Review: Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta

Hidden Blade Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐stars

Pippa DaCosta is an amazing Urban Fantasy novelist whose books just suck you in. I would recommend any of her series that she has written as each one is uniquely different from each other. The Soul Eater series is one of my favourites mainly due to the fact that it has the right mix of mythology, real life action and angst that just makes an extremely good read.

Ace Dante is a cursed God…he eats souls… from the Egyptian underworld and is under the command of Osiris and his wife, Isis (who comes across as a bit of a psycho…just saying). Enter Ace's ex wife, Baset (Queen of cats), Alysdair (a soul-eating sword) and a variety of other secondary characters and you have a story full of action.

Ace is a private detective who has been asked to help his ex wife, Baset as someone is killing her blessed women whilst being in between what feels like a domestic battle between Osiris and Isis. Osiris holds Ace’s curse, so he pretty much has to do what is asked of him even if Ace skirts around the good/evilness of being someone’s puppet. Ace is also bound to Shu who he definitely has a love hate relationship with and it seems for most of the book, he’s watching over his shoulder to see if she is going to betray him.

Ace in all of his glory is definitely an anti-hero who is just trying to survive his new life and it seems like he has a lot of roadblocks in the way….not only made by the ones he creates himself! The Egyptian mythology that is in this book is extensive, impressive and awe-inspiring. It really sucks you in and leaves you wanting more. The ending is left open and I would recommend that you start from book 1 as to understand characters and roles in later books. It’s a fast-paced read that you won’t want to put down. Enjoy!
