The first night our eyes met, my world was flipped upside down. I was ripped apart and thrown away, left to pick up the scattered pieces and rebuild what I could. To forget it ever happened.
That seemed like an impossible task with Levi hanging around my bakery each night, a constant reminder of what his friend had done to me. He should have been forbidden—a Grimville Reaper tied directly to the single moment that destroyed me, sent to ensure I never spoke a word about it.
Instead, he threw his own life on the line to protect me. He knew all my secrets, especially the ones I wished to forget. Yet, I knew nothing about him. And despite every ounce of my being warning me against it, I found myself trusting this mysterious man—believing in him.
I didn't expect to fall for him. To find refuge in his storm. But with a heartbreaking past and secrets of his own, could our love still triumph when his ugly truths came into the light?

Teasers from the book:
●
"I was born into the emptiness I
felt—raised to lack feelings or show emotion. The bedtime stories Mom read to
me at night were twisted nightmares, centered around me being the villain that
destroyed everything. My entire existence was a reminder to the people
surrounding me that I stole every hope they had for a positive future.
●
"The blood that ran through my veins
was poisoned and anyone who got too close could feel the effects. People like
me were the ones who deserved things like what Cooper had done to Nova, like
what my own father had done to my mother."
●
"I tried to continue with a life that
no longer felt like mine, and it only caused me to drown further in my lonely
isolation."
●
"His entire being held a familiarity
that drew me in and a freshness that kept me there. I never wanted to
leave."
●
"Whether I liked it or not, he owned
me. Every atom of my body was created for him. Every inch of my soul belonged
to his. And I owned him. The second he walked into my bakery, this brooding,
damaged man became mine."
●
"Apart, we were both broken people, but
together we made one whole."
●
"I became a shell of a human, a
soulless body moving through time, posing as a girl named Nova Rossi. But that
girl no longer occupied my headspace, and the only person who knew that was me.
So, I pretended to be her."
Author Bio:
Jen Stevens was born and raised in Michigan, where she enjoys the weather of all four seasons in a single day. After obtaining her Bachelor's degree, she quickly realized the corporate world wasn't for her and instead took on the daunting role as her daughter's snack maid. Reading has been an obsession for a long as she could remember, while writing has always been an escape. Jen could quote The Office word-for-word and proudly refers to herself as a romance junkie. She could live off anything made of sugar and has recently obtained the title of Lady. Most of all, she loves connecting with readers!
