Alpha Bully by Renee Rose
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐stars
Holy Moly this book was really good! This is a New Adult book with a Bully/Romance theme going on in it. It is gritty, raw, and sexual and sometimes frighteningly accurate on how I think high school is for some teenagers in this day and age. Bailey and Cole are polar opposites. Bailey is the new girl at school, getting over a tragedy and who is sassy, unique and doesn’t fit into any mould. This is in comparison to Cole who is the ‘alpha-hole’ of his school: jock, arrogant and trying to make Bailey’s life a living hell due to her mother taking her father’s job.
There are moments in the book which are quite cringe-worthy due to the extremes Cole will go to too make Bailey’s life a misery. He makes sure people from the school do the same and there is also an incident between Bailey and another teacher which is frightening in the fact that it probably does happen. The saving grace for Cole (although not an excuse) is that you understand why he is doing what he is doing and do feel some empathy towards him and his family.
Bailey and Cole are well written characters and I really like that Ms. Rose wrote a character (Bailey) who is a strong and sassy character (although she does cry an awful lot) and she just doesn’t put up with Cole’s crap. Another strong thing about the book is that we see both characters POV, so we get some deeper understanding of why they act the way they do.
This book is really quite erotic, and you do tend to forget that it is a YA book. Some of the scenes are quite explicit and will make you a little hot under the collar. But this isn’t what the whole book was about and sexy scenes were accurately placed without taking away from the story.
If you enjoy bully romances with shifters….oh did I not tell you that part! Then you’re going to love Alpha Bully and hopefully it will tick all of your boxes on what you enjoy in a YA book. I can’t wait to see what else is offered in this series and really hope we see more of Raine who is really sweet and a good friend.
