Review: Tainted Heart: A Dark Captive Romance - Skye Bailey

Tainted Heart: A Dark Captive Romance Tainted Heart: A Dark Captive Romance by Skye Bailey
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Tainted Heart by Skye Bailey is a standalone dark captive read. The book centres on Audrey and Flynn who are each other’s soul mates. When Flynn goes missing and is presumed dead, Audrey has to get on with her life, no matter how hard it is. What we see is Flynn coming back as a changed and often cruel man who ends up kidnapping Audrey (but not telling her who he is). He has kind of reinvented himself into this cruel, dark monster and wants to mold Audrey into something like that so that she can share his pain.

This book is extremely dark and has some elements which may make readers question what they are reading, but it is something that the author also states at the beginning of the book. As this book is fictional, that is how you have to take the story as there is deep pain and as you delve deeper into the book, we see what Flynn has endured. That is not to say that you have to agree with his actions, but that is part of the story…him forgiving himself as well as Audrey forgiving this man who has captured her, who seems so familiar yet not.

This story certainly isn’t for everyone and although it wasn’t really my type of book, I think it will appeal to others who like extremely dark romances. The authors writing is so good that you are swept into the psyche of these two broken characters, one by circumstances and one through the sheer torture that they have endured. There were scenes that were hard to read and often Flynn ‘Gruff’ was extremely cruel to the one person who he will love forever but that seemed to add to the twisted element of this intriguing romance.

If you like heart-breaking, seriously dark and twisted romance, then this is the one for you.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review; all opinions are my own. 😊
