My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
Wicked Idol by Becker Gray starts
off with a bang and keeps you hanging on until the end! The story centres
around Iris Briggs and Keaton Constantine. Iris is a good girl; she’s working
hard for her goals and on her passion of photography. Being the new girl at Pembroke
Preparatory Academy and also being the daughter of the new and uptight Principal
of the school, you kind of know her transition isn’t going to be easier. To
make her life harder she happens to dump coffee all over the King of the
school, Keaton.
Keaton is the undisputed King of the
school. A popular, rich, well like rugby star, Keaton seems to have it all and
he certainly has it in for new girl Iris, who seems to be the antithesis of
everything he stands for. Little does he know that their backgrounds are quite
similar and that their trials and tribulations could literally tear them apart.
This was a great enemy to lovers’ story.
I loved the fact that Iris doesn’t let Keaton get away with anything and that
it is a battle of the wills when it comes to who is the strongest person in
their relationship. The fact that Keaton has to put on a charade to keep his mother
happy was heart-breaking at times as you could see the raw vulnerability that
seems to ooze out of him during the reading of those scenes. Saying that, there
definitely was sometimes you wanted to slap him across his arrogant head,
especially when it came to how he treats and talks to Iris.
You can also see Iris’s struggle
with being ‘perfect’ for her parents and their lack of understanding of their
passion or even general interest in their daughters wants or needs. I enjoyed
the fact that Iris and Keaton were so similar in some of their life experiences
and that they came to depend on each other when at first there was so much
instant dislike.
The chemistry between the two
characters was amazing and kept you turning the pages of this book. It was like
watching fireworks go off! And the little epilogue at the end, both hilarious
and steamy all at one. These two characters definitely have their own tribe and
I’m interested to see who gets a book next.
A steamy, crazy and at points soul destroying read!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
