Review: Tangled - Harlow James

Tangled Tangled by Harlow James
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Tangled is book 1 in the new series: Emerson Falls by Harlow James. It is a slow burn love story between Kane, an ex-marine who has been burnt by love and doesn’t know how to move forward and Olivia, a newly single woman moving back home after catching her boyfriend in a compromising situation and needs to start over. They meet each other and have a one-night stand thinking they won’t see each other again, but fate has it in for them and it seems that they will be working together.

This book is full of what it is like to be in a relationship when you’re always questions yourself and your past. Kane seems to carry a lot of ghosts in his past which seems to influence how he treats Olivia, not only from his past relationships but also due to his PTSD. He has a solid foundation in Emerson Falls and it was nice to see his friends giving him a slap up in the head for the way he was treating Olivia. That being said, when he was invested, he was really sweet, giving it his all.

Olivia on the other hand knows what she’s talking about and what she wants. Although confused about the reasons why Kane treated her so harshly in the beginning, she doesn’t let him walk all over her and I felt throughout the book you saw her put on her big girl pants and deal with what life was throwing at her. The fact that she has a good tribe also helps.

This book is a low burn romance but when there were some sexy scenes, they were really hot and showed the differences between a one-night stand sexy times and that within a developing relationship.

I really loved the progression of the story and didn’t see the twists that came in part way through. How they were handled was intriguing as was it intriguing to see Kane’s conversations with his therapist. Harlow James has a way of writing where you become invested in the characters and want them to find their HEA. This book is filled with romance, wittiness, intrigue and some wonderfully strong main characters as well as secondary ones too.

A beautiful written story and an overall great read!

ARC received for a fair and honest review.
