Review: Savage Beginnings - J.L. Beck & C. Hallman

Savage Beginnings Savage Beginnings by J.L. Beck
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Another great read from the writing duo: J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. The book focuses on the characters Elena and Julian. Elena is trapped in a cage by her father and used as a pawn to cover his debts where she is given to Julian whose ultimate goal is revenge on Elena’s father and to do that, he is going to use Elena how he sees fit until he breaks her.

This book has a lot of twist and turns as you see the relationship between Elena and Julian develop. It did take me a little while to warm up to Elena as a character, mainly due to the fact that it took a while for her to show us her spine and although she was manipulated by both her father and Julian, she wasn’t going to give up without a fight.

Julian is kind of a dark horse throughout the story and you only get to see his bigger picture as more tid-bits of his life are dropped for you to piece together. He isn’t as cruel to Elena as you think he is going to be in the beginning and you can definitely see when his feelings for her start to change, even when he is still thinking of revenge.

This book has a lot going on in it, not only do you have the developing relationship between the two characters, but you also have the mafia background story and how everyone ended up on the chess board. There is betrayal, passion, violence and lies and it is all wrapped up in the story that becomes Elena and Julian.

A must read for all mafia fans and for fans of the fabulous writing duo of J.L. Beck and C. Hallman.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review.
