Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐stars
Pippa DaCosta is an amazing Urban Fantasy novelist whose books just suck you in. I would recommend any of her series that she has written as each one is uniquely different from each other. The Soul Eater series is one of my favourites mainly due to the fact that it has the right mix of mythology, real life action and angst that just makes an extremely good read.
Ace Dante is a cursed God…he eats souls… from the Egyptian underworld and is under the command of Osiris and his wife, Isis (who comes across as a bit of a psycho…just saying). Enter Ace's ex wife, Baset (Queen of cats), Alysdair (a soul-eating sword) and a variety of other secondary characters and you have a story full of action.
Ace is a private detective who has been asked to help his ex wife, Baset as someone is killing her blessed women whilst being in between what feels like a domestic battle between Osiris and Isis. Osiris holds Ace’s curse, so he pretty much has to do what is asked of him even if Ace skirts around the good/evilness of being someone’s puppet. Ace is also bound to Shu who he definitely has a love hate relationship with and it seems for most of the book, he’s watching over his shoulder to see if she is going to betray him.
Ace in all of his glory is definitely an anti-hero who is just trying to survive his new life and it seems like he has a lot of roadblocks in the way….not only made by the ones he creates himself! The Egyptian mythology that is in this book is extensive, impressive and awe-inspiring. It really sucks you in and leaves you wanting more. The ending is left open and I would recommend that you start from book 1 as to understand characters and roles in later books. It’s a fast-paced read that you won’t want to put down. Enjoy!

Review: Hear Me Out by Lila Rose
Hear Me Out by Lila Rose
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐stars
Hear me Out is another great novel by Lila Rose. If you have been following Hawks MC, you would have come across Maddox ‘Beast’ Lawson and Jay ‘Knife’ Conger before and now they have their own story.
Beast has a past of being ridiculed for how he speaks and now fate has taken an even bigger bite out of him and he has lost his hearing. To make matters worse, he’s has to continue seeing the man who did a runner on him after a one night stand…..Knife. It doesn’t matter that they are in the same MC; Beast is going to try and avoid Knife at all costs.
Knife is the epitome of man-whore. He likes women and lots of them….or does he? After the amaze-balls one night stand he had with Beast throws him for a loop, Knife is left questioning who he is. Just as he thinks he knows what’s going on, he is thrown his own curve-ball and a lot of drama ensues.
I really loved this book as I have the others by Lila Rose; she just seems to get how people feel and that comes through in her writing. Beast and Knife's past and present are both heartbreaking and powerful as they both have been through so much independently, as friends and then finally as lovers. There is definitely a lot of growth between the two characters, especially when it comes to miscommunication as well as misunderstandings on both parts. Knife is definitely the more outgoing of the two main characters, but there is something about Beast and his journey to where he is now that is actually quite inspiring.
Scenes between the two men were beautiful and well written and it was great reading about other characters from the MC. This is definitely an author to read if you like angst, love, relationships and honesty. A fantastic read!

Review: Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars
This is a very exciting YA Mafia book which I initially borrowed from the library. Sophie Gracewell is an ordinary girl, well except for the fact that her father is in prison for killing someone, her elusive uncle who runs the family diner continues to disappear when he wants and her mother is barely holding onto her emotional sanity. To add it Sophie’s ordinary life, five mysterious brothers move into an abandoned mansion in the town where she is living….this is where the intrigue begins. Who are these brothers and what secrets do they hide?
This is a story about forbidden love, family secrets and hidden truths. It is a well written story which takes a little while to get into, mainly due to the amount of characters and because you don’t know why Sophie’s father went to jail until ¾ of the way through the book. It’s a pretty simple mafia story which really centres on vengeance and what happens to those caught in the middle.
Sophie as a character is really enjoyable. She is feisty and sassy and certainly won’t take any crap from the Falcone brothers and watching her relationship with both Nic and Luca develop was intriguing, as you’re left with a love triangle feeling by the end of the book and wondering which one Sophie will choose in the end. Millie, Sophie’s best friend is also hilarious and a really great addition to the book. We all wish we had a best friend like Millie!
This book ends on a cliff-hanger so you will definitely have to continue the saga to see how everything ties together and to see how the drama unfolds.

Review: Lethal by Cassandra Robbins
Lethal by Cassandra Robbins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Cassandra Robbins is a new author for me and her novel was certainly different from a few other MC novels that I’ve read. Lethal is the first book in this MC romance about The Disciples which focuses on the MC’s leader Blade ‘Jason’ McCormick. Blade isn’t a nice guy and this is something he repeatedly says throughout the book. He is ruthless, sometimes cruel and has to make hard decisions, like the decision of taking Eve as collateral when her brother and father can’t pay a dept that they owe the Disciples.
Eve as a character is really young, and sometimes she comes across as really immature and manipulative. But on the flip side you can understand why she is like this with the hand she has been dealt; dead mother, a father who is sick and a drug addicted brother.
Blade/Jason is an ex-Navy Seal who is older than Eve and doesn’t believe in monogamy (something which he tells Eve throughout the book). Although a sexy, alpha male, there are times in the book when he can be quite cruel to Eve due to her lack of education and thinking that she has lied to him about certain things about herself.
Together the characters blend quite well together and the author definitely shows a harsher side of an MC, rather than a ‘rose tinted glasses’ view that you sometimes see from other authors. This is a really promising MC series and it will be interesting to see the development of other characters and how the MC life will play a role in that.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Review: Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh
Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If you’ve been reading the Psy-Changeling Series like I have, you always knew that Wolf Rain was going to be epic. Silence has fallen and it was meant to have created a better world to live in for everyone but alliances between the Psy, Changelings and Humans is fractured and there seems to be worse problems now then when Silence was working. For the Psy to exist they need to figure out their issues within the Psy-web and it seems only Melody can help them do that.
Melody is a Psy who has been imprisoned for most of her life and is rescued by Alexei, a growly wolf Changeling from the SnowDancer Pack. Here the story begins. Nalini Singh takes you on a wild ride through the forests of SnowDancer Territory to the streets of San Francisco whilst roping you into an intense story of love, loss and strength that comes from both Memory and Andrei. Memory has to grow into an independent, strong, sassy woman who has her own identity and realise her own strengths. Andrei needs to look to the future and what it may bring, whilst healing from a devastating betrayal in the past. He is sexy, proud and fierce and together these two characters really complement each other. I have to say that I loved the scenes where Alexei was leaving Memory food.
Memory and Andrei were really well written characters and you could feel the angst that both of them were working through as well as the surprise that they have found each other. You see both of the characters development as the story unfolds and there are numerous twists and turns that leave you wondering what is going to happen next in the book.
As always other characters from the series pop up and there are numerous POV throughout the book which not only add to the story but give you more information on what might go on in other books and also leaves you guessing on which characters might be telling their story next. The plot is always twisting and turning and the writing is beautifully descriptive that you sometimes feel like you can touch parts of the scenery.
Nalini Singh books are binge worthy books and if you haven’t started this series you need to go out and do that now. These books are a riveting read!

Review: Dead to Me by Lisa Emme
Dead to Me by Lisa Emme
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love the Harry Russo series by Lisa Emme…I just wish there was more of the series as once you read one, you want to keep reading.
The Harry Russo series focuses on Harry, a half vampire witch who also has the power to raise the dead! ‘Dead to Me’ sees Harry making a comeback after being injured in a previous book and on her tail is trouble, which constantly seems to be following her around. From a cat burglar, to a crow stealing things, magic, mayhem and her father thrown into the loop, it's any wonder that Harry has time to have coffee and cake.
Harry is a well written character, she is strong and sassy. Just how I like my female leads and although Nash is in this book albeit in a lesser sense than most books and definitely more moodier, this time he may have to work a little harder to keep Harry’s affections and it will definitely be interesting to see how this third character will affect their relationship overall!
I really love the plots in this book and the writing just flows which make it a really enjoyable, easy read urban paranormal book. If you haven’t read any of this series, I can tell you that you are going to binge read 1 through 5.
If you love paranormal, feisty, action packed reads. Then the Harry Russo books are for you!

Review: Sofie's Boys by Jenika Snow
Sofie's Boys by Jenika Snow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book was an okay read for me, in that I didn’t really have to think about it overly much. The story centres on Sofie who has a relationship with both Ryker (who she has known since she was young) and Jareth (an older man). The relationships are quite separate from each other and we see Sofie balance three days each with both of them and then a day off to herself. Basically this story centres on how Sofie handles being in a relationship with two men, how she is going to choose between them if she can and what other people might think. Interspersed between the story is Ryker and Jareth’s point of view, but they basically come across as being happy with the situation as long as Sofie is.
It is definitely a short read and quite different from other Jenika Snow books that I have read in the sense that there really isn’t that much drama. Sexy scenes are hot, if not a little bit safe. Sofie seems to have a lot of support not only in her two men, but also in her mom (again, everything is quite sweet and tied in a bow) and the story sort of begins in the middle of the relationships, so there is no build up of seeing what challenges the relationship may have had.
Probably the hottest thing about this book is the front cover which suggests a slightly different book than the one read. If you want an easy read poly romance then this one is a quick and easy read.

Review: Landing Eagle by Harley Stone
Landing Eagle by Harley Stone
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love Harley Stone novels and here are a few reasons why; they’re easy to read, they have amazing characters, they only have a little bit of drama and they have a HEA. What more could you need?
The 4th book in this series stars Naomi Licoln (Sister of Linc). She’s career air-force – working hard to retain her position of one of the only women of her rank and on her team. She’s strong and sassy but does seem to always think she’s not good enough, mainly due to being a woman living in a man’s world. Houston ‘Eagle’ Archer is the strong, silent type. A former Marine Sniper. The last mission he was on saw the woman he loved killed in action and this has left him with serious PTSD and a case of relationship shyness.
These two characters are perfect for each other and although they have instantaneous heat, their relationship is a slow burn until they get together. As with previous Dead President books this is not a plain sailing book. Naomi and Eagle both bring baggage to the relationship, both to do with their jobs as well as their personal lives and it is only through circumstances that make them realise how much they mean to each other.
As always, the rest of the gang is here. This book is written at a time when other characters are getting together or getting married and it was really nice to be interspersed between that story whilst reading about Naomi and Eagle. I have to say that Naomi’s best friend, Monica…..freaking hilarious! She’s a woman that you want in your corner!
As with all of Harley Stone’s books, sexy scenes are super hot, they nearly melt off the page…..well at least melt my e-reader. This book is a definite must read for all MC fans as well as Harley Stone fans, it’s a well written book with some really great characters. Bring on the next one in the series.

Excerpt
The
air burns my lungs, my morning run down. For months I’d been running, building
up endurance and trying to slim my thighs down. I’ve made it up to about three
miles, which is good considering when I started I could barely do one.
While
my shape has improved, I still have a ways to go. The wedding is fast
approaching and I want to look perfect for Caleb. Monday I’m going to push
myself and do four miles.
He
has a meeting today with the engineer and he’s allowed me to be there. I’m
excited to see what they say and to get designing the space.
As
soon as I get home my phone goes off with a text from Caleb.
Hey,
babe, when are you bringing my coffee? – Caleb
Shit,
my day is already a mess and it’s only eight in the morning.
Where
are you? – Aubrey
Before
I even get to shower I’m in my car and off again. The Starbucks is so close I’m
still sweating when I step in. While the run helps get me going, I need coffee.
At least the delay getting home will give it enough time to cool down.
I
can drop it off before heading home.
Warmth
spreads through me as I smile down at the screen and the little kisses. In just
over six months I will be Aubrey Manning. Someone different, and hopefully
better than my former self. I want to be better, for him.
There’s
still so much to do, we’ve barely scratched the surface, and I’m thankful for
my mom and Nora are around to help. Thankfully we were able to secure the
location. It isn’t my dream venue, but Caleb was able to book it on our shorter
timetable. Considering we got engaged at Christmas, we were doing pretty good.
With
Nora and my mom, we were heading wedding dress shopping in a week. Caleb
insisted on going against tradition to help me pick out the perfect dress.
“What
can I get started for you?” the barista asks.
I
manage to remember my order and pay before stepping to the side to wait with
the others.
Speaking
of Nora, I pull up my messenger and look at the pictures she sent me this
morning while I wait. She sent me three outfits last night and two this
morning. Two have possibilities, but the others are a no. I shoot her back the
ones for our fashion show on Saturday before making a few suggestions.
As
I type a tingle spreads across my back. Almost like a wave of heat from a fire.
I’ve felt it before. Years ago.
The
energy radiating from behind me flickers in the back of my brain, igniting
memories from long ago. Forgotten times buried under heartache. I can never
forget it–forget him–but I refuse to turn around to believe it.
Pike
isn’t here.
He
lives in New York, why would he come back to Indianapolis?
Not
only that, how in the world would the two of us end up at the same place at the
same time?
I
draw in a ragged breath as heat surges through my body.
One
man in my entire life made me feel this way. Only one.
My
knees grow weak and I want to blame it on my run, but I know the truth. The
mere thought of Pike being close has sent every part of me into chaos. Ten
years of silence is suddenly as loud as a rock concert surging through me.
I
don’t even have the courage to turn around, to see if it is him. Too scared
that I’ll have to face him after years apart. That I’ll have to admit that it’s
him doing this complete system hijak.
I
take a deep breath, that is shaky as hell, and peek over my shoulder. The hair
of my ponytail over my shoulder hides my face some, but one small glance and
every fear is confirmed–Pike Warren is home. Not only is Pike back in Indiana,
he somehow wound up at the same Starbucks as me at the same time, miles from
where we grew up.
His
lips are parted, blue eyes dark as he stares at me, catching me in my casual
attempt to spy. It almost looks like he is just as shocked as I am.
“Aubrey?”
Suddenly
he seems to be growing taller, and it isn’t until I feel the shock of his hands
on my waist that I realize it’s my knees giving up the ghost. Warmth crawls
through me from his touch, taking over.
“Whoa,
are you okay?” he asks as he pulls me up and to him.
Okay?
Okay?
No,
I am not okay. I was perfectly fine before he got in line behind me minutes
ago. But after, my life is suddenly in an upheaval of epic proportions.
Fuck
you, Pike.
“Yeah,
fine,” I say as I struggle to get my legs under me again. But my hands are on
his chest and he’s holding me close and everything is wrong but so right.
Stronger, larger, angular and still every bit the boy I loved. “Um…Hi.”
“Hi.”

Review: Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart
Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another hilarious read by Emma Hart. I love the rom-com hilarity that are her books and they definitely take your mind of your day.
This book is centered on Jamie Bell is a woman technically in a man's world. Working as a mechanic she has to prove herself time and again that she is just as good as any man, especially in the mechanical world. Enter some confusion when she applies for a job at her father's old mechanic shop. Here she meets the delicious Dexter Ryne who loves nothing more than to wind up Jamie and a bet that she won't make it two weeks before she is fired.
Jamie Bell was a great character and sometimes I felt that it was her sheer stubbornness which got her into trouble. She is sassy and strong willed but so is leading man Dexter who brings just enough machismo and laughter to make two wonderful characters.
Additional character such as Dexter's grandfather, aunt and sister and Jamie's best friend make this book a well rounded, laugh out loud book to read.
I can't wait to see what else Emma Hart has us her sleeves.

Review: Lake Silence by Anne Bishop
Lake Silence by Anne Bishop
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is my first foray into the world of Anne Bishop, and I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed. The book is so lyrical, it flows from the pages into a world of descriptive joy, and I just couldn’t put it down!
The book centres on main character Vicki DeVine, a human who has taken over a rustic resort near Lake Silence. Vicki is trying to start up her business with her lodger, Aggie (one of the shape shifting Others) when trouble is literally stumbled upon and turns Vicki’s life upside down. Enter a lot of characters who quite surprisingly are easy to keep track of and a lot of twists and turns and amazing descriptive writing and you have a winner!
This book was a big surprise for me. I got it from the library and read the first few chapters and thought ‘okay, this is different’. The whole book has a different view on shape shifters verses humans and where the lines are drawn which was really refreshing. There were a few times that I didn’t quite understand who some of the Others were and I think this was due to not having read previous books, but if anything, it did make me more intrigued and I have now ordered more books by this author from my local library. Go libraries!
I loved the idiosyncrasies of the characters and how their thoughts and feelings didn’t come across as fake or contrived (even the characters that were horrible) and that the Others sense of communication was so vastly different from the humans. I also loved the fact that Vicki teachers the Crows to play Murder as a human and then they teacher her to play it as an Other.
Lake Silence is full of different POV’s and the change from each character is done so elegantly you end up reading the whole book in a day! Just saying! Also, if you’re looking for romance, this is not the book for you! There aren’t any fast, passionate romps in this book and to be honest, it didn’t need it. The story help its own and I can only recommend it if you haven’t read it yet!

Review: Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Cruel Prince was a really different read for me. I hadn’t read anything by this author before, but I had seen it in my local library and thought that I would give it a try, even though it is a trilogy (sometimes I just can’t wait to know everything that is going to happen in a book!)
This book is an M/M fiction book which seems to sit in a range of genres: dark romance, M/M, bisexual, historical to name but a few and it definitely is really meaty when it comes to the story and what it is about. The story is really fast paced and we enter an almost Greek like world or kingdoms, kings and slaves. Here we meet Damen, a warrior from Akielos who has been betrayed by his half brother and sold as a slave. Stripped of everything, he is shipped off (quite literally) to Vere where he meets his new Master, Laurent. Here starts the story of intrigue, slow burning romance, cruelty and a fight for the throne.
The story overall is really descriptive and you see how slaves are treated, how royalty in a corrupt society works and how staying alive is like playing a game of chess. You must be one step ahead of your opponents. Damen and Laurent are almost two peas from the same pod as they both come across as arrogant and at times selfish, thinking only of their own gain. I wouldn’t say that they become friends in this book, or even allies, but there is definitely something there which leaves you wanting more. I am especially keen to see Laurent’s development as a character as you just can’t quite put him in a box and you come away at the end of the book wondering what he is up too.
There are a few things in this book which make it dark, such as the context of certain relationships, slavery and how people of treated. But saying that, reading the blurb on the back of this book highlights what it’s going to be about.
Overall, a very different type of book for me to read by an author that I haven’t read before. I’m going to keep reading the trilogy as I really do want to know what is going to happen to Laurent and Damen when secrets come out as well as how their relationship progresses. Definitely a book to try if you are feeling brave and are looking for something a little different.

Review: Little by J.M. Dabney
Little by J.M. Dabney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
J. M. Dabney is just a really great author and I take great pleasure in reading books by this author! This is the second book in the Trenton Security Series, this time focusing on Harmon Little and Solomon Poe. Harmon Little is crazy by anyone's standards. Thrown away when he was a child, bounced from home to home and then living out on the streets, he pretty much had a harsh start to life which has effected how he is as an adult. He has a good job and lots of friends and even a few who he classes as family, but he feels like something or someone is missing. Here a conversation with Lucky's mum (who you would have met in previous books and who is the craziest, quirkiest, most loveable person I have ever read about) about feeling lightening when you've found the one , which ironically then results in Little kidnapping Solomon…..oh yes he does!
Solomon is quirky and suffers from low body image (mainly due to the fact that he isn't like the rest of his family, you know the slim, perfect, body obsessive type) but he totally gets Little, even if he was a little apprehensive about being kidnapped.....but who wouldn't?
Here starts a really amazing love story between two people who just feel right, in a world which doesn’t necessarily agree with their choices (but we don’t give those people any unnecessary air time if it can be helped). There are definite highs and lows in this book and some moments where you just don't know how it is going to work (i.e. when Little has to go undercover) but as usual Ms. Dabney just makes it work between characters and I have to say that this is one of my favourite books that I have read from her. The books are an easy read and can be demolished in an afternoon with a cup of tea and some biscuits, although be warned, you will want to just binge read every single J.M. Dabney book you can get your hands on as well as be friends with most of the men and women that pop up in them.
I particularly love Solo's fondness for bow ties which is super cute. There are also moments with characters from previous books that made me smile and laugh out loud.
If you haven't read a J. M. Dabney book before, you need to start as you are missing out on a brilliant writer!

Review: Debase by Rachel Van Dyken
Debase by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
OMG, OMG, OMG (hyperventilation and wheezing here!) this has to be one of my favourite Rachel Van Dyken books ever….it comes a close second to Chase’s story ‘Eulogy’ which barely left me hanging on by my fingernails.
Debase is the last book in the Eagle Elite series, but a new book in the Elite Bratva Brotherhood series and it focuses on Andrei Petrov (Yes! That Andrei Petrov). To understand this character a bit more, you definitely need to go back and take a look at the awesomeness which is the Eagle Elite series. There you’ll find out about all the other characters that pop in and out of Debase and understand where they are and what they mean in the story.
Andrei is like an angel who has fallen from heaven. Dark, brooding, hurting, anti-hero…..mafia man of sexiness. Enter Alice, number six thirty – two, a girl unlucky enough to be born with a forbidden name but strength of will and bravery that I think even surpasses Andrei’s. They make an intriguing couple; both having pasts that have left definitive scars but also a vulnerability which can be seen in certain scenes throughout this book.
As always, I love the secondary characters that make an appearance and it’s like catching up with a bloodthirsty Scooby gang, but you just have to know what’s going on in the Eagle Elite world….it’s like an addiction.
Debase is a book that I just couldn’t out down, and I have to say that I binge read it in a matter of hours….something which is quite normal for me when it comes to Rachel Van Dyken and her amazing storytelling. The books flow, have complex yet very human characters and the most amazing plot twists ever. If you like dark, mafia romances, then this book is the one for you. Blood in. No out.

Review: Tru Blue by Melissa Foster
Tru Blue by Melissa Foster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Melissa Forster is now one of my new favourite writers. I had this book for a while and never got around to reading it, but after I read Truly, Madly, Whiskey I knew that I had to read it and I wasn’t disappointed.
This story centres around Truman and Gemma. Truman is from a harsh background, non existent father, drug addicted mother and numerous siblings. Truman has just gotten out of jail (you’ll have to read the book to figure out what’s happened in the past to get him to where he is now) and gets a phone call from his estranged drug addicted younger brother, Quinten. Truman runs to his brother aid to find his mother in trouble and two young siblings which he didn’t know about. Due to the state that the children are in Truman takes them with him, thus starting the story of his life and his meeting Gemma in a store when he is trying to buy things for the children (which he knows nothing about).
Gemma works in a boutique store which caters to costumes for young girls but comes from a background of wealth and tragedy (father’s death) and a mother who is nothing but snarky and mean. Gemma is great and all she wants to do is look after Truman and his family, even amidst her own tragedies.
What I really liked about this story is that Truman and Gemma are not perfect, they have issues within their relationships (mainly due to lack of communication and outside influences) but they are such strong characters and their story ends with a happily ever after. It’s also nice to see the Whiskey family again (even though this is the first book which introduces them, I read them out of order). I can’t wait to see what happens with the Whiskey family and hope Truman and Gemma pop up to let us know how they’re getting on.
The writing style of Ms. Foster is so fluid that the story just flows from beginning to end. A definite romance recommend. now I just have to read all of her other books! 😀

Review: Until December by Aurora Rose Reynolds
Until December by Aurora Rose Reynolds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Until December (Until Him/Her #8)
Okay, let me start by saying that I love anything to do with Aurora Rose Reynolds and especially the Until Series, and I really loved this book. But, there was a small part of me where I wanted to knee Gareth Black in the balls! The text message back to December! No Sir, not having it! So rude! (Deep inhale) Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system I have to say that if you’ve loved all of the previous books in the series, this one is going to especially warm your heart!
December Mayson, who you should have already met in previous books, is going to get her happily-ever-after. December is an introvert, avid reader and beloved teacher. She’s pretty adorable and somewhat content with how her life is. Enter Gareth Black, father of two amazingly cute boys (swooning over how cute they are), hardworking dad, trying to do the best he can. Boom! Instant attraction, but like always the path is not smooth and is fraught with confusion, communication mix ups and a vindictive and slightly psychotic ex wife!
But all is not lost for these characters, after all December is a Mason and she won’t take any crap lying down. She also has an amazing family whose interactions are really cute and funny to read about. It definitely makes me want to go back and read the series again from the beginning.
This is totally a sweet story about love and family. The relationship between December and Gareth works great and the relationship that December has with Gareth’s sons at points, left me a little teary. This is an easy read book that I read in a couple of hours and pretty much left me with an aww 😘feeling.

Review: Grave Witch by Kalayna Price
Grave Witch by Kalayna Price
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Kalayna Price is one of my favourite new authors. I feel like I’ve come to the party a little bit late where this author is concerned, and made it awkward but I’m going to stick around! I have to say that I really enjoyed Grave Witch; it has everything I wanted in a paranormal/urban romance featuring witches, fae and a little something different…Death.
Grave Witch centres around witch Alex Craft, a private investigator and consultant for the police who also seems to have a good relationship with the one and only Death (enter here a sexy, somewhat brooding character which you only get glimpses of in the book and are left wanting more…plus the last few chapters in the book left me going ‘what was that! What’s happening? I need some more of that!’ Enter a crime scene with a high profile murder, things that go bump in the night and attack and a police officer partner, Falin Andrews who is hiding some deep secrets and you have a recipe, well not for disaster but for some confusion, action and sassiness. 😈
This book pretty much grips you from the get go and you kind of want to skip pages to see what is going to happen next. Alex’s relationship with Falin is slow moving and has a ‘will they/ won’t they’ vibe to it which I quite liked, but I definitely want to know more about Death and his relationship with Alex, which is only briefly touched upon in this book.
Kalayna’s writing style is pretty fluid and descriptive so you can see and almost feel all of the creatures that Alex comes up against and there are definitely some scenes that are quite chilling, especially when Alex is in the morgue!
Overall, I really liked this book; it’s refreshing and has a different stance (I feel) on witches, fae and the politics that go with being classed as ‘different’ to everyone else. Give this book a try; I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Review: Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione
Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
OMG this book is HOT! This new series is about the 4 horsemen (well 3 horsemen and 1 horsewoman) of the apocalypse and centres on Ares the horseman formally known as War. This novel starts at the end of a previous series where we see the beginning of the apocalypse in a world where demons and angels exist alongside humans.
Ares is an intriguing character who brings wit, strength and a dark charm to the novel as well as more than a little bit of arrogance yet on the other side; he is vulnerable and has an extreme amount of baggage (which is understandable for a 5000 year old immortal). Ares is forced into protecting and keeping alive Cara (a human), who on the surface is not what she seems. Living with a past trauma, at times she comes across as really weak and then she seems to put on her big girl pants and deal with the hand that she was dealt, even if that means her death.
Ares and Cara’s romance is a bit tempestuous in that you know they are going to get together, you know it’s going to be hot but you also know that there is going to be some major dramas in the guise of saving the world from an apocalypse, being betrayed by a family member, facing past trauma and having a Hellhound as a protector to name but a few.
I feel that you don’t need to have read previous books to enjoy this one, but it would probably help you to better understand the secondary characters past stories such as Kenan, Respeh and Thanatos, as well as give you an idea of how the book is set out, both with the underworld and earth.
Sexy scenes are so steamy you may need to go and cool down after reading them but at the same time you will crave for more.
This is a definite must read book for me and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series brings.

Review: Paris Punishment by Lila Dubois
Paris Punishment: Billionaire Club Romance: Paris Trilogy #2 by Lila Dubois
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Paris Punishment picks up where book 1 (Paris Pleasure) ended, with Solomon and Vivienne going their different ways when Vivienne chooses family over love….or does she?
Solomon and Vivienne seem to have a lot of past baggage packed with a lot of hurt, pride, missed communication and self worth issues, which although brought up in the first book, really comes to a head in this installment. We see Vivienne flying to Solomon’s private island to see if they can be fixed and to see if Solomon can give Vivienne what she craves….some sexy time with a hot Dom.
This book is interesting because we hear from both characters, both in the past and present. We are also privy to the outside factors which hint to why this couple struggle with having a happy-ever-after scenario, as well as what BDSM brings to them and why they need it.
A lot of scenes in this book hint at vulnerability from both Vivienne and Solomon and if they would only lay everything on the table and listen to one another, everything might be a bit smoother for both of them. The sexy scenes in this book are amazing as always, and I wouldn’t expect anything else from Ms. Dubois!
As this book is a trilogy, it ends in a (throw your e-reader across the room) cliff-hanger and the book definitely leaves you wanting more as well as a one to one chat with some of the characters as well as a couple of WTF’s! The next installment is certainly going to be interesting!
I received an ARC of this book for a fair and honest review.

Review: Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy
Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Born in Blood is the first book in the Sentinels Series by Alexandra Ivy. If you’ve read any of Ms. Ivy’s previous books you know that they are going to be hot, hot, hot!
This book sees Sergeant Duncan O’Connor a Kansas City cop investigating the murder of an erotic dancer in her home, with no clear motive and also missing her heart! Enter Callie Brown, a ‘freak’ from the nearby city of Valhalla, a place where ‘High Bloods’ or those with magical powers live. Callie is sent to help O’Conner due to her psychic abilities with finding and catching the murderer before he kills more people. Here the action begins. Both characters are on the hunt for a necromancer (raiser of the dead), but all is not what it seems and we are taken back in time to figure out the background about said criminal as well as how the Sentinels come about.
This story centres on prejudice, passion and fantasy and two people working together who really aren’t that different. Sometimes O’Conner comes across as a little bit righteous in his way of thinking as a mortal and you kind of want Callie to stick up for ‘freaks’ everywhere a little bit more, but overall they are two very strong characters with a lot going for them (although the cover of the book does not show how Callie really looks i.e. she has long hair on the cover but short hair in the book). Other characters such as Fane, Serra, Wolfe and The Mave were really interesting characters and it is going to be exciting to see how their stories develop. I’m particularly intrigued to learn about Wolfe!
The plot for this story is really intriguing, centering on necromancy and the power that it brings! In parts of the story the necromancy was a little creepy, as though you were almost in the room when things were happening (the sign of a good book for me). The passion between Callie and O’Conner was pretty much a go from the first page which was fine as the story did jump in to them both knowing each other for a while and a little bit of sexy time always makes for a good read.
Overall though, a comfortable 4 star read for me and I will certainly be reading the next books in this series.

Review: Nero by Sarah Brianne
Nero by Sarah Brianne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love the whole Made Men series by Sarah Brianne, but I have to admit that the first one, Nero is definitely my favourite. Nero is set around Nero, the King of Legacy Prep and Elle, the punching bag of the same school. Nero wants to be a ‘Made Man’ like his father and is put in charge of finding out what Elle knows when she sees something she shouldn’t. Elle just wants to survive school. Here begins the adventure; Made Men; a brother to die for; strong women who are more courageous than they should be and some amazingly sexy scenes.
The relationships are really important in this book and something that the next books in this series build upon. We see how Nero’s relationship with Elle develops and how he starts seeing what makes her the woman she is. The information you get about what Elle suffers both at school and at home is quite affronting and at times you can’t believe that she has survived such abuses. Throughout all of the wrongness about her situation, Elle is still a good friend to Chloe (how that friendship grows is saddening and amazing all at once), a hard worker and won’t put up with Nero’s or Lucca’s crap.
Nico is the quintessential male; strong, domineering, sexy and a little bit arrogant, but who wouldn’t be with his background. He is a powerhouse of an alpha with a filthy mouth and a take no prisoner attitude. When reading about him, you don’t necessarily see him as a high school senior but a more mature adult. I would be intrigued to see a short story written about him later on in life to see if he has the same characters traits, but just a bit more matured.
I really loved all of the background information of the characters you got in this book and there was a small part of me that enjoyed that the bullies got their comeuppance as they truly did deserve it!
Overall, as a mafia style book, Sarah Brianne is one to watch, she brings vibrancy, sexiness and a filthy mouth to this genre. It is a great YA novel and having read the rest of the books in this series and waiting with baited breath for more, I can’t recommend Sarah Brianne enough.

Review: Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs
Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Mercy Thompson series is quite possible one of my favourite series to read ever! This book sees Mercy’s return from Europe (Silence Fallen #10) and back working at her mechanics store with Zee and Tad, her relationship with the Basin pack Alpha, Adam is still going strong. She has more than embraced being a coyote skinwalker and she doesn’t seem to have upset anyone for at least a week. Or so it seems…. Enter goblins, zombie goats, witches and so much more. Being in the neutral zone doesn’t mean that Mercy and her friends are safe; it could actually mean the complete opposite!
For me, this was a book I couldn’t put down. I just wanted to see what was happening and Ms. Briggs writes in such a way that you feel like you are walking along with her characters as she describes what is happening. Mercy is one awesome protagonist, her voice is as real as are the dilemmas she faces, not just with the pack hierarchy but also with those around her, including those who are in power and those who have power. We definitely see a real side to Mercy and her emotions (this can also be seen throughout all of this series) where Mercy has to weigh up what is good for herself as an individual, as a couple and as a leader (although she will never say she is one of those), she is just one of those characters that has such internal strength and her only weakness (if it is one) is that she feels. She isn’t a character that has lost her humanity due to her other-worldliness, like some of the characters in this book have.
This book is again back in Mercy’s original setting of the Tri-Cities and although a few new characters crop up, the book is mainly written around characters we already know, love and some we hate a little.
These books are certainly a guilty pleasure and I always look forward to catching up with all (well most) of the characters in the books. A must read for all paranormal/urban fantasy fans. I can’t wait for the next book in this series; sadly it’s a long wait…2020.
Also, how awesome is the book art!

Review: The Hallowed Knight by Jenn Stark
The Hallowed Knight by Jenn Stark
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wait.....what! (throws e-reader across the room in a flurry of emotion) That's how it ended! How can I possibly wait for the next installment of this series!
This book was just amazing. Sara and the rest of the gang are in a fight for their survival with Sara at the helm and all the other players doing what they need to do in order to survive, sometimes by manipulating the course of events, others stepping back and seeing what happens. The Hallowed Knight takes you on a roller-coaster of emotion and action and you will definitely be left guessing about what is going to happen in the next one! It's great that it takes place outside of Las Vegas and into the magic of Ireland with its Folklore and Tall Tales. It also helps that the protagonist in this book doesn't take herself too seriously and has a sassy streak a mile long as does her partner in crime Nikki, who just needs a series of her own!
If you haven't read any of these books before, you should start with the first series - Immortal Vegas which introduces you to the amazing Sara Wilde and a whole host of amazing and intriguing characters and go from there. Basically these books are like Pringles, once you pop.....
Another great read from Ms. Stark.....I can't wait to see what happens next!

Review: Paris Pleasure by Lila Dubois
Paris Pleasure: Billionaire Club Romance: Paris Trilogy #1 by Lila Dubois
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lila Dubois' Orchid Club books are hot..... and this one is scorching. Focusing on Solomon and Vivienne's past and present relationship, mistakes that were made, indecision, passion, anger. You name it, this book is so full of emotion, by the end of the book you're taking full, panting breathes as it is just that hot and emotional.
Both characters are so emotional, stubborn, erotic but neither really listens to the other resulting in a push/pull relationship that as we know is spread into a trilogy.
For a first book this is great and leaves you wanting more, there is also a few characters from previous books that pop up which is nice to see. I can't wait to read the next installment.
I was provided and ARC in exchange for an honest review.
