Review: Vendetta by Catherine Doyle

Vendetta Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars

This is a very exciting YA Mafia book which I initially borrowed from the library. Sophie Gracewell is an ordinary girl, well except for the fact that her father is in prison for killing someone, her elusive uncle who runs the family diner continues to disappear when he wants and her mother is barely holding onto her emotional sanity. To add it Sophie’s ordinary life, five mysterious brothers move into an abandoned mansion in the town where she is living….this is where the intrigue begins. Who are these brothers and what secrets do they hide?

This is a story about forbidden love, family secrets and hidden truths. It is a well written story which takes a little while to get into, mainly due to the amount of characters and because you don’t know why Sophie’s father went to jail until ¾ of the way through the book. It’s a pretty simple mafia story which really centres on vengeance and what happens to those caught in the middle.

Sophie as a character is really enjoyable. She is feisty and sassy and certainly won’t take any crap from the Falcone brothers and watching her relationship with both Nic and Luca develop was intriguing, as you’re left with a love triangle feeling by the end of the book and wondering which one Sophie will choose in the end. Millie, Sophie’s best friend is also hilarious and a really great addition to the book. We all wish we had a best friend like Millie!

This book ends on a cliff-hanger so you will definitely have to continue the saga to see how everything ties together and to see how the drama unfolds.
