Bring Me Back by Kristen Granata is a wonderful
standalone book. The book tells the story of Phoenix Bridges, a young woman who
has survived a suicide attempt and is trying to live with her depression whilst
figuring out what she wants to do with her life. Moving into her family’s old
house in New Jersey, she is introduced to her brooding cop neighbour who
literally takes her breath away, but James Russo has his own demons and tragic
past which could derail his relationship with Phoenix before it starts.
This was a wonderfully written story which also
highlighted mental health issues and the choices that people make as well as
other people’s understanding of that. James and Phoenix’s relationship was cute
and sexy with some really touching moments. I also particularly liked the
relationship that Phoenix had with James’s brother Leo…I would definitely like
to read his story.
The book definitely will have some triggers for some readers, but it is wonderfully written with an honest opinion on what it feels like to live with depression. There is a lot of emotions going on in this book; love, anger and humour to name but a few. The chemistry between the characters was hot and there was enough angst and drama to keep you turning the pages to find out what was going to happen. Overall, a wonderful read and I can’t wait to read more from this author!
