Review: Nero by Sarah Brianne

Nero Nero by Sarah Brianne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love the whole Made Men series by Sarah Brianne, but I have to admit that the first one, Nero is definitely my favourite. Nero is set around Nero, the King of Legacy Prep and Elle, the punching bag of the same school. Nero wants to be a ‘Made Man’ like his father and is put in charge of finding out what Elle knows when she sees something she shouldn’t. Elle just wants to survive school. Here begins the adventure; Made Men; a brother to die for; strong women who are more courageous than they should be and some amazingly sexy scenes.

The relationships are really important in this book and something that the next books in this series build upon. We see how Nero’s relationship with Elle develops and how he starts seeing what makes her the woman she is. The information you get about what Elle suffers both at school and at home is quite affronting and at times you can’t believe that she has survived such abuses. Throughout all of the wrongness about her situation, Elle is still a good friend to Chloe (how that friendship grows is saddening and amazing all at once), a hard worker and won’t put up with Nero’s or Lucca’s crap.

Nico is the quintessential male; strong, domineering, sexy and a little bit arrogant, but who wouldn’t be with his background. He is a powerhouse of an alpha with a filthy mouth and a take no prisoner attitude. When reading about him, you don’t necessarily see him as a high school senior but a more mature adult. I would be intrigued to see a short story written about him later on in life to see if he has the same characters traits, but just a bit more matured.

I really loved all of the background information of the characters you got in this book and there was a small part of me that enjoyed that the bullies got their comeuppance as they truly did deserve it!

Overall, as a mafia style book, Sarah Brianne is one to watch, she brings vibrancy, sexiness and a filthy mouth to this genre. It is a great YA novel and having read the rest of the books in this series and waiting with baited breath for more, I can’t recommend Sarah Brianne enough.
