Review: The Rise of Monsters - Brianna Jean

The Rise of Monsters The Rise of Monsters by Brianna Jean
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Rise of Monsters is book one from newly published author Brianna Jean and boy is it a unique and splendidly dark book. Focusing on the strong, determined character of Annalise, an underground street fighter who has been through a lot in her life. Trying to get a grip on her anger and strength, she comes across Lanier, Gabe and Quint, men who are playing a game they don’t quite understand but know that Annalise is in the middle. But not everything is what it seems and all the characters have to learn some truths about who they are, the powers they wield and the bonds they have.

This was a decidedly different reverse harem book in that the main character (Annalise) is up front about what she wants and it isn’t love and a relationship. She is definitely a gritty character who doesn’t instantly fall in love with her men and certainly wants to know more about them and what they want from her.

They boys are quite similar in that they somewhat understand the bonds they have with Annalise but don’t know how it’s possible. As with most reverse harem books the steamy scenes are delicious and add to the overall character development. As a first book by a new author, the pacing and story-line is wonderful and leaves you wanting to read more (there is a second book coming! Whoop whoop) and I particularly like that she has shown all of the characters to have good and bad traits. Defining moments of the characters background were really important in this book and helped to give a more rounded view of the characters. If you like reverse harem-s with a little bit of something different, then I would recommend picking up this book as you won’t be disappointed.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
