Review: Cruel Obsession - J.L. Beck & C. Hallman

Cruel Obsession Cruel Obsession by J.L. Beck
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Cruel Obsession is book 1 in the Obsession Duet by authors J.L. Beck and C. Hallman and boy is it a quick, fast paged read. The story centres around Dove and Zane. Dove has suffered a lot in her young life and is just managing to piece together her life after her traumatic childhood, but she has the feeling that she is being watched.

Zane on the other hand is infatuated with Dove. He’s clever, possessive and almost psychotic in his need for Dove. He does things which are criminally wrong but as you read the book, you kind of understand why he does those things…. even though you may not agree with them. Zane is sent to kill Dove (you never quite find out why until the end…cliff-hanger!) which gives him the opportunity to hold her captive and thus the story between the two really begins. You really get to see how obsessive Zane is about Dove and the story has lots of twists and turns into why he is that way as well as Dove’s developing feelings for Zane.

This book has a lot of flashbacks in it and Zane trying to get Dive to remember what happened as well as a lot of twist and turns in the story whilst you’re trying to piece together why Zane’s boss, Christian wants Dove dead. Of course, there’s a cliff-hanger, so you’ll have to wait until the next book to really figure out the triangle. The scenes between Dove and Zane are really steamy and a pleasure to read. Both writers work really well together to give you a dark romance with lots of sexy scenes which tie together really well and a really good story!

This book does have some triggers which some readers may find difficult.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
