Review: Setting the World on Fire - Maggie K.C.

Setting the World on Fire Setting the World on Fire by Maggie K.C. Au
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Setting the World on Fire is the debut novel by Maggie K.C. in the Gaslight Trilogy. It focuses on the character Rebecca DeMeyer who is a really naïve heiress who it seems throughout most of the book is really gullible and taken advantage of by Beau, Jai and Kal, at least that’s what it seemed like to me. Becca seems to lack the confidence to see what is going on around her and doesn’t even get that giving someone money doesn’t make them your friend. To be honest there were times I wanted to give her a good shake as well as her boyfriend who she doesn’t get is abusing her…no matter how she wants to play that record!

This book brings up a lot of situations/triggers for readers but in a way that is realistic and very true when looking at society today as a whole. I definitely think Maggie K.C. has hit the nail on the head with writing about her characters experience in a world which can at times be harsh and not everyone is looking out for you.

That being said, the boys in this book make it for me. You don’t know whether to love them or hate them, but boy do you have a reaction to them. This book is certainly a page turner and you are hoping that Becca grows up a little bit more and then we’ll see what she does. A really good debut novel and I can’t wait to see what else this series has in store.

ARC received for a fair and honest review.
