Take a card.
Owe him a favor.
I promise, you'll regret it.
IOU, a sexy, new adult standalone from Kristy Marie is coming soon!

Blurb:
It’s official.
I, Ainsley James, am crazy.
Desperate and crazy.
It’s the only explanation as to why I’m nauseous, standing outside Maverick Lexington’s door.
I mean, it’s possible the stories about his deck of playing cards—with the words IOU scrawled across the back—are just rumors of the ruthless quid pro quo deals he barters.
But the flutters in my stomach know better.
Maverick is as cold as they come.
But, I need one of those cards.
I NEED to owe Maverick Lexington a favor…
Whatever the terms, I’m willing to pay.
Because, at this point, I have nothing left to lose.

EXCERPT:
I step back just as the door swings open with force, and a rock hard body fills up the empty space. My gaze starts at the top, noting the firm grip he has on the molding. The muscles strain against his taut skin, flexing as he leans forward, cocking his head to the side. His face—

Oh shit.

This is bad—really, really bad.

“Oh no.”

His scowl curves up into a lazy grin.

“Waitress,” he purrs. His voice has this melody of a luring song— one meant to pull you in and destroy your heart in a matter of seconds.

It doesn’t affect me, though.

“Dick at table forty-three, the princess who needed his steak warmed.”

Slap me with a stupid sticker because I have lost my damn mind. Why in the hell did I just say that? Yes, he was the rude-ass who insisted I warm up his food, and yes, he’s the one I dumped said food on, but that was yesterday, and I have moved on. Hopefully, so has he.

“Dick, huh?” He drops one of his massive arms and rubs a spot just above—ah damn, his nipple is pierced. Not to mention the whole right side of his ribs are covered in a massive tribal tattoo. Even on his left, a smaller tattoo wraps from his back and ends on his stomach, teasing me to gaze longingly at the ridiculous set of six-pack abs between them.

Why is life not fair?

I drag in a deep breath and try to let any animosity of yesterday go. “Can we start over?”

That lazy grin of his falls in an instant. “No.”

No. Okay. Well, that’s not good.

Sighing, I watch as his body goes rigid, and his arm goes back to the top of the door frame, blocking any view behind him. His icy blue eyes stare back at me unyielding and hard, not the same guy that grinned when he first saw me. “I’m sorry about last night.” Hopefully, my sincerity will soften him.

“What can I do for you?”

Okay, so we’re going with a hard no on being softened.

With no hint of emotion, other than the apparent tone of boredom, one can surmise that Maverick will not be bought with sweetness and apologies. I’m going with plan B, which I’m making up as I go.

“Are you Maverick?” I could have said that a little stronger and without the slight tremor.

He drops his hands and reaches into his back pocket, producing a handful of playing cards. Oh no. I’m not prepared for it to get real this fast. What if those two idiots in class were right? What if I’m never the same after this?

“How much is it worth to you?” He drawls, producing a marker.

About the Author:

A self-proclaimed reader enthusiast, Kristy started her writing journey back in 2009, reading and writing when her daughter was napping. Establishing her place in Corporate America (because something had to pay the bills), writing became her dirty, late-night secret.

After eight long years, she released her debut novel, Commander in Briefs. It was a long road, but she can honestly say, the road less traveled had the most beautiful sights.

The only thing Kristy Marie loves as much as reading and writing is sports! Especially those that require muscles and a nice ass. Her favorite is, and always will be, baseball. She's such a fan, that she even married her small town's high school's centerfielder where they still live with their three badass kids.

Review: IOU - Kristy Marie

IOU IOU by Kristy Marie
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

IOU by Kristy Marie is a standalone novel. It focuses on the characters Ainsley James and Maverick Lexington. Ainsley is a hot mess, having walked in on her boyfriend and room mate swapping spit and nearly setting her apartment on fire, she is banished from where she lives and is looking for somewhere to stay that isn’t her car or at the local fire station. Then she hears a rumour about the allusive and brooding Maverick Lexington, a man who is known for taking markers and making you pay for them when you least expect it…no questions asked. Maverick is an enigma and seems to have many balls in the air. A brooding alpha hero, he takes Ainsley under his wing, albeit reluctantly and it seems, let her take over his life with her mad ways and seal stuffed toy collection. Along the way the two seem to develop a pseudo-friendship which turns into more unexpectedly and without the help of the IOU’s. This was a laugh out loud type of book. Ainsley is hilarious in the dilemma’s that she seems to get herself into, but is a sensitive soul at heart. She gets to the bottom of Maverick rather quickly and understands why he is the way he is and why he has the types of relationships he has. The banter between the two was awesome and the slow burn of their relationship kept you turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. There is a lot going on in this book emotionally which really makes you invested in the characters. Secondary characters such as ‘Boss’ and Maverick’s grandpa are brilliant and add another element to the story and everyone seems to have their own little bit of story-line. I also love that Ainsley just doesn’t care what other people think and she marches to her own beat. The ending was beautifully written and I really enjoyed reading the little bit at the end where we see the characters a little further on in their relationship. A great, laugh out loud, sweet and steamy book. ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊

It hurts to look at you.
One, two, three, four, five . . . the lyrics to the hell inside your OCD head.
Not alive, not dead. In chains.
You’re broken, Amy. I did this. Can’t undo that.
Six years ago, I played a cruel joke on you in front of the whole school. The girl who made a happiness machine to put her happy inside of me. And I just ripped your heart out.
Now, I’m back to fix what I broke. I’m a psychologist, Amy. I can give you back the happiness I stole....

It’s all a lie. I’m not a doctor.
So what. She doesn’t get a choice.
So what if I buy the Victorian estate she lives in, blackmail her into fake therapy sessions.
So what if I get her addicted to my body like a painkiller, make her wish me dead.
I’m not the hero. I’m the monster. The orphan boy gone bad. Cursed, everything broken.
So what, when I discover a dark secret that makes her every inch off-limits, I don’t keep my hands off her.
Her bones are made from emeralds, she’s that precious.
I won’t stop chasing her until she’s mine.

But Amy is a pretty little liar, too. Her lie is the deadliest of them all.
Only one of us is telling the truth.
So bloody what. Nobody’s gonna believe her over me.

It’s her word . . .
     . . . against MINE.

You’re in a bad place, Amy, where the monsters go. But it’s only in the bad places . . . I can get to you.

Disclaimer: No cheating — this alpha-hole keeps it in his pants.

Review: The Institute - Various Authors

The Institute The Institute by Dani RenΓ©
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

The Institute is a collection of deliciously dark reads by 6 amazing authors: Dani Rene, Anna Edwards, India R. Adams, Jennifer Bene, Murphy Wallace and Sian B. Claven. Each story is a standalone but all set in an institute to help those with ‘issues’. The stories focus on almost demented heroines, who are smart, dark, jaded by the system but who have backbones of steel when faced with adversity. Add into the mix is some dark and deadly characters and you are left guessing about who should be locked up!

Each story weaves a dark and sensual story which leaves you gripping the edge of your seat. There are some unusual methods to helping these women as well as some unusual stories of heartbreak, darkness and intrigue mixed into an almost Gothic like setting. This was a really enjoyable anthology to read and has left me wanting to read more by all of the authors.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊

Review: Liarholic - Kingsley Ash

Liarholic Liarholic by Kingsley Ash
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Liarholic by Kingsley Ash is a roller-coaster, heart-pounding ride of a book. The story focuses on Amy and Shepard, like two pieces of a puzzle, they knew they wanted each other from an early age, but Shepard betrays Amy in the most brutal way as a teen and it seems that from that point onward, both of their lives spiral out of control with secrets, obsessions and lies.

Amy is at Swan Lake, a private clinic for those with issues. With overpowering OCD, Amy almost lives in a state of rigid routine, until one day Shepard turns up as the ‘owner’ of the building, looking for his own answers about his life, reigniting his obsession for Amy and trying to put her broken pieces together, or at least make them fit with his own.

The book really delves into the history that these two characters have together, how secrets can cause a lot of damage and how the intensity of a relationship can save two significantly broken people.

When reading this book, there were times where you can’t believe what comes out of Shepard’s mouth, it’s raw, toxic, twisted but ultimately real. He will literally do anything to have Amy, to save her, to love her and in a way that makes him a redeemable character. He may be a monster, but he is certainly her monster! His obsessiveness, sensuality and intensity pull you into the story and keeps you turning the page. You know that Amy is his other half and when you find out why she is the way she is, the secrets she has had to keep and the lies she has even had to tell herself to keep sane, it's heart-breaking.

This was a great book to read, not only do you become invested in the characters, but also invested in the story. You want to get to the bottom of the secrets; you want to know the reasons why things have happened, you want to know about other characters’ stories, no matter how tragic and uncomfortable reading it may make you. And ultimately, you want to know more about Shepard and Amy! A wonderful, intriguing, twist and turn read!
