So, That Got Weird by Amelia Kingston
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
So That Got Weird is book 1 in the So Far, So Good series by Amelia Kingston. This is a totally funny, sweet, sexy book that focuses on introverted nerd, Elizabeth Wilde who is desperate for some sex-pert advice and guidance when it comes to the opposite sex. A twenty one year old gamer who puts a capital A in awkward, Elizabeth sets out to find out how to come out of her shell, gain more confidence and become the sex kitten we know that she initially is…even if she is a little bit odd and she finds that in hot jock, Austin Jacobs. Austin Jacobs is the quintessential jock. He’s smoking hot, needs the cash desperately and is a little bit broken but above all, he’s swoon-worthy and a definite match for Elizabeth.
Even though both characters come from completely different backgrounds, there certainly is a connection between the two from the start. Elizabeth is quirky, fierce and sassy in comparison to Austin’s jokester, confidently cool and insanely sweet. They seem to click straight away but not everything is plain sailing between he two. Factor in different backgrounds, life experiences, how they handle life in general and the jagged edges that both characters seem to have, at times it is like they are both crawling through a mine-field that is sometimes fraught with mis-communication and hurt feelings, but boy does the story work!
I loved the dialogue between these two characters as well as the relationship that Elizabeth has with her gaming friend (super snarky!). There are some difficult moments in the book from both sides, highlighting abandonment by parents, losing parents, expectations to name but a few and a really great twist in the middle of the story that you don’t see coming. I particularly liked the epilogue at the end of the book where we see more of Elizabeth and Austin in later years.
If you like sweet, steamy, romantic books with some angst thrown in then Amelia Kingston is an author for you!
ARC received for a fair and honest review.
