My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
Tangled Love by Haley Jenner is one of
those books that you just can’t put down as it is that good. The story centres
around Codi and Parker. When Parker was a small boy, he and his older brother
Rocco overhear their Uncle discussing who is responsible for their mother’s
death…Dominic Rein. From here on out, the brothers are planning revenge and
they are going to take it out on Dominic’s daughter, Codi.
Codi is the quintessential good girl, she
has a job that she likes, is sweet and an innocent. She is pursued by Parker
quite fiercely and they seem to have a good relationship with a lot of banter
back and forth, unbeknownst to Codi that Parker has this need for revenge which
is driven hard by his brother.
The story certainly focuses on whose side
Parker is one. On one side, he has this amazing girl who he is falling for but
he is also pushed by family loyalty. Throughout the book you feel the angst and
mental issues that comes with holding those responsibilities. He is definitely hot
and cold when it comes to Codi and there are times when he just leaves her
hanging and she is pushed out into the cold.
I really enjoyed Codi as a character as she
is quirky, has to deal with Parker’s mixed messages whilst falling in love with
him and balancing this adult relationship which is new to her with revelations
that kind of blow her out of the water. There is definitely a lot of twist and
turns in this book and a lot of revelations on what did happen to the boy’s
mother and although it was a quick and unusual ending, it did seem to work for
the book. The dynamics of family play an important role in this book and
without both Parker’s brother and Codi’s sister, I don’t think we would have
felt the angst, emotions or betrayal that either Parker or Codi felt if they
hadn’t of made an appearance.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the
story as a whole. The characters were wonderful and there was certainly enough
drama and intrigue to keep you turning the pages. Hopefully Rocco’s story will
come out soon so I can know what happens to him.
