My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight is a standalone, red hot mafia/reverse-harem read and is a definite must read of 2020! The story focuses on the kick-butt character of Roxy, who is sassy, strong, dark, dangerous and completely crazy. She has owned her own bar for a number of years but due to her abusive and absent father has now been caught in the web of the ‘Vipers’ but who is the spider and who is the fly?
The Vipers are made up of four individual men: Ryker – their controlled leader who seems to be a volcano waiting to explode. Diesel who is bat sh*t crazy and doesn’t even hide it well. He is the torturer of the group and likes nothing more than cutting up or burning his enemies. Kenzie, the consummate gentleman until you cross him, yet takes Roxy under his demented wing and Garrett the most damaged and scarred of the bunch, waiting in the wings whilst keeping a close eye on Roxy. Individually these men are lethal but together and added into the mix, Roxy, they are pure danger.
This story is intense as it is complex and weaves all of the characters stories together. The writing is fast paced as you follow Roxy’s journey through being held by these guys to becoming the Queen of the group. Interwoven in these stories are the backstories of each character so that you understand why they are the way they are and how all of them stand on the precipice of control. The dialogue that Roxy has with each ‘brother’ was wonderful to read and she certainly doesn’t take any crap from them.
Saying that though… this book may not be for everyone as it is dark, gritty and raw with some difficult scenes that others might find challenging. But for others, you’re going to love this book. Be warned that it is a rather long book but it doesn’t feel that way as you become so immersed in the story and the characters that it kind of leaves you wanting more. This is my first foray into the mind of K.A. Knight and I have to say that if this is only a glimpse into her writing, then she now has a new fan and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. This has to be one of the best dark reads I have read in a long time!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
