfully bright person who sees both the monster and the hero in Levi (something that he definitely needs). I love how she embraced both sides of him as she and the rest of the Crows go on their suspenseful adventure. Throwing Levi and Isla together was just pure perfection…and one that Levi couldn’t fight for too long!

This book is darkly seductive. Levi and Isla together are steamy and dark and will leave you wanting more. The storyline doesn’t give much away, and you’re left with another epic cliff-hanger at the end, but boy are you going to enjoy the ride with this one. Be warned, there may be triggers for some readers!

Review: Decker's Dilemma - Chantal Fernando

Decker's Dilemma Decker's Dilemma by Chantal Fernando
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Decker’s Dilemma by Chantal Fernando looks at the characters Cara and Decker. Decker used to be a policeman, but things have changed and his new job as a PI and tracking down a half sister throws him into the path of MC Princess Cara. Schoolteacher Cara thought she had her life all planned out, but as we know, not everything goes to plan, especially when you want something more from life than just the ordinary. When Cara meets Decker, it may not be the best time, but that doesn’t mean that she isn’t going to go with her instincts and get to know the man a little better…no matter what trouble gets thrown her way!

I really enjoyed the mix of MC’s in this book/ Wind Dragons and The Knights Fury. If you’ve read previous books by Chantal Fernando, you’re going to see some old favourites pop up and they totally add to the story! Decker and Cara also just work as characters, they bring out the best in each other and definitely have some instant-attraction going on. Even though Decker is painted as a ladies’ man, when he meets Cara, he just knows that she is the one for him.

As this is the start to a new series, there is a lot going on with some well-placed action, passion and some great characters. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Review: Merciless Kings - Becca Steele & C. Lymari

Merciless Kings Merciless Kings by Becca Steele
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Merciless Kings by Becca Steel & C. Lymari is book one in the Boneyard Kings and boy is it going to keep you gripped until the end. The story focuses on the characters Everly, a young woman who is under her uncle’s care after the death of her parents. Back at college she falls onto the radar of the Boneyard Kings: Callum, Mateo and Saint. Three boys who have their own secrets and stories to tell and sadly unbeknownst to Everly, she is right in the middle of their cat and mouse game.

This story is full of twist and turns as Everly becomes more intrenched in the steamy games that the men want to play with her and even though we never quite find out what they want with her, there is certainly a lot of action to keep us guessing what happened. We also get snippets of the young men’s lives throughout the book and how they ended up as the Boneyard Kings.

I really enjoy a book when you can’t figure out if the characters are good or bad and that is definitely what you get with the Boneyard Kings. Although they want to make Everly pay for something, there is still a part of them that wants her unconditionally to bend to their will and I loved that she was feisty enough to question what they were doing! There is also a certain vulnerability about all three of the men and it will be interesting to see where that leads in the next book.

Be warned, with the twist and turns in this book, you’re going to be left with more questions than answers, but it is a trilogy! Also be warned that there is an epic cliff-hanger on the end. Now I am twiddling my thumbs until the next book comes out.

Review: Clearwater's Savior: Wrath MC - Tiffany Casper

Clearwater's Savior: Wrath MC Clearwater's Savior: Wrath MC by Tiffany Casper
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Clearwater’s Savior is book one in the Wrath MC:  Mountain of Clearwater series by new author to me Tiffany Casper. The book looks at the characters Novalie and Kane. Novalie keeps under the radar and seems to be overlooked by everyone, especially her mother and stepfather. She is barely surviving in the harsh world of the MC, that is until she comes onto the radar of Kane the President of the Wrath MC, and he realises what is going on and how she is being treated. To say that he was disgusted not only by her parents and the MC’s behaviour but also by his own behaviour of someone who is classed as his family is an understatement. He then goes out of his way to protect what is his, even though he is fighting the age difference between him and Novalie as well as other things that are going on in and outside of the club.

I really enjoyed this MC novel and could certainly overlook some of the editing errors (it happens). I enjoyed the age-gap between the two characters and although their attraction was instantaneous, it felt real and genuine. There were times that you really felt for Novalie, and she was a little bit too forgiving, but that seemed to be her nature! Kane was your typical President, hard on the outside and squishy in the middle, especially when it came to Novalie and his feelings for her. Scenes were steamy between the two characters and the jokes they played on each other were hilarious. The introduction to other MC characters was good and I can’t wait to delve into their stories. Overall, a good MC read for me!

Review: The Shattered Tower - Jenn Stark

The Shattered Tower The Shattered Tower by Jenn Stark
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

This is it, the last book (maybe) of the brilliant Wilde Justice series by Jenn Stark. The story follows Sara Wilde as she again takes on the Shadow Council in a final battle of skills, wit and determination to save the Connected of this world before it is too late! But this time no-one is safe and those closest to Sara are put in the crosshairs and not everyone will survive!

I don’t want to give too much away other than you have to go and read this book to see what happens…in fact you need to go and read the whole series and get immersed in Sara and the rest of the gang! Hopefully we may see a spinoff series with a few of the characters! Another great read! I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Stark is going to give us in the New Year!

Review: Wrecking Ball - Lindsey Powell

Wrecking Ball Wrecking Ball by Lindsey Powell
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Wrecking Ball by Lindsey Powell is a fast-paced romance. It tells the story of Nate and Kat. Kat is forced to marry Nate as a way to pay off her debt to him, but she isn’t going to go down easy and makes sure that Nate knows that she is no weakling. Nate is a crime lord and as soon as he sees Kat, he knows that he has to have her, even if he has to destroy her first to gain her love and trust.

The story is told from both characters POV and we see what leads them to the point of no return. I enjoyed the fact that Kat had a sailor’s mouth on her and used it against Nate at any opportunity that she could, just because she knew it annoyed him! Nate is also deliciously dominant, but we see the kindness he treats Kat with multiple times, especially when someone tries to take her from him!

This was a wonderfully written book with wonderful characters, who are both their own ‘wrecking balls’, knocking down each other’s walls and letting each other in. Scenes are steamy between the two and there are some darker elements which add to the story of how these two characters become one! A good enjoyable read. This book is a standalone.
