Review: Treacherous - Alex Grayson & Melissa Toppen

Treacherous Treacherous by Alex Grayson
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars

Treacherous by Melissa Toppen and Alex Grayson is a wonderful bully/lovers romance which keeps you turning the pages until the very end, just so you can find out what has happened. The story centres around Rylee and Zayden. Rylee has just had to start a new school due to her mother remarrying. It is meant to be the best year of her life, but throw in her new (evil) step-brother Oliver and his best friend, Zayden and that doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible. From the get-go, Oliver is horrible to his sister and Zayden being his best friend, he kind of follows allow, playing some really horrific stunts on Rylee. But at one-point Oliver pushes too far and Zayden isn’t going to put up with it…hence the bully/lovers’ relationship.

What really made this book for me was Rylee, she is a really strong character and after everything that both Oliver and Zayden put her through, she just keeps on getting up, brushing herself off and dealing with it. The talking too that she gives to Oliver is epic after he does something that is pretty shady and she also doesn’t take Zayden and his actions at face value either. There are definitely some likeable things about Zayden, especially in the latter part of the book and he does seem to redeem himself, but I’m going to fly my girl flag here and say Rylee is the better character!

As with most teen books and teens in real life, there is a lot of drama, angst, emotions and more in this book and it certainly is an enjoyable one to read. Although I am secretly thankful that none of the things Rylee went through happened to me as a teen! This is really good storytelling with a fast paced, emotional storyline. If you like the whole bully genre that is going on at the moment, then this one is for you!

ARC received for a fair and honest review.
