Review: Dead Draw - Layla Reyne

Dead Draw Dead Draw by Layla Reyne
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Dead Draw by Layla Reyne is book one in the Perfect Play series and falls into the slow burn suspense category. Special Emmitt Marshall made a mistake, Special Agent Levi Bishop’s operation, it may have been unintentional, but it does have consequences. To try and make things better, he proposes a plan to Levi, which will not only help him financially but also emotionally to whilst they both try and bring down the bad guy.

I really enjoyed reading about Emmitt and Levi, they both have hearts of gold and wear them on their sleeves. Both are vulnerable and that can be seen in their interactions with each other as they have a will they/won’t they relationship. Levi is still mourning the death of his beloved wife and is balancing being a working man, with a teenage son and bills which are crippling him. He is open to what Emmitt has to offer and he isn’t hard on the eyes either. Emmitt is also kind, funny and likes pending time with Levi and his son but knows that he is always going to play second best when it comes to relationships as he becomes too invested. There is definitely a unique dynamic between the two as we get to know them better, not only on a professional level but also an emotional, personal level too.

This book is definitely a slow burn romance, but it does heat up between the two pretty quickly and keeps a steady simmer throughout the whole book. There are some wonderful family moments between Levi, Emmitt and Levi’s son which is really sweet, and I loved the passion that Emmitt plays chess with Levi’s son.

There is also the FBI storyline which has a lot of action and intrigue and keeps the book flowing at a fast pace. If you like your guys sweet with a side of cowboy and some serious flirting, then this is going to be the book for you. I look forward to reading the rest of this series!

BOOK BLURB

My first year at university started with a bang…literally.

I crashed into someone’s car. Even worse? It turns out that the person I blindsided is my

new housemate, Liam, second-year student and football player.

It’s hate at first sight…until it isn’t.

But even if he doesn’t hate me anymore, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s straight.

At least, I thought he was.

One night, one kiss, and everything I thought I knew turns upside down.

They say actions speak louder than words.

And his actions tell me that he wants me.

Review: Her Vengeful King - A.N. Stauber

Her Vengeful King Her Vengeful King by A.N. Stauber
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Her Vengeful King is book one in the Black Heart series by A.N. Stauber. The book focuses on the characters Haley Savino an Army Veteran and abuse survivor and Callum Murphy, heir to the Boston Irish Mafia. Cal is instantly taken by Haley when he sees her, but she is quite aloof with him and doesn’t want to get involved due to past hurts. Cal also sees that Haley has a lot of baggage and wants to get to the reasons why she protects herself so much. On the opposite side, Haley doesn’t want to get involved in the mafia and especially with another man. She has quite severe PTSD which we see throughout the book and lots of interactions and dealings with life throw her, but Cal doesn’t seem to take the hint and crawls his way under her skin.

This was quite a heart-breaking read, due to what Haley is trying to overcome. There are definitely moments of despair on both her and Cal’s part. Her because she is trying to move forward and life keeps throwing up roadblocks and for him because he can see Haley cracking, especially when another incident happens within the story which nearly breaks her completely.

Cal’s family also play an important role in the book for both Cal and Haley, it is almost as though Cal lets Haley borrow his family so that she can see what a positive family dynamic looks like. The book does handle some very difficult subjects and may have some triggers for some readers. Overall, a really good, emotional read!

New Release: Her Ruthless Warrior - R.G. Angel

HER RUTHLESS WARRIOR

By: R.G. Angel

NEW RELEASE

The line between redemption and damnation is razor thin—and once it’s crossed, there’s no going back…

Violet

Nothing wrecks an already bad day faster than almost getting hit by a car.

But then he rescued me.

My mysterious, sexy savior wore danger as easily as he wore his black-on-black clothes. And still, I wasn’t afraid of him.

I should’ve been.

Because after one misunderstanding, the man I thought would love me forever showed me just how ruthless and cold he really is.

I trusted him with my heart once and it broke me. I can’t afford to make that mistake again…

 Hoka

She was my ikigai—my life purpose.

Loving her was inevitable.

But I’m king of the Japanese mafia. Softness like hers doesn’t exist in my world.

Maybe that’s why it was so easy for me to believe she betrayed me. Why I burned us to the ground.

Now that I know the truth, I’ll do anything to get her back.

I know a good man would let her go.

But I’m not a good man…

Review: Her Ruthless Warrior - R.G. Angel

Her Ruthless Warrior Her Ruthless Warrior by R.G. Angel
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars

Her Ruthless Warrior by R.G. Angel is book one in The Syndicate series by L.G. Angel and boy is it a fast-paced, emotional book. The story focuses on Violet, a young woman who is having a bad day, not only losing her job but also finding out her boyfriend is a cheating jerk. When going to leave, she finds herself in an accident and at the centre of attention of a mysterious and sexy saviour, Hoka.

Hoka is a businessman and king of the Japanese Mafia, he doesn’t have time for someone as innocent as Violet, but he just can’t seem to stay away. Swept up in instant feelings, their romance is instantaneous and Hoka does everything he can to help Violet. But, when Hoka believes that Violet has betrayed him, his sense of justice is strong, and he destroys the love of his life in the most brutal way. It is only when the truth comes to light that he finds out how badly he has destroyed her and what he needs to do to make everything right.

This book pulled at the heartstrings. Violet was such a lovely character who didn’t deserve what happened to her. The change in her was devastating but you understood why she needed to protect herself after the way Hoka treated her. Hoka was also a wonderfully written character. We get to delve into his background and are immersed in the Japanese culture (which was wonderful). We also see his vulnerability when he realises that he may not get Violet back after the way he treated her.

This book is definitely going to make you cry when it comes to certain issues which are brought up. It is wonderfully written, and you really get to understand and feel where the characters are coming from, even if you don’t agree with how they have done things. Overall, this was a wonderful book filled with love, drama, angst and some sexy scenes which are going to keep you turning the pages and wanting more in this series!

Review: Unforgiven - Rebecca Zanetti

Unforgiven Unforgiven by Rebecca Zanetti
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Unforgiven by Rebecca Zanetti is book 5 in the Deep Ops series and again is another page turner from a one click author! The book centres on Jethro and Gemma. Gemma is on the run from a deadly stalker which takes her to working at a new job as a professor at D.C. University. There she meets Jethro who also works at the University but who is suspicious of the aloof Gemma from the get-go. Both of them are keeping secrets with lots of things the are hiding, but soon a slow starting friendship becomes more, even when both of them are flung into danger, and they figure out that the danger is closer to home than they think!

This was another fast paced read with lots of suspense and twist and turns which are going to keep you on the edge of your seat! Two wonderful characters which work really well together. I can’t wait to read more from this series and get to know some of the other characters!

Review: Infinite Bond - L. Rose

Infinite Bond Infinite Bond by L. Rose
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Infinite Bond by L. Rose is a standalone reverse harem/paranormal romance. The story focuses on Micah, a young man who has had a rough time of it and seems to be paying for the sins of his mother whilst trying to keep his head above water. He comes into powers which he can’t control and is immersed into a new world of paranormal at a new school which will help him grow his strength and powers. He is thrown together with Hyde, Zeke and Cade, his new roommates and three men who all have different powers, responsibilities and feelings for one another, both platonic and romantic. When Micah is thrown into the mix, they find out that he is more important and special to them, then they first thought and not everyone is happy about it.

This is a really good story with a great story line and some red-hot chemistry between characters. Micah is so downtrodden to begin with, but with the nurturing and love that his men show him, he slowly starts to blossom and becomes a powerful, protective young man. I also loved that Hyde, Zeke and Cade were all different form one another. I especially liked the character of Hyde who was morose and protective of Micah and although we don’t delve to far into his backstory, we do get to know why he is the way he is.

The story is told from all characters POV which really adds to us getting to know them individually and then as a group. The paranormal elements of the story are really good, with enough action and drama to keep you turning the pages. Sexy scenes are hot between all of the characters, with a slow burn element as the men get to know Micah better and their relationship develops into something more. Overall, a really good, enjoyable read.

Review: The Hallows Boys - Rosie Alice

The Hallows Boys The Hallows Boys by Rosie Alice
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Hallows Boys is book one in the Dark Duet by Rosie Alice, and boy is this a steamy read! The book tells the story about Sage, a young girl who has just lost her parents and is shuttled away to live with her grandmother in a place called Blackmore, a town with a lot of secrets. There she meets the Hallows Boys: Kaiden, Beckham and Vincent. Young men who rule to roost and are ready to play the ultimate game of control with Sage.

The story is full of secrets, omissions, secrets societies and lots and lots of sexy times! There are a lot of twist and turns in the story as Sage becomes more embroiled with the Hallows boys and their secrets. At times, they can be sweet (Beckham) and at times domineering and cruel (Kaiden) and there is a lot going on in the background. As it is a duet we are left with a lot of unanswered questions, not only about Sage’s background, but also where the boys fit into it. Yes, there is a lot of focus on tradition and small town secrets, but the book also focuses on Sage and her mental health, which is done really well and doesn’t give the story a happily ever after vibe but a more realistic view of what life can be like.

There is a lot of sexy scenes in this book, with a heavy focus on kinks. Read the trigger warnings before you go in as this book isn’t going to be for everyone! The characters are well written and unique to each other. I really enjoyed the relationship that Sage has with all three of the boys, who all have their own personalities and feelings about Sage and what she is doing in Blackmore. Overall, a really great, suspenseful dark romance.
