Review: One Look - Harlow James

One Look One Look by Harlow James
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

OMG, this book hurt my soul! It is so beautifully written, you are literally there every step of the way with these characters. Jake is a baseball player making his debut into the big leagues when he looks across the field and locks eyes with Danielle and sparks instantly fly. Is it fate that Jake and Danielle are meant to end up together or just a one off thing? Well you’re going to find out in this book.

Jake and Danielle are two well written characters. Firstly, you have Jake, this hard working, sexy young man who loves baseball and is intrigued by Danielle. On the other side you have Danielle who is a baseball fanatic, living with her grandfather and younger brother whilst having everyday responsibilities. When the relationship between Jake and Danielle first stars it is really cute, but you do see the strain that the media and life in general have on them both. When tragedy strikes Danielle and she pushed Jake away it is really heartbreaking and you feel for both of these characters.

What I really loved about this book is that it was set over a matter of years and showed growth, strength and personal changes for each of the characters. Danielle is so strong in part of this book that you are literally sobbing when you read what she and her family are going through and then you have Jake who will do anything to make sure that he and Danielle are together. They are soul mates and Jake just wants Danielle to get on the same page as him, working together through all of the hard things rather than independently. The chemistry between the two characters is off the charts HOT, this is an intense, heartbreaking, need to get to the end of the book enjoyable read that you won’t put down until the final word is written.

If you haven’t read Harlow James before, this is a good place to start!

Review: Let Go - Allie Winters

Let Go Let Go by Allie Winters
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

This has to be one of the most beautiful books that I have written. Charlotte is awkward, shy, relationship shy and super smart. Having been burnt before, she isn’t looking for a relationship with anyone, but she doesn’t take on board Luke Richards, a guy who she has been secretly obsessing about in one of her Uni classes. Luke is kind, sweet, sexy and also working towards his own career goals. When these two meet, first as acquaintances, then friends you are on the sidelines watching the relationship build as Charlotte and Luke come to terms with how they fit together. But like in most love stories, it isn’t smooth sailing and due to unforeseen circumstances things have to go on the back-burner between the two for a while, but that doesn’t mean forever as we find out in the book.

This was a lovely and well written book. I really enjoyed Charlotte’s awkwardness and how sweet Luke was. At times the relationship was awkward due to communication and circumstances but it never felt too far-fetched. The story is definitely a slow burn but there are some amazingly hot scenes throughout the book that make it all worthwhile. The two characters also have really good banter which makes you smile throughout the book and just makes it an easy read.

As a first book by this author, it is definitely worth a read, especially if you like sweet, HEA books. Additional characters are interesting and I can’t wait to read about Luke’s cousin, Samantha in the next book in this series: Watch me which comes out soon.

Review: A Baby for the Bratva - Chloe Kent

A Baby for the Bratva A Baby for the Bratva by Chloe Kent
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

A baby for the Bratva stars Starla, a young woman who for the past few years has grown up in an orphanage since her mother’s death. Here she is thrust into the spotlight of the Bratva, ruled by three domineering brothers who are out for revenge and a baby…one that Starla is going to provide for them.

Chloe Kent has a tried and tested way of writing. All of her books have a female protagonist going up against three, domineering men for reasons that we don’t find out until the middle of the book. The books are steamy, sexy and pulse pounding, with some BDSM thrown in. Characters are well developed and really work together as a whole. Starla is sassy and stronger than she thinks, although there were moments at the end where she became a little bit sacrificial for me when she should have been kicking some butt. The three brothers are what you come to expect from a Chloe Kent book, they all have three different types of personalities that seems to help them work as a unit and there never seems to be any jealousy between the men who are sharing this one woman. There is a strong emphasis on the Starla getting pregnant which is quite similar to other books written by Ms. Kent and how the male characters are going to do that….hint here…there is lots of sexy time!

A really enjoyable thing about this book was that it was set in Russia, which just seems like a mystical, history laden place which comes across as quite cold . The brother’s grandmother and matriarch of the family is also a refreshing change as she is honest, personable and doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

Overall, this was a good and enjoyable read, especially if you like rough, domineering men with some hot sexy scenes.

Review: Surrender: A Lily of the Valley Novella - Evie Kent

Surrender: A Lily of the Valley Novella Surrender: A Lily of the Valley Novella by Evie Kent
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

Wow, this is an amazingly hot novella written by Evie Kent. It starts with a bang and just flows until the end. Set in the time of Gods, Goddesses and others the story takes you on a mythical journey of one woman’s sacrifice against the man who holds her body in passionate limbo but who also holds darkness against her light.

This is a very sexy, quick read. The scenes are unbelievably hot between the two characters with a sense of foreboding, forbidden desire and a dark paranormal romance. A must read for dark romance fans everywhere and I am excited to read more by this author.

Review: The Deadly Game - G. Bailey & Coralee June

The Deadly Game The Deadly Game by G. Bailey
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

This was a really enjoyable book which is a reverse harem style, paranormal romance. Once a year, the bridge between the living and the dead is open. Allowing the chances for the witches to compete in the Deadly Games, this allows them to speak with the dead for one night. This book focuses on Mila (a human) and three male witches; Luca, Bass and Matt. Mila is caught outside at night when the witch trials begin and she is taken by the male coven to help them in their quest to speak to their dead coven brother. But not all is what it seems and through trials and tribulations, Mila realises that she must bond with the brothers in order to win the deadly games.

This was a really fast paced book and a real page turner. The characters are all really great and unique and I liked that Mila was a strong female character and knew what she wanted. The three brothers are also all uniquely different and there are some really steamy as well as cute scenes between Mila and the boys individually as well as in a group.

The witch element of the book is really interesting and shows witches in the traditional sense i.e. they can fly, they live in covens etc. There is also a lot of attention to detail in regards to the trials and characters that pop up in them such as the Golden Lady. It would have been nice to see where this book would have gone if it had of been longer. Overall, an enjoyable read and I will definitely be looking at both of these authors together and individually.
