Queen Sector: Dystopian Reverse Harem Romance by Lucy Auburn
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ stars
Queen Sector by Lucy Auburn is a standalone novel set in the Zombie Year 2099 universe which has a collection of books in it. This book focuses on the story of Mia, a witch who is part of the rebellion and is tasked with trying to end the King of Old York, a necromancer with incredible power and cruelty. For years he has turned people into mindless, flesh eating zombies, killing witches and other things of supernatural value whilst stomping on the poor humans. Mia has been working with a witch coven (and her mother) to secretly come up with a plan to kill the king, what she ends up doing is showing him some deep hidden power which he wants for himself in the form of a child.
To add to Mia’s hardship are the king’s sons: Lucian, Bain and Orion, all unique and different in their own right. All which have a persona that is shown to the world but which Mia finds cracks in. Now Mia, not only has to stay alive, but also work with the Princes to bring the Old King down before he gains even more power and becomes unstoppable.
This story had heart in it, you see the strength and determination that Mia has and how she is kind of thrown in the deep end with it all and expected to save humanity whilst trying to figure out who she is (and who her father was). It certainly was a quick paced story and the relationship between the three brothers is certainly unique but fun to read about. The sexy scenes between the four of them are steamy and work surprisingly well although I did laugh at the bit when the father walks in (awkward!).
The main heart of the story is bringing everything together so that they can defeat the king, which pretty much happens how they plan it in the beginning chapters. Scenes regarding the zombies are gross, but they should be as zombies are gross and scenes between Mia’s mother and herself are enjoyable and show a deep love and understanding of one another.
If you like, fast paced, action romances with a hint of darkness, then you’ll enjoy this book!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review
