Review: Brutal & Raw - Sonya Jesus

Brutal & Raw Brutal & Raw by Sonya Jesus
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars

Brutal & Raw is the first book in the Beneventi family series by Sonya Jesus and boy is it a dark read. Told from the point of view of main characters Lyla Vaughn, also know as number 327 and Breaker Beneventi. Lyla is caught up in a trafficking ring and catches the eye of Breaker who starts to develop feelings for her, but this is definitely a game of cat and mouse and Breaker can’t be seen as having feelings or having a favourite. We see this story develop from Lyla’s escape from not only break but also the Butcher (psycho) as well as how she got caught in the web and the horrific things that happen to her.

This is certainly a dark story so be aware that this might not be the story for you and it can be quite graphic and horrific in places. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story which leaves you guessing and it ends on a cliff-hanger. There is a lot of family drama, past experience drama and the story isn’t as simple as you think it is going to be. The bad guy certainly is a bad guy and one that you don’t see much redemption for and don’t necessarily agree with his treatment of female characters…but I guess that is also the point of the book.

This is definitely a darker read then I would normally read but it could totally be your thing. Be warned that there could be some triggering moments for other readers and should definitely be read by mature readers.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
