Review: Pretty Obsessed - J.R. Gray

Pretty Obsessed Pretty Obsessed by J.R. Gray
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Pretty Obsessed by J.R. Gray is a soft-hearted story about a writer and a rock star. Emory and River meet in strange circumstances but hit it off immediately with an instant attraction. Both of them are soft-hearted guys trying to look after themselves and those around them. River is a drummer in a hugely successful band, and we follow his story as he becomes closer to Emory but is also trying to save the life of his best friend and band front man, Iris. Enter Emory, a sweet, shy and funny guy who steals River’s heart, but both of them are scared to take the next step due to personal reasons.

Emory is the sweetest guy who has been burned before. He doesn’t judge River for the choices he makes but is often an overthinker when it comes to things of the heart (mainly due to his past). He just gets River and they both develop a sweet and steamy relationship that as you read, becomes something bigger.

That’s not to say that there isn’t some drama as there is in this book, both with the main characters and some of the secondary characters, but it makes the whole story more realistic and page-turning. I enjoyed reading about how they we’re trying to find the balance with each other without being stifling.

If you like your characters, sweet, sexy and fun, then this is going to be the read for you. A beautiful MM, cute romance and the first in a series. This book is a standalone!

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

I joined the military to escape my hellish nightmare of a life in the Flats of Portstill, needing more than the dismal surrounding I grew up in. I served my country with pride and honor, but an accident ended my enlistment, forcing me back home, unsure of what my future would be. After a chance meeting with the Death Hounds MC, I found a place that gave me the brotherhood I craved and an outlet for my anger.

When I met Sadie, I saw someone who was hiding from the pain that threatened to tear her apart as she struggled to raise her younger brothers alone. One night, a run-in with a random stranger forced her to run to the MC for protection, and when I saw her, I knew she was meant to be mine. Her painful past and my difficult upbringing created cracks that nearly destroyed us, but we both fought our demons and found our way back to each other. Can our broken souls heal each other, or will the pain keep us on solitary paths?

Now, buried secrets from the past have risen from the ashes, not only affecting Sadie but threatening to tear the Death Hounds apart from the inside out. When the Death Hounds say you’re family, you’re family for life, but what happens when it’s family that betrays you?

And when death comes knocking, who do you want on your side?

Excerpt:

I sat on the couch and pulled her onto my lap as she walked past. She giggled, and I needed to kiss her, to know she was real. To know we were real. She slid her arms over my chest, linking her hands behind my neck as she shifted to straddle my thighs. My cock was thick and begging to be set free, to find its home within her, but I settled for a deep kiss, her tongue caressing mine as she showed me her affection.

My hands wandered under her shirt slowly and I stroked her back, feeling the raised scars on her skin. I wanted to ask her about them, but then the fear I saw in her eyes last night told me that was a conversation best left for later.

She broke the kiss and smiled with her hand over her swollen lips as she stared into my eyes. Knowing this couldn’t go any farther today, I stood from the couch and placed her on her feet in front of me. She bit her lip, and I winked before we went into each of the bedrooms as I helped her pack a small bag for both. The ride back to the clubhouse, her hand was linked with mine, and thoughts of our future swam through my head.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop imagining what caused her pain and fear. I needed to find out what happened to her, but I was afraid she wouldn’t tell me, either out of fear or misplaced guilt or shame. Returning to the clubhouse, I cornered Smokey after getting Sadie settled into my room, hoping he would tell me what or whom I needed to kill.

“You need to ask her. I don’t know all the details, but I can tell you, about eight or so years ago, something dimmed the light in her eyes. She’s happier than I’ve ever seen her.” He stepped closer to me and his voice took on a menacing tone. “That girl gave up her life to take care of those boys, and if you do anything to hurt her, I’ll cut you into pieces and no one will ever know. Do I make myself clear?”

“You told me once that when you met Piper, you instantly knew she was the one.” He nodded, so I continued. “I felt that last night and I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I do know I’d rather hurt myself than to hurt her or that little boy.”

He looked at me, his wrinkled eyes looking deep into mine before he replied, “Just be patient with her,” he replied cryptically, and I watched him walk away.

What did she experience that caused such a sudden change in her?

Deciding to give her time to tell me, I walked to our cabin to find her stretched out on the bed. Bear was wrapped around her leg, and Jacob was doing his homework on the kitchen table. Vowing then and there to slay her demons and give her peace, I picked up a book and joined her on the bed.

My eyes glanced at her as she read, a genuine smile on her face.

Whoever hurt her would pay.

Whoever damaged her would die.

Whoever stood in my way would be destroyed.

For Sadie, it was worth it.

Review: Misfit - R. Holmes

Misfit Misfit by R. Holmes
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Misfit is a seriously hot read by R. Holmes. The story focuses on Misfit, a tall, dark, brooding man who is prone to getting rid of complications and who is sinfully dark and Ivy, the girl that he ends up saving but who has her own strength and meats Misfit head on. Misfit meets Ivy one night and helps her to get better and then becomes obsessed with her, allowing her some freedoms but keeping her as close as possible.

Ivy definitely brings out the vulnerability in Misfit and the two become a complete and bloody unit. Although both of them do make some mistakes along the way (which is only natural in the violent and bloody world that they live in). Both characters have been through a lot and seem to mend each other’s broken pieces.

There are a lot of secondary character’s (whose stories would be interesting) and the steamy scenes between Misfit and Ivy lave a little bit of sweat on your brow! Just saying! Overall, if you love your male characters dominant, moody and intense and your female characters sassy with a strong backbone, then this is a one for you!

Review: Distrust - G.N. Wright

Distrust Distrust by G.N. Wright
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Distrust is book one in The Hallowed Crows MC series by G.N. Wright is an MC, reverse harem pulls at your heart string type of read. The story focuses on Rebecca, a young woman who returns to her father’s club after his untimely death and back to the three men who broke her. Rebecca is a broken character who is holding secrets to keep people safe (not that they know that) From the start, Rebecca is thrown back into the MC world and into the centre of Ezra, Aiden and Killian’s revenge against her (you’re going to have to read it to figure out where everyone stands). At times the men can be cutting and don’t give Rebecca a chance to explain why she is the way she is, but just keep throwing accusations at her (which at times are pretty rough, when you the reader know what’s going on).

There are times when you feel like no one has Rebecca’s back, everyone has made up their mind about who and what she is without giving her a chance to explain. I definitely think things are going to get real when all of the cards fall in the next book in the series. Yet through the whole story, Rebecca keeps her head high because how can you break something that is already broken?

There are some scenes in this book which may be triggering for some readers and some parts of the book that are difficult to read. You do hope that the men get their fingers out of their butts and start thinking with their big brains (just saying). There is also a huge cliff-hanger at the end which is going to make you want to get the next book and binge-read!

Review: Fallen Royal - Rachel Van Dyken

Fallen Royal Fallen Royal by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Fallen Royal is part of the Mafia Royal series by Rachel Van Dyken and boy is it an intense read. The story focuses on the characters Maksim Sinacore and Izzy Abandonato and holey-moley there is a lot going on in this book. Izzy is such a strong character, and she puts up a lot from Maksim, even though he seems to have the best of intentions, but the worst follow through. Maksim just loves Izzy and is willing to do anything for her, even sacrificing himself for her and the ‘family’.

There are moments of pure heartbreak in this book as well as some funny, snarky moment. It is different from previous books in the sense that Maksim and Izzy already have an established relationship with lots of drama in it and it isn’t your typical friends to lovers’ books either as there is just so much going on. (No spoilers here).

You may need to read the previous books to understand who everyone is and their roles as well as some information on a previous backstory which is important to Maksim’s own story. Overall, a good read with some really different and sometimes challenging elements.

Review: Inked Kingdom - Carrie Ann Ryan

Inked Kingdom Inked Kingdom by Carrie Ann Ryan
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Inked Kingdom by Carrie Ann Ryan is part of the Underworld Kings series and is a quick read novella. The story focuses on Stone and Sarina. Stone is part of the Kingdom and under the rule of the King…until he isn’t, and he leaves the life (albeit violently) and goes to find his true love Sarina, who escaped the Kingdom many years ago and is setting up her new life. But leaving the Kingdom and the King isn’t easy and there are forces at work that are going to make sure that Stone and Sarina know that they can never escape and are always being watched.

This is a hang onto the edge of your seat romance as we try and figure out who the King and the Kingdom are and what power they hold over both Sarina and Stone. We also have the redeveloping relationship with both of the main characters. It’s not a pickup where they left off as they have a lot of history between them, but Stone wants to be a better man and feels like he can only be that when he is with Sarina.

Sarina’s own story is tragic after the death of both her father and brother at the hands of the King. Although she is continuously looking over her shoulder, she has started to build a new life for herself and becomes stronger. And although she hasn’t forgotten Stone, she does understand why he made the choices he made.

There is an intense relationship between Sarina and Stone and was a delightfully quick read with suspense, tension, redemption and steam which made it a great read. Also, characters from previous Montgomery books pop their heads in to say hello and we’re also left with some unanswered questions to what is going to be a great series.

Praise:

“I love a good MC series and I can tell this book is the start of an AMAZING series to come! I love the way an MC is about brotherhood and family and doing whatever it takes to protect that

family. This book covers all that and has an amazing love story as an added bonus ❤️ If you like MC books then this one will ROCK YOUR WORLD!”--chihuahuamomdivers

Completely addictive page-turner!

So, it's not often that I can finish a full-length book in 1 day anymore due to kids needing to be fed, the typical stay-at-home mom work to be done, and so forth ....but holy smokes! Once I started reading this morning I could not stop! I freaking loved this book so much. Kade "Gunner" and Sadie were smoking hot together with instant sparks flying. Their story was very emotional, made me tear up, and everything, but everything they go through makes you cheer for them more. This is a definite must-read!! I can't wait for book 2!”--Amazon reviewer
