Review: Marked in Flesh - Anne Bishop

Marked in Flesh Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Marked in Flesh is the phenomenal fourth book in The Others series by Anne Bishop. The Others and humans have been living side by side for centuries, but now the humans are overstepping their mark and they are now going to have to deal with the wrath of the Elder’s and it seems that no-one will escape.

I really loved everything about this book. Not only do we see Meg ‘the Cassandra Sangue’ growing, we see her developing her skills as a prophet and what that means not only for the others or humanity, but also for the other girls who have similar gifts to her. We also see the Others in their basic form as the ask the questions ‘How much human do we keep?’ which seems to be the central theme for this whole book as the Others go to war against the Human First League who at the beginning of the book seem to have no fear when it comes to the Others. Let’s just say that by the end of the book, their opinion certainly changes.

The book deals with a lot of conflict and lives are lost along the way. There are some really emotional moments in the books, especially if you have been following the series and have watched how things have come to a head. As well as dealing with displacement of people, disaster and families’ being torn apart, we also see the hope that the Courtyard has when it comes to survival.

As with all the books in this series, there are a host of characters who we are following as they prepare for either their survival or demise. We certainly get a lot more from the Sanguinati in this book as well as more of an introduction to the Elder’s and what their role is as Namid’s teeth and claws.  The ending of the book has definitely left me intrigued to see where Simon and Meg’s relationship is going to go next and I can’t wait to read it.

If you love full on descriptive, urban fantasy books with tons of twist and turns, then Anne Bishop is a writer for you. I can’t recommend this series enough!
